This is lovely - I actually felt that the balance was favored toward the piano that covered the cello sometimes - perhaps he is just working too hard on a difficult piano - but oh the musicianship is lovely
A nice thought. I like the cellist, but the pianist is rather wayward and willful for my taste. The old piano has seen better days. It is a pity the piano sound is very hard - it does not suit the music.
@totophi On a second hearing it struck me as much better than the first time. The balance is rather in favour of the cello, which is very full and round in tone. So the sound of the piano, by contrast, is slightly thin and a bit forced in the fortes which should not be necessary. A very nice performance on the whole.
I heard Krainiev live in Hong Kong playing Scriabin and was rather disappointed. Everything seemed rushed.
try Debussy Piano Sonata, Oistrakh. Piano has lovely tone
RIP, Maestro. Your interpretations of Rachmaninov's second concerto and Shostakovich's first in Kiev were the best I ever heard in my entire life. I'm so sorry of not being able to hear you playing live again!
I am very thankful for those ten days recording travel Moscow, Tambov, Ivanovka
together in 1992 with the bbc staff. My best regards by the heart to all those who
are still there. From early in the morning till the night we had serious discussions, best music or have been jokeing and laughing the rest of the time in that small team. I keep Vladimir in my heart, remembering the small bunk bed in the train.
@dietmarmoews Dear Dietmar I am very happy to hear from you and would like to be in touch personally. We miss Vladimir very much and remember the happy time in Ivanovka. Do please let me know your email address and then we can make contact again. Thank you for your comment, which gave Karine and me much pleasure. Anthony
VLADIMIR KRAINEV (1944-2011), pupil of Heinrich Neuhaus and winner of 1970 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, passed away on April 29 after a long illness at Hannover (Germany), where he lived and teached.
Sincere condolences to his wife Tatiana Tarasova, the well-known figure skating coach of so many olympic gold medallists.
Professor Krainev, you are so wonderful! I miss you so terribly. Thinking about all the joy you have given with your music and speaking about music. I will cherish your comments on my playing for ever dearly. May you live on in the music!
R.iP , you were a great interpreter , your music traveled even to my country , i will never make music, i have no talent , but i know that your music will live in me
Thank you for posting this, it is quite stunningly beautiful. It's so sad to think that Rachmaninov was never able to see his own home again after leaving Russia.
Karine's playing is hypnotic in its beauty, the elegance of every note is described perfectly. There is a a quality to it that draws the listener in on a whistful journey.

Hmph, cynical indeed. "Very hard" is a gross exaggeration. Please indicate other YouTube performances where the piano is to your liking.

Yes, we're moving on. I keep him in my angel account, what ever
our fading is meaning to us. I'm sorry I changed C Minor and
G Minor but I swear I can distiguish. It was a lapsus in spoken broken.
I hope you are well and if you are still in contact over there it is fine.
Music and inspirated musicians are the stimulans of social living
and supports the daily necessary tropism we all need.
