  • now to explain why they wont work... the projectile breaks the speed of sound in a real firearm, this is what a silencer is made to silence. To an airgun thats muzzle velocity is under 1100 fps will not sound much different because the projectile and air from the barrel is moving to slow :-\ makes less of a difference the making the mechanisn of the gun more silent I figure, besides the fact its illegal in most countrys to change the report of any airgun?

  • @Me102288 They do work !!! A projectile over the speed of sound cannot be silenced, i have a HMR that proves this. A silencer on a HMR reduces the muzzle blast but not really noticed due to the sonic crack, There is a big difference with & without a silencer. A subsonic 22lr is quiet without a silencer compared to the HMR or HV 22lr & much quieter with a silencer. A spring air rifle is quiet with a noisy action, quiet compared to a PCP due to the amopunt of air used & the speed It's expelled.

  • @gunvidder so basically your saying every silencer made for a real firearm... is bogus because real guns always have a muzzle velocity over the speed of sound?

LOL I really do think you should look up how silencers work.. oh waita sec your right there, pcp rifle are loud.. Why? because the air isbreaking the speed of sound. eg you slow the AIR, not the projectile = redunction in sound.. anything under your redirrecting the sound away from you, thats why ppl think they work on toys :-\

  • @Me102288 A PCP with a pellet below 1,000fps is quite loud without a silencer. I use my HW80 without a silencer but my 960fps Theoben PCP is much louder without a silencer, so much I would equal it with a sub 22lr in the sence I woudn't hunt without a silencer on it. Even my slower other PCP's (now sold) were used silenced.

  • @Me102288 As it's legal to use silencers in the UK I have the freedom to experiment therefore the experiance & knowledge to pass on for the information of others that can't use & experiment.

  • @gunvidder yup, didnt say you cant use them, said there useless on anying that doesnt break the speed of sound :-\ the crack you get from a bullet breakng the speed of sound is what a silencer silences...

  • @Me102288

Silencers on air rifles work just as good if not better than on firearms...

A silencer is NOT made to silence the sound of the projectile but to muffle the pressure that comes out of the barrel after the projectile leaves it. You will still hear the bullet when it's faster than the speed of sound.

    You got it all wrong.

  • @2lbsTrigrPull lol, then loook up what they actually silence... the barrel crack you get from a object that breaks the SOUND barrier..

Its more silent to you because you redirrecting the sound lol. I guess you've never researched WHY a silencer works..

  • @Me102288 I have looked it up and read about it but you said " To an airgun thats muzzle velocity is under 1100 fps will not sound much different because the projectile and air from the barrel is moving to slow". Because the projectile moves slower than the speed of sound it isn't much of a difference you said.

Think about it... It makes MUCH of a difference wether the air/bullet is faster than the speed of sound or not.

Your quoted sentence is still wrong.

  • @Me102288 You keep telling people to research why suppressors work, but you obviously don't understand how they work. A suppressor DOES NOT affect any change on the ballistic crack you get when using supersonic/high velocity rounds, they affect the gases that propel the projectile. I have shot numerous firearms with suppressors, both subsonic and high velocity, and even standard 7.62mm rounds from a bolt gun sound like a .22LR, because the suppressor slows the gas, not the bullet.

  • @Tomster93 hence the air pushing the projectile isnt breaking the sound barrier...

So any propellent below 1126 ft /s a silencer will not work as a silencer.

And the end if your using supersonic ammunition a silencer is probably gunna do nothing, we'll have to come up with silenced supersonic ammunition? lol

  • @Me102288 Have you even fired a suppressed firearm? If you use a suppressor with high velocity ammo, you WILL hear a ballistic crack, about as loud as a .22 LR, but believe me, that's a lot quieter than it being unsuppressed. If you use SUBSONIC ammo (which they have), for the most part all you hear is the action of the firearm. You say "lol" like it's a joke and you know something we don't, but look up subsonic ammunition sometime, and educate yourself, because you don't seem to know $hit...

  • @Tomster93 yes, and thats exactly what I said about 1126 feet per sec.. Anything moving that fast is breaking the sound barrier. Hence anything that DOESNT a silencer acts as a simple muffler.

You do not use a silencer with subsonic ammunition.. OBVIOUSLY YOU DONT HAVE TO.

we're on the same page buddy.. now ask yourself, why is he putting a silencer on an airgun that niether projectile or air breaks the speed of sound. Well thats exactly why MUFFLERS were made. :-)

  • @Me102288 We are not on the same page. A suppressor isn't used to suppress the ballistic crack of the bullet, it's meant to dissipate the gases that push it. Even a subsonic bullet makes noise when fired; the gases make the noise. A suppressor suppresses that gas, super or sub sonic. When it's subsonic it is even more effective.

I use a moderator on my .22 PCP airgun right now. Without it you get a lot of noise, even at 860 fps. With it, almost no noise. Subsonic. Figure it out...

