  • black nd endangered.

  • Meditation XVII by John Donne ... any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind ...

  • Everytime I hear, see or witness events like this it saddens me. Everytime I say to hell with it and try to act as though it doesn't matter I always come back to a major concern alongside disgust in my people. I honestly don't know and exact solution. I trully beleive that there is no hope unfortunately. BUT if there is a chance in hell of any hope it MUST be done through the youth. But how can you plant seeds of hope when the soil is damaged the nutrients are unhealthy and the water is poisoned.

  • You blame the cops instead of the criminals who can't ever get together for a party without violence...ever! Amazing you never see this at the St Patricks day parade!

  • @haywood16 i feel what your saying but its kind of racist's. some one getting shot in any race is stupid on any day..

  • @vsmokethon HUH?

  • @mcalis1980 It is obvious that you are not concerned about youth violence but have a need to talk about "Jazz", personal no doubt. Well, for all that are concerned one need only to google him and see his whole life instead of the snippets that creeps like you insist on publicizing. Get a life!

  • @AllThingsHarlem how is someone a creep when they are saying how wonderful it is that a man can come from where he has and become a great man that wants to help Harlem and its violence...it proves people change and deserve second chances...don't call me a creep...you don't know me or my views or what I have done for the youth....

  • Jesus is the solution to this problem.

  • Thanks for sharing that with us, I am sure that Jazz appreciates your observation, even though this piece is about youth violence in Harlem.

  • this man is saying that people were treating this like a film.he hears a bang

and grabs his camera???and he is saying black on black crime is terrible which any crime from 1 person to another is bad .or is he saying as long as it isnt

black on black its ok .maybe in future you shouldnt worry about grabbing your camera after all some 1 could be lying ouside dying from a gun injury

  • If you go to my website you will see that I am a videographer, I cover news and information in Harlem so that the community is informed about what is going on in the community. I also help senior citizens cross the streets and intervene when I see youth getting violent with one another. It is because of what I do that you have something to critique. Do you expect reporters from CNN, MSNBC, AND FOX NEWS to be anything but reporters?

  • so you are a reporter emmm??? i used to help out at the red cross .but despite the fact that dont like any news channel there is a big advantage in people doing what u do

  • My referance to money was related to the obvious poverty of our street youth. In a battle for the minds of these children framing the issue in terms of cost benefit analysis will resonate (sadly) more than right and wrong. Still, we need both, it is not an either or debate. Getting their attention is task.

  • Throw in hopelessness, the glamorization of crime and a thugged out lifestyle, opportunities of front doors that appeared to be locked for us but open for others..self hatred for being who you are combined with economic pressure and the peer pressure to succeed..can easily cloud the mind of a youth without the proper guidance caring for them to direct them in their lives. Combined with deliberate misinformation, you can only make a good decision on good information, that's why I hate "secrets".

  • That might be great to instill the value of money etc., but what about "morality", "dignity", respect for oneself and respect for the lives of others?

These dire times are acting like fuel on a already blazing fire..so much is get money, get money..at the same time immorality goes hand in hand with that same message it seems. Do whatever to make a dollar no matter what it takes..these thought processes can make you set your morals to the side. Just for the flee away from poverty.

  • Jazz you are so correct..this saddens me deeply. What has this world come to, not only for the act of violence in itself..but the reaction of the onlookers or the lack thereof? These are all side effects. Yes we are all responsible for our actions, but you cannot think your way out of a box without any new information.

I know people that start bank accounts for children almost at the age of 5, but yet the character in actions of the teachers morally is questionable. Such a focus on prosperity.

  • The reference to money in this piece was to raise the question of "Why" our youth engage in this type of behavior. Money is not it. Ignorance is the what is driving youth violence. We can attribute the ignorance to lack of parenting, peer pressure, etc., rap videos, movies....you name it.

  • solutions solutions solutions

most of these kids wouldn't be doing this if they had a decent alternative.

  • The economy is busted, schools in the inner cities are broken, the culture corrupts, they are throw away people, social junk---as far as the system is concerned.

  • We're not seeing each other as fam. I bet you won't knowingly let your son get caught up in a jam. We shouldn't let each other's get caught up either.

The stabbing this morning could have been prevented.

There needs to be a class taught on how to engage people and prevent violence.

Engagement is more important than youth facilities. They are meaningless if youth are just left to figure on their own.

Well not much for talk. Got to engage, starting with mine.

  • Jazz, I like the video; it is a start to address the youth issue which seems to be spiraling out of control. The new leadership in the community is coming from from older gents who are misleading our youth. the positive leadership in their lives is missing; peer pressure is looming. There is an answer and the answer is us. the onus of the youth problems lies with us; we have to correct it. As long as we remain disconnected from our youth, this kind of behavior will continue unabated!!!! Peace!

  • Listen, this problem is systemic. What happened that night on the streets of Harlem happens all over the country. We can take those kids in Harlem and drop them in Arizona and they would fit right in with their generation; same clothes, same language, same behavior. How did that happen? the culture, media. It is like HIV being spread through the music, videos, and movies. Think about it.

  • Sad indeed. The unfortunate part is that the issue is not new. We didn't pass on the elements of the civil rights struggle. So these kids don't know who they are, so they can't respect themselves. I don't know if there is an answer at this current moment, and it may have to get worse before it gets better.
