@larewwedxhhh19 Microsoft had the money to tell the world their product existed and pay all the publications to write about it as the next big thing. You could ask the same for NeXT STEP too, that too was far ahead of anything Microsoft had at the time. Saying that though, if it was successful in its own right, we may not have Mac OS X today, as it's based on NeXT STEP when Apple bought them along with their CEO, a guy known as Steve Jobs lol.
Microsoft has no taste or creativity like BeOS, Mac OS X, or Linux. They will never have the efficiency and the amazingness of the Amiga... And it will never be free like Unix... MS sucks balls... They just suck...
@FredMayX2 If MS is so bad then why are they on top of the market and most user friendly... think about what you say with things that suck. I do get your point ofc, Mac OS X is graphicly amazing, but also amazingly expensive unfortionally. Linux is difficult to use for new people and isn't compatible with everything (YET), however it is free. beOS, i have no opinion and no right to say anything about it, cus i never used it. windows is easy to use on a cheap system and that = win and succes
@orcmisha they're on top of the market cause they threaten hardware and pc producer to raise licenses price for OEM if they install other OS on their machine. And also, Windows is user friendly cause perhaps you (like me) were born with a pc in your house. Some friends of mine used only MacOSX in their life and find Windows hard to use. Also, cheap system? Windows raise its hardware requirements almost every year (this is part of the agreement with hardware producer of course).
@orcmisha I would hardly call Windows "most user friendly". Microsoft is where it is today based largely on questionable business practice. They essentially stole what was at the time the Macintosh OS to create Windows 1, a poor copy, something they've been doing ever since. Then there's the contracts they had with OEM's, where they'd be paid per computer, not per install, so even if they ran another OS, they still got paid. Microsoft has a long history of genuinely evil business tactics.
@TalesOfWar You can't determine any OS to be user friendly, it's like calling another OS the "best". There is no such thing as the best because every OS has it's niche in the market, same way how some people would prefer Mac OS over Windows or vice versa because of how user friendly they are. Just depends on who buys them.
Wow, if I think back at those days... That was unimaginable if you'd never seen this os! But almost noone had ever heard from BeOS, unfortunately... :-( Me neither.
I would like to have an OS like this especially if it runs the BeOS 5 software on it. I am stuck with BeOS 5,0 which don't work with my printers and sound cards. The book was so large and I thought it may be important, but now I can't use it either and wonder it this OS will work on newer computers. PII processors are totally useless now on most OS'.
making changes without restarting was a huge advance for that time. Now imagine all a computer really can do, with a good OS, in these times. But, of course, MS only wants more money. Just think all they are hiding only because they don't want to make a better OS.
I liked BeOS, but it didn't have the drivers for my Then printer so I could not print anything. It did not recognize my wired connection so I could not get online either. I got the Be Bible along with the software and read some of it. It wasn't as technical as the Solaris book I have. Other than the problems I mentioned it was easy to figure out as soon as it was installed.
i used it many years ago. it was BeOS personal edition. ran that time just by clicking shortcut on desktop. Much better and more user friendly than linux.
I remembered doing a dual Boot BeOS R5 with Win 98 SE, BeOS kick 98 ass *HARD*, its fast as hell, even though I only got 600MHz Celeron and 32 MB RAM o_O.
Notice that BOTH movies continue playing smoothly even while the image is warped and bent as he moves the pages. For those old enough: that was pretty amazing for a machine without a super graphics card more than ten years ago..
So someone PLEASE explain to me why Windows 95 was so successful during all this when it couldn't even so ANY of these things.
