We do have small green pipe fish in grassy areas, and clinging onto weed that is drifting. -- I haven't had another look at your u tube photos, I will look,-- if you go "Dragon Search" in SA. you will see some of my pics from a few years ago.
@Graeme600 Do you have Stigmatopora Pipefish in your area? Very difficult to see them with the little dragons as so small. I first noticed on screen then went back in! Did you see other juvenile fish (tiny) in the utube? They are there. Seems most likely the WA group will eventually be declared separate species, finer less bulky shape to though colour does vary through the season/ with individuals too. Would love to see some of your shots from Tasmania to compare.
@Graeme600 Onya - your a sharp eye - they aren't pipehorses but juvenile Stigmatopora Pipefish hanging out with the little weedies. Blew me out when I first came across the association years ago and this turned out to be just one of a number of associations between little weedies and juveniles of other species. Have another squiz and you will see many of these frames contain other associated juveniles that in that stage become almost inseparable. Love em!
Thanks Mark for sharing your view of these mystical, endemic and beautiful fish . If only they were fully protected in Western Australia! They have their own facebook page now (weedy seadragons). Let's hope we can protect them before it is too late!
is this at the groin or on the other side at south cottesloe where the reef is?

I have been filming Seadragons for a number of years, but have never seen the Pipe fish on any in Tasmania.
The Seadragons here are also more red than the ones in the rest of Aust. maybe because their food is red.
