I remember when all international matches between the U.S. and Russia looked like this. Pure war. These two attacked just about more than the entire free-style olympics under the new rules.
my coach wrestled with John Smith he lost 9-3... but he taught us alot of how john wrestles an boy did it help an yes its all about the basics just speed em up an your goinna do great
@darrenmillerz John is one of the greatest U.S. wrestlers ever. as demonstrated in this clip, he is very technically sound. and his Oklahoma State wrestlers are very well coached.
Two of the best of all time. Sergei wrestled at 125 so John had the weight advantage. I was at Sergei’s wrestling camp. His techniques worked well for me.
Would have liked to see Smith in one more Olympics. What a dominating athlete. I'd be curious to see stats on records over the past 20 years. Wondering if he was the most dominant in terms of won/loss and would also be curious to see point stats. For every point against, it seems like he would have 4-5 of his own.
Smith's phiosophy is based on defence. He holds that an excellent defence makes for a comfortable offence, and he's a great example. Watch the video of him vs Alexeev and vs the dude in the 2nd round 1992 Olympics. And his first NCAA title.
He is most famous for his offence, but I think it was only possible because of his outstanding defence.

That was awesome. 4:39, Beloglazov is so fast, wow. I wonder how much size was a factor?
Great match, and great class by two of the best ever.

For someone who made a career on offence, John Smith displayed excellent defence in this one. Good sportsmanship displayed by both athletes. Cheers.
