  • yessssssssssssssssssss!

  • Amazing cut of such a classic! Btw, guys we really don't need to "age-discriminate" (in a positive way though) ourselves to make a statement of appreciation. While you think it's good music, just enjoy it :)

  • Now that's swingin'! The best version I've heard from either of them. pjarden

  • I was at a lame party....everyone was just standing around awkwardly. I pushed the DJ over and put this song on and everyone went nuts. Some songs are just timeless.

  • I could just listen to her 24/7...she is, in my opinion the greatest jazz singer ever...I love this more than ever when at 5:58 she goes "It`s been a hard days night, and I been working like a"...then she goes into this scatting frenzy!!! At about 6:08 all the horns come in and everyone goes haywire, Ella`s scatting as though her life depends on it... I love it!!!

  • Is there any video of this performance?

  • the gut in the background is crackin up :)

  • I for one ain't going to tell you how old I am. Why? Because my age has nothing, nothing ! to do with the quality of music - whether it be Duke Ellington or Guided by Voices. Use yr heads, yo.

  • Ella's laughter and the guys going off in the background makes this song even 'awesomer' for some reason.

  • If you like this song youngins, check out the flick "Swing Kids", classic

  • I love music so much. It, unlike any art form, can actually make me feel things. Right now, I feel like dancing and have fun.

Too bad I dance like a dying chicken and am considered to be the antonym of fun. XD

  • This is music.

  • 6 people are complete crap heads!

  • I love her voice, and her joy so so much. It's kind of a gloomy day today, and this still managed to make me feel sunny and happy. =)

  • 6 people ain't got that swing!

  • NO ONE can put a smile on my face like Ella can. Not a soul.

  • Love Ella's solo 1:16 - 1:55

  • I have been a longtime Ella fan and still she surprises and delights me with recordings I've not heard before. She remains the Queen of Swing. She had then nor has no peer to this day.

  • Duke=piano

    Ella=swing

  • it's been my fav song for 1o years now, i never get enough

  • I don't think that fishsticks's comment is incomprehensible. Note the :old man voice: introduction. He's supposed to be joking. :-)

  • I invite everyone to listen this... on weed!

  • 4:25 is where the music starts connecting with the scatting.

  • These artist are some of the greatest legends in music history. There sound is timeless. They will always be remembered.

  • rather than criticizing this song, i think fishsticksIV was mocking people who think that way. chill people

  • Your comment is incomprehensible. I hope it is "tongue in cheek"...

  • Ella has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard! John Lamb is layin' it down on the bass too! 3:01 is pretty funny stuff! Peace.

  • one of the greatest recordings

    this album is awesome

  • one of the greatest albums of her , really, just wow

  • Τι αυτοσχεδιασμός.....

  • scatting needs to come back...in a big way!

  • @alixpaige2010 I agree! I'd do it, but my voice is terrible as it is now! Maybe I could find some training, I'd love to be part of such a revival.

  • My sister tried scatting like this xD not even close

  • We play this in band

  • Doo-bah-da-bah is the way.

  • i love ella

  • What I love is that there's no emphasis on having it vocally "perfect" - she has fun with it, plays around with her voice and even LAUGHS halfway through her performance - it's natural. I'm not much of a traditionalist in music (in fact, I think many of the themes of swing can be found in alt-electronica) but this natural unselfconscious way of singing has, to a certain extent, been lost as mainstream. A shame.

  • @Alathaea unselfconscious? no, she was always aware of how she was singing, how she was "messing up" or "making an error" (according to the modern definition of music and perfection). but these "errors", these "inperfections" are what make it PERFECT. it's the purposeful mistakes that make it ingenius, creative, truly free. it's the purposeful mistakes that make it JAZZ.

  • @alecwasawesome

    Indeed.

    Music is a spontaneous flow.

  • @Alathaea Auto-tune culture. 'Nuff said

  • Nobody worked harder - what a prize of a performance.

  • How can anyone out there possibly hate on the great Ella Fitzgerald? The scintillating seductress of scat deserves the BEST from older generations and new as well. Sorry but I had to type my input. Play on, Ella. Play on. Your biggest admirer,

    -The Cat.

  • I've loved jazz since I was a very small child. I'm 22 now and I'm not going to stop having that swing.

  • im a 16 year old punk rocker. love swing tho...

  • a CLASSIC SONG for ALL TIME

  • since the age of FOUR YEARS to my present age 82 swing; rythym and blues jazz quartets;jazz quintets; be-bop; all sensational till I die.Todays singing and screaming

    just RUBBISH FISHSTICK is NUTS.

  • Ella, Duke...Live on, live on. You will with me, I know that much.

  • Great. Feel the rithm!

  • This song gets a 10 on the fun scale. F-ing awesome!!!

  • @AuroraCelest - wikipedia says the male vocalist is Ray Nance

  • @luvvit I don't think so, what wikipedia meant is this one : /watch?v=nYic1lyBLVw (paste this after youtube.com in your browser)

  • I had a stroke several years ago and now occasionally suffer from from irony/sarcasm blindness. It is a relief to discover that such dinosaurs don't really exist. Good luck with raising your son to be a well rounded member of the human race an appreciation of great jazz will help

  • Anyone know who the male vocalist is? Is he Mr. Ellington or some lucky soul who got to perform with Mr. Ellington and the First Lady of Song?

  • :old man voice: Ankle and calves showing, talking about swinging around, this the devil's music! I caught my son listening to this satanic and immoral filth and told him to change the music. This is the downfall of society, back in my day you didn't show your neck unless you were a jazz flappin' hussy. This is what's wrong with teenagers today. They think they can go around swinging, doo-ahing and "havin fun". NOT ON MY WATCH!

