  • I think what Guthrie is referring to is FEEDBACK, not sustain. They're both different.

  • Or check out the Fernandes Sustainer!

  • @Poisonseed I think the fernandes sustainer is much easier haha: D

  • rip gary ! Guthrie is amazing !

  • what about a compressor

  • key word "exploring", thats what its all about

  • any1 in lick library know if govan is a sound purist or an easy going guy? Ive been seeing a lot of videos of him and sometimes I see him as a nice guy and sometimes a bit too picky and like some annoying sound purists out there. any1 knows him for real? I want to know

  • @101DIGITAL010 who cares he talks with his music so listen to that

  • You remind me of a young Ian Anderson

  • or get a sustaniac

  • "mighty amp turned to 11" nice Spinal tap Quote Guhrie!!!! but Gary used a 59 Les Paul wich is known for its infinite sustain.

  • @Akira161 Gary's Les Paul was actually Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac)'s , with an out-of-phase neck pickup that gave it the sound and part of its sustain. He got it for 100 quid, too.

  • thanks jesus now i can sustain like a pro

  • compression pedals will do the job nicely

  • That was wise but...There are some Feedback Distortion pedals, like boss which are sustaining your notes.

  • @poprostudaniel I used to own the Boss DF-2... it merely generates the tone you're playing at the moment you step on the pedal. You can let go of the note and the pedal will keep producing the note, like a synth. You can not apply vibrato, you can't change pitch... so it sounds VERY sterile and lifeless. I suggest an E-Bow or a good compressor, it will sound far more musical.

  • Spinal Tap reference

  • Fernandes sustainer pickup. Problem solved.

  • @ThePentatonicPro your the man

  • unusually nice les paul?

  • @machinegunlicks gary used to own a 59 les paul, given to him by Peter greene

  • haha your awesome :)

  • Something so simple as feedback, but still Guthrie knows how to give a real, practical, intelligent lesson.

    That is a real teacher

  • dont you think he sounds kind alike microsoft sam? xD

  • Turned up to 11 ;))

  • guy is high but damn hes cool!

  • A cranked compressor works quite well for this. I used a Dyna Comp and a Fulldrive to pull off Ebow parts without the Ebow for years.

  • who would like to play a not for so long anyway?

  • Gary *** Miss you***

  • Gary Moore died some hours ago... RIP :(

  • Steve Vai doesnt have a multitude of crosses on stage, he has a Persian rug. He does also have an ebow type device built into one of his guitars which he just switches on and off.

Some of the tricks Steve Vai does would make you cringe when you find out how they are done. However he is still insanely talented.

  • @TheGodlessGuitarist he has a fernandes sustainer briedge pickup on one of his guitar. I think in his oldest white one if Im not mistaken. and you are right about the rug and such. never seen him mark anything...neither him or joe. they just find it there on the spot.

  • @MrArsenioOro Well Joe "maps out" the stage before he does the show, for the feedback in Flying In A Blue Dream.

Also, @TheGodlessGuitarist , what does the rug do?

  • "The louder you turn things up, the better it sounds"

  • haha maaan guthrie, i love you :D

  • vai uses fernandez sustainers.

  • I'm new to this dude. I really like him. Not in the gay way either.

  • "Unusually nice Les Paul"? I know GG still has a soft spot for Strat-type guitars and sounds as well as a fondness for Gibson 335s, but does this mean he doesn't like Les Pauls much?

  • @Nasosdag Les pauls arent that nice dude. At least for technical stuff like what Guthrie plays. I wouldnt be able to play half the stuff i do if i didnt have a thin neck and dual cut guitar. Thats why every band that plays technical stuff dont use les pauls. Those are for more chord based styles like standard rock or pop punk.

  • @originsofdecayguitar I have a Les Paul and can say that the problem is that there isnt a cut away on the fretboard (where youur thumb is) so trying to reach notes like the 17th and 22nd fret etc is a fucking nightmare plus there is the toggle switch in an awkward place, still though they sound fucking nice.

  • Yes hat's a kind of harmonic feedback lol

  • I wanna see guthrie use use an Ebow. :)

  • i thought steve just liked to dance D:

  • Nice Spinal Tap reference.

  • Flanger and delay turned all the way up gives me pretty good sustain. I use GHS strings, sweet strings.

  • @SteelSkullX ew no. neither increase sustain they add a spacial-ness though. To increase sustain you need good vibrato and musical feedback. Find the right spot and your guitar will sustain forever until you choose to stop the note. Semi hollow and hollow guitar it becomes easier because the soundboard will resonate much more than a solid guitar. Obviously if youre using insane gain you dont want a hollow guitar. The easiest way to get sustain is use a compressor.

  • all right ... the headstock

  • 20 minute note lol

  • 20 minutes niiiiice!!!

  • wise
