And only an idiot Utah fan would be so in denial as to think a Fiesta Bowl win is better than a National Championship. In 1984 BYU was the best team in the nation and could beat anybody. In 2004 Utah was probably tied with Auburn for 3rd in the nation behind USC and Oklahoma. 1st is better than 3rd. Understand?
Oklahoma got beat by USC 55-19. you cant honestly tell me that utah wouldnt have gave them a better game. im not saying that utah was the best team in the nation but they were tight at 2nd.
At best Utah was a strong #2 behind USC, and tied with Oklahoma and Auburn. Being #2 and winning the Fiesta Bowl isn't as good (let alone better) than being #1 and winning the National Championship, which is what your fellow Utah fan was saying up above.
@gnr4evr06, byu the best team in 1984? byu wasn't even tested against any opponets that finished the season ranked in 1984.........so there's no telling how good or bad they actually were that year.........I honestly think that byu wasn't good enough to be a top-five team that year......maybe #10-#15, but not a top-five. And byu would've most likely lost to Washington that year (who had a share of the national title with byu in 1984). UW also played AND beat a harder schedule than byu did.

ok so the funny thing is, is that byu had to beat a 6 loss michigan team in the last few seconds of that game, in 04 utah would have beat or at least put up a good game against, usc, oklahoma, and auburn. and if we put the 04 utah team against the 84 cougars, i promise you that utah would have killed them, the only reason the BCS was created was beacause of the so called national chapionship that you have. i would rather win a bcs game now than have won the national title game in 84 like byu did