  • @Me102288 search "Suppressor (a.k.a "Silencer") Demontration" for a real world example. This shows a guy firing an M-16 with high velocity ammo unsuppressed then suppressed, which shows there is a noticeable difference in the report even though the round is still supersonic. Then it shows a suppressed rifle shooting high velocity, then subsonic ammo, which lets you hear the ballistic crack, then no ballistic crack. This also works on airguns, dampening the sound of the shot.

  • @Me102288.LOL @ you. They do work it is made to supress or silence the report of the wepon it self. Who cares if you hear the crack of the projectile as it flys by. You cant tell where it came from if there is no flash or report. And even low speed rounds out of guns still make a bang when discharged.

  • its close but i think the blue ones were a bit quieter ?

  • @hanzithaking Since makeing this I've done some modifications & improved it.

  • @gunvidder sweet :)

  • sounds exactly the same in my opinion - i have a bisley on my hw80k and a venom on my hw77k - much better than this one - good review though - filled my hw80k with epanding foam-trimmed it neat-and drilled through centre-amazingly quiter than bog standard-give it a try and put a review on-i would myself but i dont have the time these days-good video

  • @we66y357 I've tried modifying these with some succes, if you search I think I done about 6 films showing moddifications & improvements Inc' converting for 177 cal' use.

  • Do you know if these work with .25?

  • @lillhonken Sorry, no idea from experiance, you can take the end cap off & ease the hole out a little more if needed so I suppose the answer is yes.

    Just drill a larger hole.

I've had two other silencers (different make) that has had this done to them.

  • can i use it on a GAMO delta fox?

  • @MrPatrickp0078 If It's the rifle I'm thinking of you'd need to remove the front sight & either get the barrel threaded or get an adaptor.

I don't think a slip silencer would work as the barrel is fluted I think.

  • @gunvidder thanks,

  • have you tried wrapping the curlers with a red or green scotch brite pad? it would muffle the sound a lot more than the pieces you added round the curlers.

  • @thedriver Yes I have. I prefer felt but actually prefer a silencer without any padding.

  • The sound reduction efficiency of your silencer is not high as shown on demo video. Even if there is a silencer attached to your airgun, the output sound of the silencer is still loud. Just an advice, the holes of the inner tube of the silencer holding the sound muffling material must be slanted against the direction of the pellet being fired and not just perpenducular drilled holes. I designed a high performance silencer, if you are interested, email me at "nimrod_hunter_69@yahoo.com

  • nice video , but what is the name of that white.....;what you wrap around??

  • Red One mate.

  • @markjason123 I've since done some modifications to these silencers, have you seen those videos ???

  • @gunvidder not yet mate will do tho, keep up the good work.

  • latest one was better, was it blue?

  • I can't remember, I've done some modifications since.

  • yeah they all sound the same

  • One of my early videos.

Since these were made I've experimented with some of my own internals.

  • You can't test a silencer without firing a pellet from them and if you want to do a db sound test you have to do it outside.

I made several silencers myselve and got -14db.

  • i think the test would be far more accurate if the test was done outside so all mechanical noise dose not ecco and put the microphone infront of the muzzle. if you stand at the side of my rifle it is far louder than if you stand in front of the muzzle when the silencer is fitted.

  • From these tests I've now got a short list to test outside.

  • this design works well i just made one almost exactly the same except i used screen tubes, but i found it you leave out the first chamber and use just the padding and not the screen or harcurler, it works better, all i can hear is tank ping

  • You can get depingers or make them ?

My PH6 has that annoying sound.

I might get it sorted one day.

My R7 doesn't suffer it luckily.

  • Not common in the UK for air rifles.

Might be in the EU though.

I've not seen any silencers with that thread.

  • There are many types of thread used.

    You need to check.

    Mine are 1/2x20tpi UNF.

  • You can get slip on Weihrauch silencers. They should be in tha AA barrel size as It's a very popular rifle.

  • does this one fit the air arms s400??

if i let the gun dealer make a 1/2 UNF screw thing on it?

  • UNF adaptors are available without cutting your barrel.

You can allso get "slip on" silencers to fit your rifle.

  • great vid, the red seem`s to be quieter to me [just] but the blue has a deeper sound so might be the same on a db meater . just striped my silencer down on my theoben rapid 7 [ there rubbish ] going to rebuild it like a weihrauch and see wots its like

  • Oddly enough I thought the Blue was quieter.

Iim re'doing these tests & a R7 will be one of the rifles used.

A techy hitch has stopped me for now but will start them soon.

  • i agree, but is there anything better out there???

  • Just started field testing what I think are the best ones from these basic tests.

  • the webley fx has to much mechanical noise to do the silencer any justice. I own a brocock enigma which has the same problem. it is dramatically reduced but the hammer inside is pretty loud.

  • your clips are realy great! its just hard to hear the diference between each.. the db in numbers would be awesome!

  • i chose a 22. rifle silencer over this one because the matt finish only looks good on a matt finish gun. i think anyway!

  • Do you think is diffrent beetwen blu and red version... I don't hear.More.. maybe blue is most loud! I think red is quiet then blue..

  • Perhaps the sound meter test will reveal more ???

    Comeing soon !!!

  • sweet I can't wait !!!
