  • This Agnostic- Deist hearts this song!

  • when are they going to break out the SNAKES??

    IS IT THE NEXT SONG???

  • THIS IS A REAL CHRISTIAN SONG!!!!!! gREAT!

  • i dont think they have a committed religion they sing about the truth of shit

  • Why do his arms look so short?

  • alelluia!!! praise the lord!!!

  • Who ate Gano?

  • This album is really good. I like the light and dark contrast between songs this of course being the brightest. Devout baptist?!? You know it is possible to be a christian that doesn't believe in organized religion. I can't get any official sources on this. checked the official site nothing about religion looked at wiki they say it says it on something probably not written by the band. The wiki for this album has no citation for this claim. another bio says raised as a devout baptist.

  • I love v femmes, but, if G Gano is a devout baptist, then why

    play a song called " i'm nothing" ?????

If this is true, then he is something, is a devout baptist.

  • @carlosantie that's one of my favorite things about the femmes tho, yes he's religious but he doesn't let that get in the way of hisexpressing ALL of his emotions. I think they're music is really uplifting cause they're the only ones I know who talk about loving jesus and dying for a fuck on the same album. most bands that talk religion just seem like robots who don't feel anything but love, which is alright, but it's nice to hear someone scream about something you can relate to.

  • silly bunch of posers. you're not femmes fans. you probably still listen to the first album and act like you know their music.

  • Been in a Hallowed Ground mood and I've been singing this all week. It is a shame this band couldn't sort through their differences, and that Gano sold Blister in the Sun to Wendy's....oh twell....the re-release of their first album with the live disc is a must have.

  • one of the best femmes songs

  • 13 People don't have a soul

  • I am a Pagan and I LOVE this Song!!!!!!!!!! Whoever said it kicks ASS, I agree!!

  • I am a Pagan and I LOVE this Song!!!!!!!!!!

  • this song kicks Ass!

  • im an atheist and i love this fucking song!

  • @twispsalterego

    Me too.

  • This is fukin' great...search: the dawn of intelligence

  • Nice bass solo....

  • Could someone point me at some non-live versions of this song?

  • u can beat a troubled preachers son with a troubled preachers daughter. she beats a lot of things! lol. wink, wink.

  • Oh one more thing...thanks for the upload. Such an awesome band. The water that Jesus walked on was actual as well as metaphorical:the water representing the world(religion, pride, leaders, evil, corruption,"wisdom of the world",philosophy, etc) Please no flame wars let us all continue on as we are. Everything will be fine in the end. We are all hurting in different ways but in the end we are one. Violent Femmes FTW!

  • @pUnKrOcKnINjAgAmEr -- come on, man, it;s music! Let people listen without any preconceived notions. Yes, the song is geared toward an obvious theme, but telling people what they SHOULD hear just reinforces the forced imagery and tell-tale repetitivenous of YOUR organized religious thoughts... Let it go-drop the holier-than-thou shit and let the rest of the world form their OWN opinion.. great history, great story, but let the music happen, let the people hear thier OWN song, their OWN lyrics.

  • @madelineolivia I am my friend! Don't forget to do the same for me as well. Peace.

  • @madelineolivia Oh please pardon me father.

Ya know I just didn't hear you that, that, that

that first time that you said th...

help me, help me, help me, help me...

Repeat it, repeat it, repeat it.

I'll be sure do, do, do what I can

I just thought it was somewhat fitting to your comment lol.

  • I've heard this in it's masterpiece form and this is pure shit.

  • Weirdly wonderful...

  • This song asks if Jesus really died on the cross; did he resurrect; and did he walk on water and the answer is YES, he did all these things. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. You need Jesus to be saved from eternal damnation.

  • @lifeInAFallenWorld22 Get bent.

  • @lifeInAFallenWorld22

Your bullshit religion is becoming less and less welcome on this planet...

  • @Sectorsophia He's just been blinded by the orthadox traditions. Jesus hated religion.

  • @lifeInAFallenWorld22

    "I would die 4 U"

    -Prince, 1984

  • @lifeInAFallenWorld22

    no, no he didn't.

