I think these are more trouble than they are worth, if you lose it or break it you can't log in and getting your account back will be very hard. The mobile application version is even more problematic, if your mobile device crashes or needs restored not even reloading the app will work. If this happens it's off to support to send your all your details and photo ID (amusing you have one!) to even hope to getting back into the game.
@doompants99 What if the mobile app based version needs reinstalled? Or the device suffers a crash and needs restored? Once reinstalled the apps serial code will be changed and you wont be able to log in to your account. Blizzard support will need a government issued photo ID, if you don't have one of these your even more buggerd. It's possible to get your account back but very bothersome.

hackers use these nowadays, aside from getting your password, they may change it, but on top of that they use one of these so you can't do crap. the ONLY way I know atm to take it off (i had it done to me once) is sit on blizz tech support for a good half an hour to an hour, and when you reach a live representative,tell them an authenticator has been put on your account and give them your Email and recovery question answer (so they know your the owner) and they will take it off and your g2g

When you try to login, WoW gives you a fake error of wrong authentication number, even if you put all the infos right, then the trojan/keylogger sends to the hacker the username,password,authentication number and the time.
The hacker instantly uses those infos on the wow site to change the password, while the real user was blocked by his hacked wow client to log-in.

I believe to add or remove it you need to add two subsequent numbers from the authenticator as well. I do not recall if I was asked to add the serial number or not.

Actually, it's not lost forever, quite simple to retrieve it actually. You can call the blizzard support and ask them to remove the authenticator, the only the bad thing is you might need to buy a new one.

The different Blizzard Authenticator number generators have been cracked. However, its not likely to greatly help with a stolen account, as the system locks you out before you can brute force the possible codes.
still very secure for one they only have seconds to use it on your account before it changes but they would also still need to know your pass pluse when ur account gets hack if u use credit card u just tell blizzard the card number and the account is back to being yours again
Yes they can be cracked. BUT. To do so you have to have the authenticator in your possession and log a series of numbers and time stamps in order to crack it. But then the crack will only do you good for the account that you had the authenticator for. So...... The crack is near useless.
The algorithm is pretty simple, lets say someone knew the time of this video and seen the number you showed, the algorithm is easily broken by anyone with such know how.
Infact, I seen a video on how to change the algorithm of your authenticator to match someone elses, but you have to crack it open.
The video also claimed there where no more then 50 algorithm's that have been sold and having two people with the same numbers all the time is far from impossible.

I would like to have more info on this. What happens if you break or loose it? Pretty sure you don't lose you account but will need to go trough a retrieval process.

Actually, it's not lost forever, quite simple to retrieve it actually. You can call the blizzard support and ask them to remove the authenticator, the only the bad thing is you might need to buy a new one.

i suddenly have a month playtime and i dident bought anything, i checked when it was purchased and it was today, and some hours ago i saw that my account was suspended for 3 hours, now isnt 3 hours much but if someone is on it i could get banned forever.
what can i do beside mailing?

The different Blizzard Authenticator number generators have been cracked. However, its not likely to greatly help with a stolen account, as the system locks you out before you can brute force the possible codes.

still very secure for one they only have seconds to use it on your account before it changes but they would also still need to know your pass pluse when ur account gets hack if u use credit card u just tell blizzard the card number and the account is back to being yours again

Yes they can be cracked. BUT. To do so you have to have the authenticator in your possession and log a series of numbers and time stamps in order to crack it. But then the crack will only do you good for the account that you had the authenticator for. So...... The crack is near useless.

The algorithm is pretty simple, lets say someone knew the time of this video and seen the number you showed, the algorithm is easily broken by anyone with such know how.
Infact, I seen a video on how to change the algorithm of your authenticator to match someone elses, but you have to crack it open.
The video also claimed there where no more then 50 algorithm's that have been sold and having two people with the same numbers all the time is far from impossible.
