@girotube Just a guess: air in the cooling system is a possibility, as is a defunct water pump, bad thermostat (though it usually takes them longer than that to open, especially on these new engines where things run hot) or major internal malfunction. I'd check for air first, though.
@uxwbill Pump is 3 years old - Radiator is new - Fan R+Relay don't know - Fans are running - etc..
When I stop, the engine is fine and the radiator is not boiling or steaming. Could it be electrical problems I guess. It shoots up as if it was running dry burning up.. I took the thermo off and still.. Hope to get it right. Maybe the pump ? or it could be the panel is going bananas because when it rains? I see water inside by the driver's seat on the floor.
I have a 2003 and hit a car in the back. 4000euro of costs to the other car and on my voyager only a cracked bumber. Nobody even saw the crack but i did buy a new front bumber. So i gues they are more or les strong cars. mine is a diesel.
Yes, it was purchased new. I could do an interior view. Somewhere I've got a video of installing a new radio in it. I never got around to editing it and I can't find it now. Too many computers...
Must be something with your specific model pump going bad - I have one on my Aerostar V6 I installed in 2005 and it's still as tight as new. Last ReadyRad item I bought was good quality but right on the box - MEXICO.
The pumps we lost were all AutoZone parts, sold under their house brand. Only the radiator is a ReadyRad brand unit, and I'm sure it will be fine. We got it from a small independent radiator shop that has always been excellent to deal with.
The new pump came from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Hopefully it's better, but who knows? There was some difference in the way it was put together, so I'm hopeful...
All the pumps I've used have been AZ also, never a problem. It may be that your type pump has something to hit being built a certain way and the AZ pumps lack it? A lot of water pumps now are cheaper to make from scratch in China than to rebuild in the US, Canada and Mexico - if no core you can bet it's Chinese and your old one goes on the scrap pile to add to the weight when you take your iron and aluminum in. I have 4 drums and 4 front rotors from our Aerostars (93 pass & 96 cargo) for scrap
Many of the chain auto parts stores get their rebuilt and new items from the same sources as well, just have them boxed differently or over sticker them with their own label.
Yes, you sure did. The reel mower is actually a Great States brand, but I wouldn't discount its being made by the same people who made your Craftsman mower. I think it's still possible to get reel mowers new if you want one, and this one does work pretty well.
The snow thrower is "OK". The engine tends to suffer in the cold and doesn't like having snow thrown into it, which it does get from time to time. It seems like the ignition gets soaked and then it stalls.
I had 1990 dodge dynasty and the shaft bearing failed so badly that the pulley started to wobble and the serpentine belt jumped off. I lost the power steering, the alternator, everything. Got it to the mechanic and had them fix it. I wish I'd have done it myself though.
That's not a good deal. Hopefully it still went to the mechanic under its own power. I would also hope--if you were going to this yourself at some point--that it would be easier to work on than this van is.
My Jeep has 183k miles, and it looks like the original water pump, so I figure it could go any time. It's a straight 6, but it still looks like a pain to change.
Duct tape was used to hold some foam in place, nothing else. I'm not about to say that we did the best job possible, but in light of not having any service literature, we didn't do badly.
I figure that someday I might fix it. You know, when it's one hundred degrees in the shade and all that. Besides, it's not really harming anything just by sitting there and idling.
I'd like to get some training on working with air conditioning, as well as the equipment to do it right. It's something I really need to get moving on, as there are vehicles in my collection that I would like to fix the A/C on.
There was nothing in the system, it stopped working almost immediately after my mother hit a deer with the van. I suspect a tube shattered or got a pinhole in it, although it looks like the compressor shaft seal has failed.
If it does, I don't think it will be that bad to do. Not that I could blame it for being a little tired--this thing gets driven absolutely everywhere!
My 2000 Chrysler Grand Voyager SE Temp indicator is shooting up to Hi temp after running for 3 or 4 min. Any clues..?

Did you guys buy the van brand new in 2000? Are you going to do a walkthrough of it?

I spied a fine Craftsman reel mower and a MTD single stage snowthrower in your midst. I have the same.
That was a project and it sure was interesting.

Bill if you didn't plug the ac receiver dyer. Within 5 minuets it gets ruined by the air. So it MUST be replaced.
84hachi 2 years ago
The A/C is completely dead, as the compressor is bad. There was nothing in the system, except for air.
uxwbill 2 years ago
Well damn. Any chance of fixing that? If not. Why not take it out?

besides, isnt R134a more environmentally friendly than R12?
Ronsky89 2 years ago
When it was introduced, I think that was the idea. Now it seems that it is being suspected of contributing to global warming.
Alternatives to 134a are now being explored, although I don't know of anything else being used in current production cars.
Some of those "canned air" products use 134A as their working ingredient, but most choose difluoroethane instead.
