Get a life. Your bored you got right comments on peoples personal life on pages that celebrate his work. Sounds like a typical no friends, no social hobbies, pathetic loser.
oh yeah, and his singing sucks, too. He's a piece of crap compared to Ella, Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Bobby Darin, and numerous others. He's not a hack, but so boring and middle of the road, just like hypocritical racist America loved him.
Had four sons, drove two to suicide, and all became substance abusers. Sounds like typical Republican child rearing to me. Bing would've made a great gestapo agent.
I remember my mom and dad got this really neat phonograph player. Amd mom had these two really special Photograph Albums but when you opened them up , there weren't pictures in them, There were big 78's Records. and the first one in the first slot was mom's favorite. On one side was Big and Gary singing "Sam's Song" and on the other side was this "Play a Simple Melody" ... I just heard both of them after many years. I was hoping she be there listening. wow. that was 1950-51 some 60 years ago!
Regarding their relationship its interesting to note that there might even be some suppressed anger coming through in Garys performance. Notice Bing's 'steady, steady' and 'don't lose your head' comments. I'm not sure that was scripted! Seems like he was on the verge of scolding his son in the middle of a song, haha.
@ApoloExpress Did you also know that Bing really abused Gary? He abused all of his sons from his first marriage. All four of them died before the reached 70 as well. Two of them, Dennis and Lindsay in their 50's, committed suicide, Gary died of lung cancer at just the age of 62 and Phillip died of a heart attack at 69. Bing Crosby was a very talented singer, as well as actor, but a drunken lout as well.
Thank you for this. I once heard the song on Radio 4 (UK) and it stuck. Today I did a search on the lyrics, then used them to locate this. It's been a long time.

It's amazing that Gary would be willing to sing this song with his father, after all the abuse he gave him
