so that is 37k a year b4 taxes with overtime... I am starting college in a week and I am majoring in nursing. I want to be a travel nurse. Not sure if I will make enough money starting out as a nurse if cali has good pay compared to other states.
This is nut...nurses (RN) are way overpay. Take Alameda County, CA for example, half of the highest paid employees are RN, with most making over $200,000/ yr. This is a false debate...look at actually tax returns not some obscure statistic about average pay...ask them to show the number. RN, with all due respect to the shrinking number of nurses w/ a sense of decency, makes an obscene amount on the back of people who are at their most vulnerable points in life.
@starthi my mom was hospitilized twice last year and she was accompanied by a male nurse who was awesome! he made us feel comfotable with tons of "ghost" stories and pleasent words of encouragment. I personally think male nurses are awesome because they come with more patience and understanding, whereas a female nurse can be more 'attitudy!'
And no jobs? Really..based on what? maybe a lack of effort...my ex was hired in Los Angeles 9 days after she passed and was certified. Yeah theres def no jobs for new grads in a field that is 200,000 postions short and counting. please.
Um yeah..why is an Austin Texas nurse telling us about CA wages, and the information is WAY OFF on today's pay..geez does everyone get on here and try to educate people on something they apparently know nothing about?
Your numbers are way off....my daughter started at over $33.00/hr straight out of school and that was 4 yrs ago. Also, the avg shift in CA is only 8 hrs not 12. I have been a nurse for 38 yrs in CA and have not seen those low numbers in many yrs. The avg nurse in CA makes a 5 figure income
The compensation for RNs is all over the place; from high 20's/hr to 60+/hr in California. Some of the highest paying jobs are in University hospitals and state jobs (prison system). No matter where you go, experience and location are the two biggest factors. Generally, rural settings get paid less, urban settings more. Also, the info provided about overtime in this video is not true. Nurses have a special "work day" statute that allows up to 12 hrs, but the 40 hour work week still applies.
Uhhhh don't know where you got your info from but not all hospitals pay overtime after 8 hours!

Starting average salary for a CA new grad is $0 per hour. New grads have been tossed away like garbage.

starting salary for a CA new grad=$0 because nobody will hire a new grad.
as for the OT........most RN's are Union and the OT does not apply due to the contract.

no jobs for new nurses better to take another course

Katy, you are so WRONG! A nurse with 25yrs experience or more makes $60.00/hr to start, then if you are specialized, it goes up to $90.00/hr.
