Lol, do you guys know what really happened? He messed up with the Fender Jaguar switchs and turned off the pickups. After this concert he used a tape to lock up the switches. A newbie with a Jaguar = "guitar going out". :-)

I've had this problem with a distortion pedal as well.If the guitar cord is bent a little bit it spreads the u-clip on the pedal input.For a DS-1 being metal it still shatters nicely.

I noticed that too, but I think it just may be because the audio/video is aged. That somtimes happens to records and stuff. I'm pretty sure they played this in standard, because I know they played in all standard til 92. :P