  • @lifeInAFallenWorld22 Eternal damnation is a lie brought in by the roman catholic church in the 5th century. 1Cor 15:22 As in Adam all die so as in Christ ALL shall be made alive but each is his own order. Have you ever read a LITERAL translation of the bible? Gehenna,Hades,Sheol and Tartarus are not a place of endless torment. 1Tim 4:10 God is the savior of ALL men, especially of those who believe. Faith is a gift and we don't all have it. God will reconcile all of his creation eventually. Peace

  • @pUnKrOcKnINjAgAmEr (Continued) Also nothing is exclusive from God. God is not hoping and he has no needs. Eph 1:11 God works ALL THINGS in accordance to the counsel of HIS will. Isa 45:7 I am the one who creates the light and makes the darkness. I am the one who sends good times and bad times. Don't let the orthadox traditions fool you into believing free will nor eternal torment

Calvinism says God can but won't. Arminianism says God wants to but can't. The truth is he can and will.

  • @pUnKrOcKnINjAgAmEr To those without faith: The orthadox church is misrepresenting God. My message is for those who misrepresnt God who think we're still under the Law of Moses, who think faith comes from people(no one seeks the Lord). God chose who would believe. Please know that there is no hell. There is nothing the Lord is unaware of. Never has been. godsplanforall(dot)com So please lifeInAFallenWorld 22...please research the truth. We are all exactly were we are supposed to be.

  • @pUnKrOcKnINjAgAmEr We are all where we are supposed to be!

  • Jesus.... Age has not been kind!

  • i can beat his son ....just not this son!!!

  • God bless you all + :-)

  • great band. great satire. i love this song.

  • @fuctanyway

it's not a satire. his dad was a baptist minister and gordon wrote and played a ton of christian songs,

    damn ! :(

  • @jojojigaboo Gano was a man who was both deeply sincere and deeply trouble. And this is FOLK PUNK MOTHAFUCKAS!

  • @jojojigaboo Gano was a man who was both deeply sincere and deeply troubled. And this is FOLK PUNK MOTHAFUCKAS!

  • Bass guitar is Brian Ritchie. Amazing player

  • He is awesome

  • i love these guys. Gordon Gano's got a ponch though! he used to be so skinny!

  • You just can't beat a troubled preacher's son.

  • @cementitiousman actually your the first person ive ever seen confirm that he a christian..... but i could always tell because of the dept of the, maybe that hes no somuch a christian nesseriously, but that hes serious about the song and not taking a shot at jesus.great song thought i put up there with "spirit in the sky"

  • @NotoTruth the depth of the song, that is

  • @cementitiousman yessssir !!! unbeatable !!!!

  • Yes

  • My all time favorite! I listen to and watch this every day!

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS?

  • AWESOME! Such a GREAT band!

  • :-) Love it!!

  • Gordon Gano is a devout Baptist. The song is not a joke. If you do a search and find their official site there are explanations of alot of things they did. This is a very uplifting song.

  • I always assumed this song was sarcastic about christianity...interesting.

  • @MrsBetrDeadThanSmeg good music transcends belief systems....if you replace the word Jesus with any two syllable named god of choice this would still work great.

  • @MrsBetrDeadThanSmeg ...umm...I think this is in total sarcasm.

  • nope

  • @synack7350

not a joke asshole! get a clue

    what are you 25?

  • Er, not the bass player, but the guy behind Gordon is.

  • Mandolin Player I´d say.

  • The bassist is Brian Ritchie. I don't think this is a KOKE persay, it's just a song. I don't believe they were actually contemplating the existance of the lil' ole man in the sky, just something to sing about! It's way to well put together musically to be a joke, no they're serious about playing!

  • I meant Joke, not KOKE-damn I just woke up! The way he hits that acoustic bass solo is amazing, he's definitely one of my favorite bassist of all times.

  • hey can u tell me the bass gutarsts name

  • @MrTableturns

    Brian Ritchie-Hes the best!

  • @MrTableturns bass player is brian ritchie

  • When did I ever give you the impression that I thought it was a joke?

  • Bassist's wearing a dashiki. =)

  • Atheist for most my life, but I really do love this song.

    Beautiful.

  • no i just dont like the violent femmes called crap

  • FUCK YOU AND FUCK KANYE

  • Yikes! Looks like this guy doesn't like good music at all!!

  • Hey ColossalFofl: I guess you screwed up didn't you. Don't be such a colossal ass.

  • Hey 460823357: I guess you screwed up on picking a name, you have to press letters not the number pad, Good job. And its ColossalRofl, way to read douche. Next time to be such a 460823357.

