I never knew cockatiels can talk too. I did not even know they're also parrots. Many years ago when I was still in preschool I had a male grey one with the red feather cheeks and he did not even learn the simplest whistle melody. He was a good bird though and did not bite and was also very healthy and I could walk with him around on my shoulder. I loved very much and the only thing he chewed up was his cage's plastic bottom and he loved his swing.

Our cockertiel, "Buddy" is 10 years old and loves to sing when the Vacuum is on. His vocabulary consists of about twenty five words. His brain is the size of a pea, but he is smarter than most residents in this 55 and over, residential area in Florida. Could be because he likes Brocky ,scrambled eggs carrots and apples,along with his cockatiel food and of course his vitamins. He loves compliments, just like my wife! of 45 yrs. Life span of this bird is fifty years.

These birds don't die easily. I've had my cockatiel for about 12 years and he's never been sick. As long as you properly care for them -- Feed them more than just bird seed. My cockatiel knows when dinner time is and if there isn't something other than seeds in his dish he gets pissed and upset. Give them Carrots, corn or peas once in a while but never cooked or buttered/sauce vegetables. Careful with the fruits! tropical birds should have like.. Mango, banana, and papaya.

my 2 months old Cockatiel bird died. The way he died is what saddens me the most, when I was asleep on my bean bag in the living room, the poor thing saw me and jumped out of his cage and walked all the way to me and i think he slept on my right arm. When i woke up i didn't realize he was crushed under my back, i looked at his cage he was not there, and then i turned around he was there dead, I cried my eyes out, i miss him....it's my first pet.
