  • i think it dus tht 50 times a second

  • simple but impressive

  • thanks, this explained so much

  • hmm nice

  • And you got no life watching it LOL

  • nice speaking

  • Deutsche: I don't mean to sound like a prick, but a good portion of the mechanism is only about 40 years old or so, it's based on a mechanism that's about 140 years old or so, that Richard Gatling designed

But you can't argue the fact that it's still awesome XD

  • From a strip of bullets.

  • You don't like South Park? <8-/

    Well, then excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me.

  • @whiterottenrabbit yeah what a fucking goon NOT appretiating the genius behind the writing is for FAGS....(get it?)

  • Uhm, no, I can't say I get it. This is probably due to my suckage in internet slang and, partly, because of sitting in front of my computer for 12 hours trying to get some fucked up stuff to work.

  • just the fag reference...south park dedicates at least a whole episode(two whole episodes now) to the word fag in some way or another....

  • Ahh yeah, I understand... Well, I didn't like this biker-fags episode. As a matter of fact, I don't like the new episodes in general. For me, seasons 1 - 7 were the best. Also, I don't like how the voices changed.

  • Well, actually, it was completely unnecessary. It's just that your question reminded me of South Park, where they were gonna say the word "shit" for the first time on television. The children asked Chef, if he knew, where "shit" comes from.

  • a belt of ammunition housed in a LARGE box

  • this mechanism is at least 140 years old, but still great :)

  • From your ass, children!

  • du skulle nødi snakke

  • Ohhh i get it now lol i thought it only fed into one chamber xD

  • dam you ruined it all.... why cant you say its magic?!!!!

    ITS JUST MAGIC EVERYONE

    MAGIC

    MAGIC

    MAGIC

  • Still the same Gatling gun principle :-)

  • its so great cause its loade fired and ejected and so on and so forth all at the same time

  • Awesome I didnt know how the m134 fed

  • interesting !!!!

  • wow that explains a lot

i never really thought about how they worked i figured it was some sort of magic....

  • gute arbeit dude^^

  • A Minigun (or a powered Gatling Gun) is simpler than it looks. One wonders how something like this was invented during the US Civil War.

  • geil^^

aber gut zu wissen wie so ne minigun funktioniert . D

  • masterbengkopf, don't be so horny man. It's just a gun.

  • Great animation, but it didn't explain how the bullets get in there. I'm assuming chain-link, but you just had them floating up there lol

  • Spring fed magazine

  • they're fed into it by links, you can see them flying out of a seperate hole when it's firing

  • Not really much info in that vid.

Would be nice to see the whole picture or a print in 3-d broken down.

    Very interesting.

  • "How the Minigun fires up to 6000 rounds/min, using batteries!!"

Actually, most miniguns are powered by something like a hydraulics system. Batteries simply don't have the power to weight or energy to weight ratios, and helicopter gunships already have the hydraulics on board.

  • so thats how it works!!

  • some people think they can outsmart me, maybe...snif... maybe... I have yet to meet someone who can outsmart bullet.

  • maybe that magneto guy from xmen can outsmart a bullet if you used led bullets.

    lead is magnetic right?

    Him and Neo too :D

  • Everything's magnetic if you can induce a current in it.

  • erm, not everything conducts... even if you cool it to absolute zero. also non-ferrous metals and a few ferrous alloys wont behave magneticaly... how ever they can emit magnetic flux... but thats something different.

just thought I'd be a smart arse for a change.

  • You're right. When you see frogs and stuff levitating in a magnet, it's probably the water and trace metals...

A chunk of plastic might not be magnetic at all, even under extreme circumstances.

The world needs more of use smart asses.

  • rofl

  • Bravo!! good job mate.

  • i didnt say nothing bad to you so you dont need to be mad

p.s and i dont think that 7.62 caliber is a airsoft gun

  • hey lisent li7in6 my father is in the army and he knows abaut the guns way more than you i agree that you cant hold the minigun from helicopter BUT!!!!!!!! there is a smmaler model of minigun that you CAN HOLD

  • Ya my girl friend drags me around all the time with one of tose things strapt to me(she is parinoid ithink)

  • i saw a guy shooting alone it was not atached on car or sonthing he holdet alone i say that is almost imposible but he did it and it was not an airsoft

  • No, you didnt. it is IMPOSSIBLE to hold an M134 wtand alone and fire it, the average recoil is around 300lbs. meaning the recoil is more than most people weigh. even if a person weighed over 300lbs, they simply would not have the arm strength to hold this gun, if someone tried the gun would go wild and kill anyone or anything around including the shooter. don't make shit up, you saw an airsoft gun.