  • @fishsticksIV

madam, you are a dinosaur, all your talk about the devil's music and moral degeneration was voiced at the time these records were made and that generation came through fine. Cut your son a little slack! He's just a youngster growing up faster than you understand. If you stay as you are and continue to deny that fact. he will end up detesting you

    as I did my mother

  • @akanippy *cough* sarcasm

  • @fishsticksIV I'm sorry but I have to ask are you REALLY serious? Cause I'm just laughing my tuckus off right now. No "doo-ahing" on my watch. No sirrry bob be-bop be-bop be-bop do-ditty-dop ah-la. Yeah!

  • @fishsticksIV "Ankle and calves showing..." Terrific stuff! On the other hand I do feel that Rock and Roll was a descent into, if not Hell, then Purgatory, compared with this music!

  • @fishsticksIV

    what is your problem exactly????

  • @fishsticksIV What are you doing listening to this music? And don't say you were not, because you took time too write that BULLSHIT. Back in your day if you had your hand in your pocket too long, you were immoral. Stick to the CORNEY stuff you SQUARE, and leave the CLASSICS alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @thesearch2011 you are so dumb it's unreal

  • @thesearch2011 It was a joke....

  • @thesearch2011 You need to be checked out for a sense of humor, because you obviously don't have one..

  • @thesearch2011

Oh lawdy lawdy. You just went full retard, son.

  • @fishsticksIV I wonder if there were people who really said that at that time :D

  • @fishsticksIV You're a fool. Society was much worse in the past.

  • @fishsticksIV this is classic music not stippers music. its called jazz and they dont do anything bad. .. ur crazy if you think its wrong

  • @fishsticksIV ahaa see i love swing...but i also love metal...and just about everything else...i think its good to have variety :D

  • @fishsticksIV HAHAHAHAHHA HELL YEA LMAO!! LOVE IT!

  • Duke is the man!!! what a combo! If you love the Duke, ck out this cool interpretation of his hit "SATIN DOLL" fused with neil young's cinnamon girl. fantastic!!!

    search Cinnamon Doll jazz

    enjoy!

  • this truly is real music. This video has 4 dislikes while rebecca black has 2,631,564. Point proven

  • Powerful, both musically and philosophically.

  • ahh they where drunk havin a great time its beautifull when alcohol is for the right thing

  • Holy guacamole.

Listening to this is so exhilarating and exhausting. I explode every time I hear it, but am out of breath afterwards.

I hope everybody listens and experiences this song at least once in their lives instead of passing it on as old crap not cool to listen to. For sure they'll get addicted soon enough :)

  • male voice is Louis Armstorng

  • @majc13 definitely 100% that is NOT Louis.. I have heard enough of his songs to know that that is not his style of scatting or even his voice. And this was the concert in cote d'azur... Louis wasn't even there...

  • Who sings the male part?

  • @3Glimpse3 forse lo stesso DUKE (maybe DUKE)

  • @solstat Well I'm not sure, I really don't think so, As far as I know Duke never sang. He only played the piano... wonderfully of course.

  • Happy Birthday Duke!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLA! You are still the Queen!

  • I started dancing to this in a book store when it came on...

  • Swing kids?

  • SWING HAIL!

  • @cluk619

haha i watched that movie today in school :)

  • Oh man, such a sweet sound of music doo-ah doo-ah....can we go back in time?

  • 3 people dont mean a thing....

  • @TheWye

Thumb me up if you're getting annoyed with those annoying as hell "thumb me up/down" comments. :P

  • @AuroraCelest I would thumbs up you but that would negate the whole purpose. :) Thumbs up don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing d(>.<)b Wow...there will be my creative moment for the day...so tragic. xD Damn song randomly gets stuck in my head once a month or so..it's time to fave it and call it a deal. ;)

  • my favorite scat singing by Ella! Everything about htis version is amazing!

  • 5:29 heaviest thing ever! Ella you bad woman!

  • 3 people obverusly do not reconize talent thumbs up if you agree

  • Amazing aaai

  • Ugh. Our quior(misspelled) Is making us sing this. After hearing this 999999 times it gets annoying

  • TO λατρευω αυτο το κομματακι,ειδικα απο εδω!!!

  • This is not Ella Fitzgerald, this is a Duke Ellington tune.

  • @whoxneedsxlife Ella Fitzgerald AND Duke Ellington, n00b...

  • @misterrandompancake No, "n00b", this is Duke Ellington's work and I was referring to the fact the the MP3 sale version from Amazon said it was Ella Fitzgerald's instead. The people performing it are Fitzgerald and Ellington, but it's not her work.

  • The only people i could possibly imagine who would dislike this song are the following:Southern Rightwing Extremists' that still find that black people should be slaves,Germans because frankly they have very little taste in jazz ,A mentaly disturbed person for not recognizing one of the greatest singers of all time

  • that voice!

  • I can't stop watching this! Her scatting is just CRAZZZZYYYYYYY!!!!! NOTHING BEATS ELLA! :)

  • I'm taking a dance class at my school and we watch swing Kids. You can now tell who took the class, because they can be found walking down the hallway whistling it, humming it, singing it, or even dancing to it. Its fun watching the people who didn't take the class wonder what the heck we are doing.

  • SCATTIN' at its FINEST! This jam is timeless. Wish we had more like it.

  • It is not humanly possible to dislike this, even if one has been living under a rock. I suspect they misclicked since the buttons are too close to each other.

  • shes her own instrument amazing

  • BEAUTIFUL SCAT!!!!!!

  • duke's intro is sick!

  • If you like this song, you'll like the movie Swing Kids. It's really sad.
