It doesn't matter who's been around longer at all, what matters is that they took two different paths because they had two different goals. The guy I was responding to said Em "sold out" but he didn't, it wasn't like that in the game back then, which was my point entirely.

I'm not huge on Eminem, but maybe you don't realize how different the rap game was back when he first was breaking out in the 90s, when the internet was still young and it really wasn't possible to make a living off rap on your own the way that guys like Atmosphere and Eyedea do/did. Em made his choice less about money and more about "I want to be a rapper" and at the time the best way to do that was to be on a label. Things have changed.

You don't know what you're talking about. Old Eminem was dope. Till I Collapse and the whole Marshall Mathers Lp was pretty ill. But he's fallen off. He's not the same rapper he used to be. He now makes songs for 14 year old kids, which is fine, whatever, but he isn't the king of anything.