  • Minigun XM134 as presented here is awesome weapon. It would be cool to fire that stand alone. It is impossible tough. It is classified as heavy machinegun mean impossible to fire without support. Not wonder- a bit of facts: weight 25 - 30 kg, 120kg of recoil and 4000 RPM were 2000 of 7.62 round weight over 50kg....just another Hollywood myth.

  • Wonder of engineering.

  • doesn't the minigun run on electric or somet?

  • they need a small handheld version

  • man, i need to put one of these on the roof of my house. or in my living room for when i talk to my daughter's boyfriends. just point at it and say "i will use it."

  • thanks, i have always wonderd how the firing system worked

  • verry simple system accually

  • Since nobody ELSE has...

I am heavy weapon's guy. And THIS is my weapon.

    Also

RUN COWARDS! AHAHAHAHAHA! CRY SOME MORE! HA HA HA HAAAAAA! eh heh, cry some more.

  • Om nom nom nom

  • WHO TOUCHED SASHA?!

  • WHO TOUCHED MY GUN?!

  • I gotta get one of those and install it onto my tank.

  • of course the germans are in the nato

  • and there for you must insult him?

  • and thats why it says in the description, UP TO? :P

  • true the barrel has to rotate up to speed

  • question. For these to fire, does the barrel have to rotate up to speed before the gun begins to fire? Im assuming the barrel is motor driven correct? Please, I would prefer someone who actually KNOWS the answer to this question respond.

  • yes it would have to get close to top speed for them to fire to maximum spm

  • From what I UNDERSTAND (not 100% positive here), a gatling type weapon can fire at any rotational speed. However, the best and safest (for the operator) results are produced when the barrel assmebly is spun up before firing.

  • good to know, thanks for the response!

  • think that 50 times faster

  • let's build a minigun!

  • excellent graphic

  • Now you know, so get building one of your own lol

  • so the shots is fired by the barrel that is in the top right?

  • Just ..asking.. is there any ebay paintball replicas for this?

  • love the attention to operating detail, 5 stars bro

  • i was always curios as to why they dont carry as much sideways momentum as it would apear from speining so fast. Anyone care to explain?

  • Because momentum from something spinning is projected in the right-hand normal direction to the rotation. ie, out the end of the barrel (if it's rotating clockwise viewed from the operator position). While the firing mechanism is active it is difficult to change the direction of the gun because of this. This is why operators fire short bursts and let go of the trigger before switching targets...that and it's a waste of ammo!

  • PHYSICS

  • Beautiful manufactoring. Looks like a really rough gun, but the precision in breathtaking!

  • ahh nice whered you find this

  • lol i was just being random sorry

  • You really never seen a penis is it dude :S

  • If you shoot your little dudes in this "penis" it'll take you 58 days to make one shoot...

    LOL

  • if your penis looks like that i suggest you see a doctor

  • lol

  • Hmmm, so that's how a lead rod shooter works.

  • Nice demo

  • Wow,thanks man, several times i wondered how does that monster gun works :D

  • gatling who made his gun was a pacifist and wanted it to be so powerful and deadly that people wouldnt want to fight wars with it. he was right about the powerful and deadly part.

  • nice now i get it

  • A 50 cal minigun would be way overkill. It doesn't need to be a huge caliber when it's shooting 4 to 6 thousand rpm.

  • youre right. even .22 shells would do a lot of damage when 1000 of them hit the same spot

  • Exactly. Why would the military spend all that money on a 50 cal minigun, when a M2 can destroy any target they wan't.

  • .22 are actually lethal up to a mile.So they would work very good.

  • well, a low calibre gun would`t have a long range due to low weight. and lesser armor penetration on armored vehicles

  • Yeah it wouldn't. I'm not saying it should be a low caliber, the 7.62x39 is a good round

  • Agreed, I wanna 7.62x39 mini, lol..

  • If the GAU-17 is to "small, take the GAU-8 Avenger! *g*

  • It has the same mechanism as the "gatling gun" which, if i remember right, was invented aroung 1960

  • Try 100 years before that in 1861. :)

  • damn!

  • can they be modified to shoot .50 bullets or is there already a .50 cal minigun?

  • wow. the guy or people that made that mech should get a medal and a fucking blow job from some hot girl every day of the week.

