  • I MISS SRV

  • good

  • Seen Him Twice before he Died. Just Lucky I guess!

Seen him in 89 90 He Was Clean!

  • Seen Him Twice before he Died. Just Lucky I guess!

  • even youtube doesn't give a shit about dlislikes ...

  • 7:56 why are his fingers so black?

  • @huyiy its probably from the paint of the frets of the guitar ... that happens to me sometimes , but they never got that black haha

  • @huyiy Maybe because he glueed his fingers ?

  • @huyiy SRV plays with 13 / 56 on his guitar, and concert after concert, he hurts his fingers. Bluesman often use the superglue to strengthen their horn, i think it's something like that in this video.

  • @huyiy because of the graphite grease he used for lubricating the nut and the saddles.

  • Comment removed

  • @tony9L9L are you totally nuts? I was saying there's a graphite and grease lubricant developed by his guitar tech, it saves the strings from breaking and that stained his fingers black because of the graphite. Saddle means guitar bridge saddle and nut means guitar neck nut where the strings are laying. Sure enough, you are not familiar with guitars man.

  • Comment removed

  • @tony9L9L very funny. whatever.

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder if he asked the bass player to dress up like Billy Cox?

  • @TommyKJr Dont waste your time with Tony9l9l. I had problems with him about 10-12 months ago. He just "hates" SRV. What a nutjob.

  • @huyiy See Danny Gatton, brilliant guitarist in his own right. His fingers get the same as that too. That immense fretwork!

  • this was at the end of his drinkin and drugin days so if ya notice he's a little sluggish you know why.

  • srv was the best

  • STEVIE RAY "KING" VAUGHAN!!!

  • SRV needs his own style.... play ahead of the beat.!

  • 6:15 ahahah i love him. he keeps the "artist pass" picked on his jeans whe he's playing! xD

    lovable man

  • @bluesfun you have to, even wehn you see videos of AC/DC backstage, they wear passes.

you know there will always be some idiot saying 'i can't let you in without a pass"

  • Wow. Listening stevie, tranquil, drinkin something... Something like a dream... Amazing.

  • baked or straight, that man played the shit out of his guitar.

  • that festival would've been my only chance to see SRV in my country but I wasn't born until '92 :(

  • He's dressed in white and blue. Those are the colors of a Finnish flac :)

  • this is a since it must be a god

  • Speaking of guitars who has SRV's Strat called one?

  • @surfstomp afaik its owned now by his brother and locked up in a vault. (imo SRV should have his own museum with this pride&joy for everyone to see :( )

  • @foxgirl38 all his clothing would make a good museum. He had a great sense of style

  • @surfstomp His brother Jimmy Lee Vaughan has the guitar , She was called Number One , #1 , or His First Wife

  • kenny was here

  • man--- he could play, not another one like him, who do you know that could wear hat,s like stevie , he was just great. miss you so much.

  • SO missed Sweet ANGEL ♥ You Stevie, Heaven Sure has some Great Blues Players

  • I absolutely hate to see him like this. I won't watch again... too heart breaking. Love the later "cleaner" version.

  • @cookieva Yeah, it was few weeks before breakdown.

  • i miss you lynn, i love you now an forever, kenny

  • el mejor de todos los tiempos el es el mas grande si señor el mas grande

  • You can tell this was SRV before he cleaned up. He is hiding at this point.. It should stand as an example of the edge an addiction takes away from a person, as they attempt to 'dime' the controls and play on, over the numbness (aka fingers)... oblivious to the arrows sticking out of them. he was both lucky and unlucky... I would have been honored to have met the man who crossed through to the other side, before his untimely death.

  • this must have been close to the time of charley's death, you can see it in stevie's face.

  • SRV should get more recognition for his vocals, especially singing this song, great vocals, fits in with a lot of great soul singers IMO.

  • HYVÄ SUOMI SAATANA

  • @ilmanmuutajamuutilma HAHHAHAHAHA!

  • never fails to make me feel better..... again. Thanks Stevie

  • I love this song to death. I just listened to the Afternoon show rendition of this and there is so much more emotion in this one the in that one. Nevertheless, Stevie gave it his all every single night.

  • @soultaker1083

Fully agree. The emotion here is amazing. I keep coming back to this version and listen it over and over again and I always find something new that amazes me. Best rendition of Life Without You ever. Stevie is dearly missed.

  • This never fails to put a smile on my face

  • inspire.....

  • @JRBUDS Charley Wirz. A guitar tech of his from the early 80s. He built the guitar that Stevie is playing on there. Its called Charley, in homage to its maker, Charley Wirz. It doesn't really sound like a could be for a guy but when you really think about it, does it matter if its a guy or a girl? Its a beautiful song so interpret it like that right?

