  • hes smoking a joint! Good for him!

  • There is another interview aboard Hayden's barge in Paris at this website.

    worldwideweb

    .ina.fr/art-et-culture/cinema/video/I00011531/sterling-hayden-54-ans-a-reve-depuis-1956-d-une-peniche-amarree-a-paris-sur-la-seine.fr.html

  • A new DVD of "The Killing" has just been released that includes this interview in it's entirety running an extra 20 minutes or so.

  • inforgetable ! and one of many reasons always to remember the great broadcast that was "cinema cinemas" thanks for posting...

  • magnifique!

  • Back in the 80's this interview was done for french tv program "cinema/cinemas " mainly devoted to the Golden age of Hollywood fims and led by one of the top American Film & Rock Music Expert : Philippe Garnier

  • TRUE LEGEND ......Unfortunatly no more guys like him on screen & off screen ...I miss him ....oh yeah !

  • Got arrested with Mr. Hayden at a Civil Rights sit-in in San Francisco in '64. Cadillac Row sit-in on Van Ness. Great days.

    Good guy.

Compare him with the Hollywood pansies of today.

  • A remastered Blu Ray edition of Pharos Of Chaos AKA Leuchtturm Des Chaos will be released in the US, GB and Australia by the end of the year.

  • Great interview!

  • Sterling Hayden, I would have loved to hang out with him. He was the coolest dude in the world. He worked with Joan Crawford once, and this what he said about her, " I wouldn't work with her again for all the money in the world. And I love money!" Haha

  • What an honest man,a true actor.

  • THE MAN

  • could you please upload part 2? :(

  • `Voyage´ is a future classic , no hell, it IS a classic :READ IT !

  • With his "The Voyage"he wrote a book that equals Herman Melville.

  • @helmuthoorn Really? I have that book, but, I'm scared of reading it after Wanderer, in case it isn't as extraordinary...

  • @bigoceansvoyage

Welcome aboard on the floating hell "Neptunes Car".

  • sterling got a nice voice..

  • He wrote one hell of a novel, Voyage: A Novel of 1896. If you love reading and the sea, this is the book for you. A bare-knuckled, brawling, sprawling, profane, pungent, politically-incorrect tour de force.

  • What a fascinating interview of a wonderfully creative individual. A man of many talents (actor, writer, sailor, etc)! I had no idea that he spend the last part of his life up in the Bay Area! Dig that crazy goatee! Strictly from hipsville, daddy-o! He was quite the individualist.,..lived by his own rules & did things his own way. THANKS for sharing this informative & entertaing footage with us! :)

  • Sterling Hayden is the greatest cinema actor of every time!

  • Comment removed

  • No, Sterling died of Prostate Cancer in 1986, three years after this interview was filmed. Sterling was one of a kind- kind of a maverick- which is probably why he never became a superstar.

  • Il più grande attore cinematografico della storia del cinema!

  • Part two was here. I had both parts in my favourites. It's a shame it's gone. It's great.

  • Why is there no part 2?

  • This is really wonderful. Please upload part two. Maybe call it deux or something to fool whatever the tube-fools are deleting it for.

  • Where is part 2?

  • Hayden's house is in San Francisco, not Sausalito, which in Marin County, across the bay. I'd say it's easily worth a million-plus.

  • In the beginning of his book, "Wanderer," which I"m reading right now he describes his abode as being in Sausalito (Marin County) on the North end of the Golden Gate Bridge.

He also had other residences at the same time.... one was in Paris.

Which location are you speaking of? I don't know of a San Francisco home. How did you find it? And as for value, the ONLY residential house in San Francisco worth less than a million bucks is a tract home....

  • I used to think that any movie with Sterling Hayden was worth seeing at least once. Then I saw JOHNNY GUITAR.

  • part 2!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SH what a character, and for a guy who didn't "Know what he was doing".....a MORE than competent actor. He fell into the Class with the best of them.and STILL is in his OWN class..one in a Million. These Punk sissy boy actors TODAY waste My electricity!

  • WHERE IS PART FUCKING TWO? Great, honest man.

  • Does anyone know where I can get Pharos of Chaos the doc on Hayden's life made by German filmakers? Been looking for years

  • STERLING HAYDEN,Terrific! ran his OWN life..what a great/interesting actor with one of the most off-beat vocal qualities ever!

  • And he 'ran his own life' without being stupid, acting stupid, and living stupid.... as today's "leading" actors do. Look at Sean Penn.... a good actor. AND THATS ALL. His pretend 'tough guy' routine has worn really, really thin. But thats all he's got. Put him in a routine job, say construction, and he couldn't hack it. He'd wimper and whine and snivel. But Sterling Hayden had a rough working life.... his acting was a cake walk.... he didn't even like it.

  • Seems like an unfair assessment unless you actually know Sean Penn.

  • j2f125: Rather than challenge what I said, wouldn't it be easier for you to refute it if you knew anything about Sean Penn?

He lives near me. Among the stupidity the neighbors chatter about.... his jogging.... AFTER he sucks on his tobacco stick. Stupid, ignorant behavior.

  • Read his ''The Voyage''

The best maritime novel ever written.

Even better than Melville and Conrad.

  • Let them put up part 2

    What the fuck?

  • The first time I saw him with his scar... I thought "he is fantastic" I saw all his films. Great actor ! -Loved Sterling

    Hayden !

  • THIS is an actor!!

  • part 2?

  • Sorry - apparently YouTube has been deleting all my "part 2" videos.... Pretty nonsensical of them since they left all my "part ones" standing... I'll try and put them back on asap :)

  • This is great stuff, thank you so much for posting it!!! I said this in a comment on part 2 but I've been looking for the 1983 interview/ documentary about Hayden Leuchtturm des Chaos (Lighthouse of Chaos) for a long time now. This is the first similar interview I've come across, I only wish it was longer. Thank you for posting this!!!

  • great stuff, type in his name into google and read the paragraph from his book on his page in wikipaedia, truely extraordinary and inspirational.

  • One of the coolest video's on Youtube. Thanks for posting this.

  • He might have been drunk... seriously thanks so much for posting this. Sterling Hayden was an awesome dude, an even better writer then an actor. I wish I could have met him.

  • Looks like Mr Hayden got in a fender bender, lol. Gotta love people like him! Merci!
