I still have the 45.. i loved this song.. my Mom thought it was giving me idea.. but... in all honesty I had those ideas long before the song... it just drove me onward!!!
Where did you get this 45 mix? I bought the CD from Amazon but on the album version of this song the vocals seem muffled. I looked on iTunes, everywhere, and can't find this as a single.
@57highland Early to mid-60's band from NYC. There are some clips with info. about them on You Tube. (or try the Allmusic website) Suzi Quatro's first band in the 60s was also an all girl band -the Pleasure Seekers. There were others in the 60s too.
@57highland Well, yeah... "Goldie" is also known as "Genya Ravan" and they had the original hit (in the UK) of "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat", better known as being by Herman's Hermits.
@shmuli9 Wow. I was just a little kids during Herman's Hermits time, and also I found out that a lot of British acts were never heard over here in the States and vice versa. That's why I had never heard of Goldie.
@57highland Indeed! Same with Australia, to a point. (There were a lot of Australian remakes of American artists' hits.) I wasn't even born when Herman's Hermits was really popular... I WAS around, though, when Fanny had this hit! "Goldie and the Gingerbreadss" were actually American.
@shmuli9 If you live in the States and don't hear of an American band, there's a reason for that too. I recall groups who had much talent but only one borderline hit. Sometimes it's bad management, or problems within the band, or just bad timing. But I know from listening & reading that some really talented people have had one hit, then disappeared from the charts. I guess if you go beyond the charts, you know who they are, but for the longest time, I was just a kid listening to the radio.
@57highland Yes, and it happens theother way, too (a British group will have NO hits in the UK, but will be rather successful in North America, like Wang Chung, Escape Club, and so forth).
@57highland OR do ya think it could be that they are female and in the early and mid 70's they were WAY ahead of their time, industry not ready for wimmin with such talent - still a "boys" club
@rainspirit100 Yes, I do think that it could have been those reasons too. I didn't think much about the fact that they were a female band. If I like a song, it doesn't matter who, and I really liked "Butterboy." Coincidentally, at the time it was on the radio, I liked this girl at school with really long straight hair, like June Millington.
Jean Millington and her sister June are an incredible team. FANNY was an incredible band, especially the original four, but I have always felt that the later incarnation was underrated...especially by Jean! Jean is an AMAZING player and singer; to see her live is a thrill. She has a dry sense of humor in person, and is as moody as any artist I have ever met. At her core is deep love. She is a healer. I love her. "Rock N Roll Survivors" is now available on cd, w/ the Top 40 hit, "Butter Boy".
Looked for this forever!!!!
and damn...just cuts off! (bummer)

@eleazarfashion This is a vinyl 45 I bought in 1975. It was on Casablanca records in the U.S. at that time.

The trailer for the upcoming film about the Runaways describes them as "the first female rock band."
Someone didn't do their homework. Fanny was first.

@57highland Before Fanny there was Goldie and the Gingerbreads.

Hmm I could turn up the volume toward the end too and call it a "special version" too. You must think we're stupid.