  • This Is the most senseitive video Ive seen thus far on youtube, what a song.

  • We danced to this soaking in the rain was the coolest and weirdest thing on earth...when they played in my hometown behind an Irish bar downtown. Weirdness.

    Goodness. thanks for the vid!

  • thats mad awsome

every time i hear this song now i think of dancing in the rain behind a bar with my freinds

    weird

  • there's always youporn for what youtube doesn't have

  • damn youtube has everything you can remember except real porn.I loved this song,i had my own video of this song in my head with jesus walking on water tiltting his head from left to right to the beat of the song. P.S. wears the song "i love the black girls, more than the white girls"They're the only white boys ever to love black girls more than white girls.I love all kinds of women, and i love american music.

  • great song.great album!all the songs on this record were written the same time as the songs on there first record. they jsut had enough material to make two records.

  • I love them doing this song.....they make gospel cool lol....this song is bitter sweet for me reminds me of my childhood when my parents made me go to those silly tent revivals.

  • always good femmes!!!! there a little old but if you were around then you could get it!!!! alot like the tragically hip in a way!!!! just had to be in the age group........you'll get it in a couple years

  • okay so it's a bad video. don't diss the femmes.

  • what happened to good ol' femmes? went from punk to coun try?????? eww

  • They didn't go from anything to anything. This song is SOOOOO old

  • @ZLY1113

    this was on their 2nd album..from 1984!

    hallowed ground is the LP.

    they ALWAYS did gospel songs

    look into it!

  • man i have never heard this song before... and i am a big femmes fan

  • It's on Hallowed Ground, If you're wondering. Not a great album but it's got a couple good songs, especially "Never Tell" and "Black Girls."

  • i think it's their best album...:)

  • I disagree entirely. Hallowed Ground is one of my favorite albums of all time. Top to bottom an intense tour-de-force for the Femmes. My only complaint is that the song order is backwards from the original album. Should Start with "Hallowed Ground" and end with "I Know Its True..."

  • :( I guess I'm the only Femmes fan who did not love Hallowed Ground. I might as well give it a few more listens and see if it grows on me.

  • definitely. one of my favorites. actually i dislieked every album but the self titled one for a long time but theyve grown on me. i love them all now!

  • mmmmm i've heard better versions than this!!!!

  • i cannot believe that they r not christian. i have loved them since they were born (again).

  • They as a band aren't, but Gordon Gano, at least at the time the second album was recorded, was.

  • I hope she got fat!!!

  • cool

  • are they christian

  • Yep

  • No, just Gano is Christan, the other two are atheist.

  • like an athlete hanging around past his/her prime

  • i love how they can go from this to "dance motherfucker dance."

  • Their style is very varied in general. Listen to the greatest hits cd add it up pretty much every songs completely different.

  • yeah, i've got that album... what cracks me up is that Gordon Gano is christian, so this isn't sarcastic and mocking...

  • yes it is. even though i have nothing to compare it to. i kinda just started listening to the femmes

  • @beatlefreak777 Talk about your mixed messages...

  • I have this album on LP. But I only bought it for the song "I hear the rain." Wow I had no idea. Great song. Fun video, thanks for posting this. :)

  • i love this song because it's something i can actually let my child listen to without fear of having her bible thumping dad getting pissed.

  • What? Bible thumping is bad, but wipe away the Pat Robison, Jimmy Swaggart, and Billy Graham then you might learn something.

  • Good, cause this jesus sings this song too!

  • Lol, speaking as a confirmed atheist, I still like this song... This is from their second album, Hallowed Ground 1984

  • Songwriting wise I think this album was much.

I learned to play bass from listening to Brian Ritchie. I finally saw them in like 98 or something. They were great as I expected!

  • gordan gano the son of a preacher man. grew up in the church.

  • I'm a PK too. I listen to rock music and I rebel too. Gordon Gano is just more kickass at it than me.

  • yay i found them on here, im related to gordon

  • soooo.....

  • This song has been great and still they play it very well, touching the heart!

  • I am they are still touched by the Holy Spirit that inspired them to sing this song, He did die a mystery for us to be humbled at yet be awe inspired by....

  • love the femmes....but the years have not been kind to them. poor bastards never got the recognition or commercial sucess they deserved.