  • who did he lose to ins[ire this song. it is obviously crying? Anyone?

  • this is the best i can find. this one seems to never get old. the skill is such a gift... thanks SRV... We miss YOU.

  • At 7:56 you can see the calluses of his fingers being peeled by playing so hard.I realized that,if you want to imitate SRV(if you can), you have to attack the strings with as much force as you can with both left and right hand.A lot of his sound comes from the attack of the the right hand with the guitar pick. You have to hit the strings as hard as you can. With your left hand you have to be able to bend the strings like a son of a bitch(even with your index finger).Watch out for tendonitis.

  • this is the best version of this song. as a big fan of SRV i have to say i dont like this particular song. this is what he plays when he is feeling sad and depressed.

  • anyone notice how John Mayer's singing sounds exactly like Stevie's does in this video?

  • God's way of showing off... SRV. The greatest to ever pick up and play a guitar!!!!

  • @alaynastars That's a PERFECT way to put it. I agree fully.

  • @alaynastars I would say my son is

  • Who would dislike this?

  • Great rendition. He always did sound smooth whilst on drugs.

  • life is good

  • Love you Mr. Vaughan

  • big f*n smile

  • big f*n smile

  • makes you want to bawl...perfection

  • skill, skill. He simply thinks and beauty flows.....compare Stevie Rv to anyone, not even slash!..... l

  • @JRBUDS slash is fucking terrible

  • The best ever!RIP SRV!

  • Again Fantastic!

  • Best version ever 5/5*****

  • Wow..anyone notice he is playing with a solid Marshall wall...I'm not sure that I've seen another video with him having so many Marshalls and extreme lack of Fenders...But, this video just goes to show how his sound was more in his skill and style then his gear. Definitely 'the man' in his own right!!

  • You got the wrong date. Stevie did two gigs in Pori on thursday 11/7/1985.

  • does anybody know what it is called when you have those golden disc things down the outside seam of your trousers/pants that he is wearing here?

  • Those are called conchos, a Vaquero (Spanish-culture Cowboy) affectation, as far as I know they're just for lookin' flash for the Ladies.

They shine in the sun when you're on horseback

(and were generally made of Silver, so you could sell them if you went bust).

Pretty sure whoever dressed Ol' Stevie was doing a little blow herself!

  • cheers buddy, ive been trying to find out what those are called for ages!

  • 6:40-7:10

he does from the fastest he can play, to about the slowest quite seamlessly!

  • pause it just after he has his hand on the mic and then look at his thumb then take it off pause then look peace

  • ive watched this vid alot its one of my very favorites stevie at his best i dont care what kind of stuff he was on its some of his best live work. as for the black on his fingers i to at one time wondered what it was but i think its a trick of the camera if you look at the split sec when he brings his hand up, you can see that theres very little black on his finger just a very very small amount. i know my comment doesnt mean anything in the big picture of thing. peace out

  • Thanks for that Skyline!

  • Pause the video at 7:56, can anyone tell me what's the black stuff on his fingers?

  • It's the strings. When you play awhile the coating on the string wears off and the sweat from your figures will cause the strings to rust or oxidize on your fingers. That happens when you play on worn out strings for at least an hour or so.

  • Worn out strings? I keep learning. With my extremely limited knowledge on guitar pl;aying, i always thought that strings are finished when they go: "SNAP" ;-)

  • Yea, strings get stretched out and don't hold a tune if you keep them for awhile. On the underside of the strings you can feel where it makes contact to the frets, and if it gets bad enough the strings will break. So when that starts to happen you change them, new strings sound better and always play better.

  • I'd bet it's graphite powder. He used really heavy string guages (I've heard as heavy as .015s for the high E), so slippery graphite would allow him to move faster with less damage. I got some on my hands from a snap-line a few weeks ago and it looked exactly like that.

They didn't even have coated strings back then. As hard as he played he surely had them changed them every day.

One other possibility is Super Glue, it's a quick fix for torn up fingers and attracts soils.

    All speculation.

  • itll just be the metal residue from the strings, when you play loads and loads it just coats your fingers, especially if they are new strings

  • Yeah yeah i agree, i think your close on that one, cause i play with 13's, exactly what you said happens. I have never gotten quite that much build up on my fingers. You have to really be pressing down hard and grinding those frets to get that much in one playing season. Just goes to show how hard he really played. Really put his all into every note!

