Hi I have just bought a cintiq 12wx but I'm finding it really hard to get a solid black line in Photoshop with the paintbrush, it seems to be grey, how ever hard I press. Do you have any tips as to fix this? Thx
If you are a advanced artist, and you have the money,go for it.If you like plying around and your not going for artist career like situations, then just get a bamboo for 50-100$.Very cheap, works great.
@oscilis you can have (for example) in photoshop all the boxes for brushes/layes/history on the primary monitor and then just the file you are working on opened in the cintiq(yes i do own the 12wx model)
Yeah you can, only RTS and some RPGs though. Trying to play a FPS on a Cintiq or Wacom tablet doesn't work so well. You end up look up and spinning around really really fast and look retarded while doing so. :D
can u have both ur cintiq and ur moniter run at the same time what i mean is when u r drawing can other people watch u draw on one moniter while u draw on the cintiq?
Nice vid, what I was wondering: do you ever feel as if the 12" is not big enough?
Also do the lines show up instantly as you draw? it seems they do but I guess someone who actually has this neat thing could answer that one alot better :)
I think you said that I am "wasting" this "jewel" with my cartoons and that I do not deserve to have it. Well, not every person with artistic talent chooses to paint the Mona Lisa. Some very influential artists have been cartoonists. Some cartoonists have every bit of talent--if not more--that "realistic" artists have. I pour a lot of time, energy and devotion into my comic; you should think before deriding me because I can afford a nice tool on which to craft them.
It does get warm. It doesn't get AS warm as the Cintiq21UX. Oddly, my 12WX seems to get warm in certain spots...like right now, the lower-right-hand corner is the warmest part, while the middle remains pretty cool.
I've got so many questions but my main question would be is it possible to switch windows without having to press the "express key?" The reason I ask is that I would like to have the main monitor hold all of my tools palette and the canvas on the Cintiq. I have a MacBook Pro setup and I know you're on a PC. Anyway to bypass the "express key" tip would be greatly appreciated.
Well, you can use your mouse to navigate between screens, but that sort of defeats the purpose of using the pen, I think. You can only control one screen at a time with the pen, and you have to switch between them by pressing that ExpressKeys button. However--and I have not tried this--I think you can re-program one of the buttons on the pen to jump between your two monitors as well. Since all the buttons on the pen and Cintiq are re-programmable, that might be possible.
I just ordered mine thru Wacom! Yeah... I figured there's no work around. I may have to use the Intuos as a naviagation pad between monitors. Anyways this will save me lots of time between animation sequences. So have you yet done away with your keyboard and relied on the express key to do all your shortcut keys?
The ExpressKeys do a great deal of shortcutting...the only time I use my keyboard when drawing is when I need to resize something to a specific value. Anyway congrats on your purchase; I think you're gonna like it!
So is the converter box a GPU (graphics processor unit)? What I mean is that it's not connected to a grapics card or dependent on a PCI slot from the back of your computer, correct me I'm wrong? BTW thanks 4 posting & I'm planning to buy one!
The converter box IS connected to your graphics card via a DVI-to-DVI or DVI-to-VGA cable. You must have a graphics card that supports dual monitors if you wish to use the setup I show here.
Btw, I recently spent the weekend at my parents' house to show them the Cintiq, and their computer only supports one monitor at a time--the Cintiq was a joy to use as the sole monitor, too. The resolution is only 1280x800, but it's so crisp and clear that it's not an issue for me.
what exactly is that converter you got for the DVI, I can't find anything on Wacom's site. If you could help me with that info, I'd really love to use this set up for my work.
The converter box comes packaged with the Cintiq12WX; I don't know if they can be purchased separately, but there's a proprietary plug that runs from the Cintiq to the box, then from the box you plug in the power cord, USB cord, and DVI cable--though I should add that the Cintiq comes with a DVI-to-VGA cable so it is indeed compatible with VGA-only video cards. The box also has menu buttons on it that allow you to control the Cintiq's color, brightness, etc.
yeah....that is a quick sketch...but not a bad one :)

George, Don't worry about this guy. He's just pissed that Wacom doesn't let him pay for one in chickens, pigs, and goats.

If you're in the U.S.A., Google "Wacom eStore" and you'll find that Wacom has them for sale for $999.

Thanks SO much.
What you shot is exactly how I hope to set up. Also I love the brush tool in Flash as well - its how I do 99% of my 2D book illustration.
The Vivaldi and the kitty were a nice touch too.
Thanks again - you're too kind.