  • yeah, that's true but I think a good thing. Probably would have spoiled them like it has so many others. Plus it still pathetically makes me feel borderline original and not one of the crowd to consider myself one of their fans.

  • You're probably right, money ruins bands quicker than drugs, but its also made them desperate. For example Gano sold the rights to blister in the sun to Wendys. Ganos a vegetarian, lol. Now Ritchie is suing him, no chance they'll ever play together again, unless someone waves a stack of cash in their faces. Too bad, they were a fantastic unique band. RIP

  • lol your total bullshit typ044, Gordon didn't sell the rights to blister in the sun to Wendys, notice they only played the beat in the background and no words. Brian isn't suing him either rofl and of course they are going to be playing again. Where the hell did you get that info from in the first place?

  • google it einstein, the story was carried by AP

and is all over the web, its a fact.

  • Actually, he did. There is an open letter from the rest of the band to their fans explaining that that decision was Gordon's and Gordon's only and they receive NOTHING from royalties.

  • ahh no worries, its not the first time they've sued each other. They haven' played together since it happened but they did just do a cameo together for an upcoming movie, so I think they will tour again

  • google it einstein, the story was carried by AP

and is all over the web, its a fact.

  • You know you're right cuz everything on the internet is a fact and none of it is wrong...EVER!

  • good, i'm glad you've figured that out doofus, lol.

  • Just like the newspaper....

  • Sie sind genial.

  • They are still good, but this version is a little disappointing...Usually they sound alot better live...And they sure have changed in appearance...

  • Saipanrick is right, man, this is brings back memories. Can't sing, but he sings the best songs. I don't get it, that makes him a legend. Lol. Country Death song is the best still though.

  • folk punk

  • Actually this is a really old Femmes song (1984) off their record "Hallowed Ground", which also included "Black Girls", "Country Death Song" and "It's Gonna Rain".

  • what. the. fuck; why'd they have to go & get all religious?

  • Theyre preachin bout Jesus for real for real?? Im kinda diggin it, but come on.

  • feckin excellent band.thanks.

  • So they found Jesus...some of the Guitar riffs are familiar, but the vocal is truly different. Very folksy. I like it though...

  • I agree with babybundon, this music sounds depression era, but songs like gimmie the car and even kiss off have a perspective that makes it seem Gordon wasn't comfortable 'on the darkside' <-- still too bad he was reborn, seems all good voices reporting from the dark side glom onto religion, and the darkside is left with garbage like 'Candyshop'

  • folk music is dark...the depression...dark times...

  • This song makes me laugh everytime. I love it.

  • Excellent Video You guys rock now and forever in all variations of your music capabilities... all you haters need to appreciate their music abilities not for the content of the song but the depth and intensity of the music.

  • Right on Azriel...you are quite correct...they played this in my town and it rained and everybody was soaking wet dancing..it was f...... amazingly fun!!

  • utterly splendifferous...love 2 the femmes

  • But you do the dark side so much better Femmes. Makes you wonder...

  • Love it!

  • oh god this is not the Violent Femmes I know And Love.

  • Shocking. One star. Seems that being reborn depletes one of their creativity and talent. And I go to church every Sunday. BTW, I'm not reborn. Just normal.

  • You ignorant fucking twat. This was one of their earlier songs. They sing, and have always sung, a mix of religeous and anti-religeous songs. To say they are "born again" is just plain bollocks.

  • You folks should hold off on making comments until you get more familiar with their music, because this is one of their classics.... they didn't just get born again, this song is from the 80's I think.

  • If it's from the 80s then why is he such a fat ass? And how can they play this and then stuff like Add it up?

  • Pay attention here... I said this "song" is from the 80s... Not this video clip! There's a difference, because you see many groups continue playing their songs long after their initial debut, sometimes even after many years, even after they have become "fat asses" as you so elegantly put it...

  • One of my favorite VF songs. I love the violin solo.

  • this is a great video. The introduction is my favorite part.

  • the years have not been kind

  • excelente video, VF la mejor banda del mundo los he visto 3 veces y cada que vengan cerca de mexico los volvere a ir a ver felicidades muy buen video

  • man this song is so much better when you are actually there, i saw them last year and it was the best show ive ever seen. this song is better the the intro, someone find a video of that.

  • Geez...They still rock! A great band like these guys will never be reproduced.

  • loved it please e-mail me it

  • Violent Femmes !

Still good, since over 20 years