  • @Hippyy123 pfft 13's.. when i went to guitar center they were like ughh, we dont have those.. i was like your fricken website said you had some.. i like to get the bottom 3 heavy and the top 3 medium. idk.

  • Yeah i had the exact same problem, go to the web site, they say their in stock, i even phoned, they said they had them. i went to the store, they don't have any 13s. I asked to order some, they told me i would get the order in 1 week, I've been waiting 3 weeks now for my order. So finally i said screw it, now what i do is i buy D'Addario 7 string electric guitar strings. The gauges is : 10,13,17,26,36,46,59. Take out the small 10 out of the pack and their the same thing, for the same price.

  • wow the sustain he got off that bad boy was incredible! love this solo.. more freeform sounding but you can totaly tell he wasnt sober. he kind of forgot the lyrics in the bigining a little.

  • avanti 1000 anni

  • Marshall?!?! and friggin' combos at that... what gives?

  • they'are not that bad..really.. when they aren't Broken!!

  • it's hard not to favorite like every SRV vid I watch haha :)

  • @dr05guitar I was just thinking the same :D

  • no hes sober and also this quality is amazing phenominal, and oh yeah judgeing by his beard combo this is around the time he cleaned up

  • its 1985 bud.. this is unfortunately before he cleaned up.

  • Judging by the date given RIGHT in the description, you can plainly see it was right before his inevitable drug crash.

  • Stevie had a whole year and about 3 or 4 months before he finally had to go to rehab

  • I thought that as soon as I saw this, he looks kinda drugged up or out of it a little.

  • Well i think this was pretty much the height of his drug addiction.

  • wrong

  • you need black fingers to play the blues.. stevie knew it, hence, black fingers

  • cult!

    cult!

    always

  • i belive the black on his hands came from the strings also. there is a spray that some players spray on the neck so your hand slides easyer and it may contain grafite via the black

  • and i belive that its also the dust from the strings when you press lot and play lot

  • this has got to be the best version of this song he ever played amazing

    thanks for posting

  • agreed

  • hes so fucked up rite here lol but plays amazing

  • 7:48 made me sad ):

  • I watch this at least once a day, and IMO, it's the best version of any song SRV ever played. The joy in his face around the 6:33 mark cannot be explained in words, and I revel in it everytime I watch.

  • White Hendrix

  • Yeah...

    Stevie's hispanic

  • Wrong!!!

  • Yeah, sure, look it up.

He's listed as one of the most influential hispanic icons.

My mom also knew him and his family growing up in Oak Cliff.

  • @wisesatyr72 so many lightyears beyond hendrix

  • @shitfeast I won't say lightyears, SRV gives me much more mood when I listen to him than Hendrix, but Hendrix is the best. Just the feeling, SRV had plenty of it, he might be the best blues player that ever walked on this earth ... RIP, 20 years ago, the music died with you... again :(

  • @mavina59 yeah, I would say Hendrix is better just for the sheer fact that he got the ball rolling. but as far as pure talent goes, I think SRV has just a tad bit more. both great, so it really doesn't matter I guess, we're still less two great guitarist, in an abundant sea of carbon copy pop stars.

  • @wisesatyr72 so let's find the Asian one

  • @road2ruins We need a Asian one..if I didnt have hyper palmer hydrosis

  • his face at 6:33 makes me smile so much hahaha I love SRV and this song, one talented man taken too soon. R.I.P. SRV

  • At 6:33 I believe he discovered something new on the guitar at least for that song and moment, notice how he turned to show Chris and Tommy what he was doing, Tommy got a kick out of it, then they followed him out of it.

  • they got out of time for a second and the drummer had to fill to get the time back, thats why stevie was laughin

  • haven't seen this one before. but, i do think it was on this tour in europe when he had a breakdown and entered rehab back in the states.

  • ... but his singing and playing is filled with feeling. GREAT *****

  • The Man,even has the voice to go with the guitar.

  • Woahhhhhh...this vid just blew my mind! Never seen it before.

  • I lived in South Austin in 1982 and saw Stevie many times. I saw him high and later, saw him clean and sober. Technically, I guess he played better sober. But, there was something about being there watching him play when he was high. I was high. Hell, everyone was high.

You can't really compare the two Stevie's. Stevie High was soulfull...guteral even beautiful.

Stevie clean was pure bright light and brilliance. Cant say which I liked better.

  • I have to agree with you. This footage is Stevie playing almost on instinct. I loved his style either way.

  • he certainly looks drugged out more then in 82 videos i have seen

  • for me there are two singers in this song stevie and his guitar and that is all there is to it. (All his emotion straight into playing)

  • there stands the greatest man that ever walked this earth rip srv

  • Great version of this song! Great Stevie as allways.