  • mother of all firing mechanisms

  • Yes,it is. This is the newer version the older was used in the civil war :P

  • I assume this is an American invention? Whoever designed that should be knighted. It's incredible.

  • make it portable, that wud be KICKASS!

  • unfortunately if the minigun were portable enough to be carried, the recoil of it firing would break your back.

Yes addernoir it is an all American weapon

  • If it were portable, the ejected bullets would move so fast that they would tear your flesh if you weren't wearing body armour. Also, you wouldn't be able to carry enough ammo to fire for more than a few seconds. Life just isn't fair, is it?

  • yea, thats true. but has an military ever mounted them to something other than helicopters? id like to see a minigun+humvee

  • They did in the early eighty's as an experiment

  • what was the result?

  • watch?v=QC8jnSaCqxY

  • Search "Mythbusters Fire a Minigun"..

They have one mounted to the roof of a jeep,

    Its pretty awesome :)

  • chain mail sucks asshole

  • My knowledge is complete...

  • I WANT ONE!!!!!

  • i toooooooooo

  • dito! ^^

  • NATO is French German and Italian how could it be from USA?

  • NATO is north atlantic treaty organization. something tells me the germans and italians arent in it. i dont even think the french are. you must be thinking of the UN or united nations. nato rounds are standard for the allies of the us.

  • Umm... Germany, France, Italy, pretty much all of Europe, Canada, Turkey, and a slew of others are in Nato.

  • are you sure thats not the un?

  • ya hes right i think it was created by the Europeans

  • Italy, Germany and France are in NATO for sure... check it out on wiki

  • maybe it changed or maybe im just thinking of something completely different.

  • Nato rounds are just 5.56 mm rounds used in weapons in countries in Nato such as the SA80

  • The 7.62mm x 51mm is also a NATO standard round. It was in use before the 5.56mm x 45mm

  • Cool! now imagan that 100 times faster

  • more like a million lol

  • Niiiiice :)

  • Cops should wear this, instead of 9mm

  • It blows the mind to think how fast those parts would actually move at

  • niice

  • has any here shot one? :) i have

  • yes sure dream boy youve shottedd one ,,.... in youre dreams

  • thats a lot more simple than i thought

  • yea

  • @hondaridr: it's got the same mechanism as the gatling gun.

  • Cool!

  • thank you! I was designing a minigun in inventor (a CAD program) for an engineering class and this helped quite a bit!

  • Its a marvel of modern engineering, but god i would hate to see it if something jammed up

  • that's why you take proper care of miniguns.

  • Things happen, no matter how well taken care of something is

  • this mechanism can make a whole car in an hour or more lmao kool video

  • why does it need 6? it looked like it was only fireing out of one

  • each barrel travels along with the piston thing

  • done with 3dmax?

  • This is awesome!!!:D

  • you no how exact the timing must be

  • Yeah this was cool!

  • About the same as a car engine or any other piece of modern engineering, I'd imagine.

  • intressting °:°

  • now i get how it fires so fast

  • I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok, I sleep all night and I work all day!

  • Brilliant just make sure to use right ammunition lol

  • so thats how it works, takes a bullet, pushes it in a fires, then pulls out the case...

  • u tard its a GAU-8

  • Omg...who didn't noe dis is an idiot..not trying to be mean but yeah..just gotta think what it looks like inside like this lol...again , NOT trying to be mean lol

  • What happens if one of these jam?

  • it would proablly expolde...my guess of course...so if it did....RUUUUNNN!

  • you would be screwed.

  • Wrong.

  • That's the thing,they don't.

They just continue cycling them.Although sometimes if there is shortages in the links,it will stop for a second while it filters through them.Although, they are made to not have stoppages in them.

  • That... actually makes sense...

  • Gau-17

  • Thats not a minigun its GAU-8 or other but not a minigun

  • now i finally know it

  • so thats how the creation of the greatest machine gun works

  • ditto to afken12. im one of those freaks that's got to know how something works. ahhhhhh feel the power of knowledge!!

  • lol i olways thot that its some complicatet sistem in there :P

but it doesn't looks like :D

  • like a simple machine gun, this just has 6 tubes:D

  • well..

that happens like in HYPER MEGA ZUPER SAPER RAPPER ULTRA OMGWTFBBQ SPEED

  • y bbq

  • go watch arby'n'chief episodes lol

  • a stand

  • i still dont get it.

  • i finally know how a mini gun works....i kan now rest in peac
