I find it hilareous how they keep trying to tell us Kovu isn't Scar's kid, he just happens to look just like him. And Nala's father, well they just avoid that entirely, because it was either Mufasa or Scar as they were the cooalition males running the place and both complicate things. Disney Lions have only the vaugest resemblence to real lions, which is a good thing really, because while lions are stunning creatures they also love their infantcide a wee bit too much. Love the movies though ^^

Yeah, this adds more to Zira's character and I guess builds on her being an antagonists, and sets IN STONE that SCAR IS NOT KOVU'S FATHER. Because yes, even though they say it a zillion times in the movie, as you've seen, people still miss that little bit.

But then again there's something funky going on with generations in this, cos Kovu would have to have been born when Scar was still alive, making him technically from Simba's generation and not Kiaras. Such as Franklin Roosevelt to Eleanor Roosevelt who were cousins. Its not uncommon across the world for cousins to marry. In the American South this is known as "kissing cousins" I wish they kept Kovu as the son of Scar. I think the point of the movie is that you make your own choices rather than being forced to follow an ideal simply because it feels right or because it's what you were taught or raised to do.
