For all you Ani haters and Bird lovers, Ani's Independent record label "Righteous Babe Records" signed Andrew where he reinvented himself as a solo indie artist from his earlier jazz roots. Ani and Andrew toured together and had great chemistry. When I saw Andrew Bird open for Ani years ago for the first time, I was floored. Ani is a rare talent. So is Andrew, and RBR won't sign "anyone." Since then, Andrew Bird took his wings and is exploring everything the music industry has to offer him!
Carpet munchers don't hold a trademark or patent on this middle-aged white guy's taste in tunes. It seems silly to have to be allowed to like this music. Identity politics will slap you from the wrong side eventually. I have unfortunate hair growth too, lucky me, I'm a guy.
Flawless performance. I love the subtleties. The harmonies, Mr. Bird of course. I also really identify with the lyrics of this song. In the world we live in it's very difficult to sift through misconceptions to find a place where we belong. And Ani takes that to an incredible and inspiring level.

That's all fine and good...maybe in a conversation or something. But, who wants to hear that song on a cd, ipod going to work, road trip, crafting? Not me. I'd be bummed to hear that song ever again. Andrew Bird was good, but what is the point? That song was boring and uncomfortable to me. I love Ani's earlier work and of course, Andrew Birds current work. Yes, bring the comments that have no soul. Whatever. You know it sucks, as much as I know it sucks.
It's funny that you berade me for being insensitive when you said I was like a 'fat person falling down'. Oh, and what if I WAS a troll. That would be really insensitive to the Trollinites. Shame on you. Shame.
I believe the word is berate not berade. also I don't think my post uses any word that remotely resembles "insensitive" dug the sarcasm at the end though :)
Ha! Correct, Sir! Berate. What a fabulous word. Insensitivity towards fat people to be sure, however, who doesn't love watching those videos. I'm glad you used the word 'troll' instead of others that are so commonly used these days. 'Trollop' and 'Hussy' are another of my favorites. Carry on in your love of political affirmations in your Sunday lounge music. I, most likely, will return to happier times.
but there is nothing he could ever do musically that will ever hold a candle to ani difranco. she is the super woman of indie folk music. simply. freakin. beautiful.
i can appreciate ani difranco's mesmerizing written poetry. however, andrew bird has a gorgeous sense of musical poetry..... can't help it, i love him more. "why?" is the sexiest song you will ever hear being played on a violin.
Ani, Andrew and the back up singer are ALL fabulous. I will bet, however, that most of the comments on this page are from men...or jealous women who do not want to give Ani her much due props. She's extremely talented...as are all on that stage.
Nothing Personal. And Not that I don't like Ani Difranco's voice. But I love her back up singer's voice. Its pure jazz. Anyone Know who she is? If so could you comment back and let me know... thanks so much.
No its you and your negative gloomy view on life. She is a creative and courageous artist with the drive and talent to make herself player in a very compettive field without the help of a major label. She is to be admired.
I like alote of artist who make it on their own....making it without a label doesn't equal creativity nor does going with a label make one uncreative...those are independent entities. Perhaps i sounded too harsh and just should have said that her music is not my cup of tea and her lyrics leave me uninspired with their lack of poetry.
she has 20 albums her lyrics range from brilliant to boring. Depends on which song out of the hundreds that you get. Ani (on the right cd.) can inspire me plenty.