  • Great musicians reach a level if they play shit ppl dream of playing like that in their dream.Sober or not SRV gives more than 100 when ever he play.

    R.I.P Texas Voodoo.

  • Buddy Guy said, Stevie would always not give 99% into it. He would give 120% in every one of his performances.

  • he was that dedicated to music he even bled to give a good performance sheer legend

  • this is great but i think he played way better when we was sober

  • I like it both way (and before rehab and after rehab), any Stevie is good for me! I love it all!

  • hm..on most records and live acts he wasn't sober, he just stopped drugs approximetly a short time before the helicopter crash...his ritual when he got up was to take simultanetly some cocaine an whiskey as far as i know...

  • You're mostly right. Stevie was on drugs and alcohol until the end of 86. Then from November of 1986 until August 27, 1990 he was clean and sober

  • awesome stuff!...but his performance at the americn caravan is twice as gud. check it out if u aint seen it!!!

  • The one in New Orleans in 1988 is ten times better than that one IMO. Stevie's clean and his playing is just blazing hot

  • No way man, there is something real special about this performance, may be my favorite SRV video on youtube. Must have watched it 500 times.

  • he's all drugged out.

the videos is only a couple months before he got sober

  • what can u say to this? words are not nearly enough

  • Wow is that his fingers bleeding?

  • Please don't mention that asshole Mayer on this amazing, mindblowing video of the guitar god, legend and one and only, SRV!!!

  • went through a lot of comments on this video and noticed the John Mayer haters.... I'll agree that SRV is the best guitarist that ever lived, but Mayer is a damn good guitar player. If all you have heard is his shit on the radio then please open your ears to his music. You'll discover a great guitar player and artist. There is a reason why Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, B.B King, and all the other greats that are still living are calling him a legend in the making.

  • I don't want to judge the guy on a SRV video, but is it really necessary to give all that attention to someone who in no way whatsoever influenced SRV or had to do with SRV? I've heard some covers he did of SRV, and I have to say that they weren't very good at all. You don't go to a funeral and brag about the deceased's friend.

  • R I P S R V

  • Look enough about the injured strings crap. Not true. It is called oxidation.

Want the quickest way to do the same. Find a piece of aluminum, sand it with sandpaper, then rub your finger tips on them for 20 minutes. They will look just like his. Stevie at times was known to use Phosphor Bronze strings that would create the black fingers faster then the experiment above.

  • Reason #1 why I hate any so called "band" that has formed in the last 16 years!

  • even fucked up he could play the shit out of that guitar.

  • Totally, that's why Stevie is the best ever!

  • My roommates cousin saw this particular gig.. I wasn't born in another two years! Damn.

  • I saw him at the Opera house in Boston, 3/85. He wore a long Hendrix style robe & same hat, but I don't remember there being a keyboardist yet. I saw him 10+ times and that was the best show of all. They closed w 3rd Stone.

  • I think Reese (the keyboard player) didn't came to the band till maybe May or so of 85... If you saw him in March of 1985,at that time, they were still a trio, but as I said,I think maybe in or may or june,Reese came to the band, not sure!

  • I don't think so either, even though I try, no not Stevie, nothing can compare to Stevie but maybe Jimi Hendrix, are Eric Clapton, are the Allman Brothers. John Mayer (Shakes head) no, even when he was so heigh, he still had a heart. PEACE OUT.

  • Forgive me, but he is the greatest guitarist I have ever heard! I can't get enough.

  • Saw him in concert back in 86...still waiting for someone again...like him...to come along.

  • i dont think there ever will be

  • That's maybe the best guitar video I've seen so far!!! That tone, that feeling... Pure perfectness...

  • Best guitar performance ever....

  • I met SRV and talked with him several times in Troy Wisc. before he died in the helicopters. That night, we were commenting on how ominous the helicopters looked surrounded by guards in the fog.

  • I aggree with you kenf10tt. I one day decided to move up to 13's... it felt like playing a 12 string but harder! So i tried 12's. They were kinda rough but i got used to em. I use 12's constantly now. they give a much better sound i think and give more warmth to the music. I probably wont try 13's until my hands start to bulk up. Usually young kids hands are really thin and bony :-S.

  • Fingers @ 7:55.. yep, the dude bent notes That hard. We've all heard about it, there's the proof.

  • Fuck YOU 4623537

  • poor devil you are like old those people that acuse some people with rage .. but in their souls they know the truth .. you are for shure a victim or a predator... poor devil SRV IS THE SON OF GOD.
