  • der spielt weltklasse!!!!!! der beste gitarrist der welt einfach wahnsinn

  • effortless!!! this guy is AMAZING

  • wonderful Joscho..!

    Bravo!

  • Does anyone know where I can find the original recording of this tune by Tchan Tchou Vidal?

  • Joscho > Stochelo.

  • why does it sound like the second note he its of the main line is a Gb and not G.... i'm very confused why he'd make that choice or whether i've become tone deaf :X

  • @GildedLiliesBand it's so perplexing!!?? Been had Gb??? i dont understand these germans who think they can play jazz manouche :X

    jkizzles

  • Haha, Joscho shows us how its done!

  • This gives me chills. Such great playing and what a tune!

  • Very Very good

  • that gutiar sounds wonderful, nice bass response

  • I find that many people like to argue about who is "better", as though being able to correctly identify the superior musician means somehow they are a superior listener. I find great satisfaction in listening to many different versions of songs by different artists and listening to how they put their own twist on the music. Enjoy it for what it is, and enjoy the individuality of each musician - the world would be a very boring place if everyone was the same.

  • amen!!!!

  • @gwippinz your words are profound and I'd love for your statement to be on just about every youtube video. I'm adding this to me favorite quotes on my facebook page. Cheers!

  • They're both great. There's no accounting for taste, as we all know. After all, some people think Jimmy Page is the greatest guitarist of all time!!!!???

To paraphrase Ricky Ricardo, "'splain THAT to me, Lucy."

  • He's more smooth than Angelo.

Angelo's anger is his way.I know he's abrupt, but that's the way he is.

Anyway they both play this song well.

Each & everyone of us can pick the version he likes better. That's all.

Happy New Year & keep the manouche legacy on the go!

  • Totally agree with you on this. Well said.

  • @lamiamano Well spoken!

  • je prefere la version de angelo debarre

  • A master at work.:)

  • angelo debarre's version is very mechanical. in addition, if you look at his expressions while he's playing he looks angry and pissed off. he never appears to enjoy what he's doing. personally, i don't like his style...he's like, "ok, i have to play for you knuckleheads, so here it goes." he needs to change his attitude.

  • i do prefer generally stephan's style to angelo's, too. but despite of this fact i think angelo's version of this song is played with much more feeling. i think the only really important thing when you listen to music is paying attention to the music and not watching if the musicians are doing well in making you feel loved by their sensual looks and general behaviour. if someone's looking for that kind of stuff i'm glad to tell that backstreet's back!

  • alright - these are just opinions nobody can judge. but furthermore i'm convinced that doing what a friend of mine once called a "blowjob-face" won't actually improve one's style. the best example to corroborate this thesis is segovia.

  • i totally disagree with you that angelo's version is better. he flies through it like it's a race to the finish. joscho plays it like it was intended...as a waltz. i don't know how you can say that angelo's version has more feeling. the middle part of joscho's is one of the sweetest barcarolle-esque sounds that i have heard in a long time. i don't necessarily watch the player's face. it was just a comment. in general angelo, no matter what he's playing, looks like mean and angry.

  • the only thing i can say (and repeat) about the first part of your comment is "de gustibus non disputandum est". it's absolutely not worth the time argueing about different styles. to the second part: angelo is coming to eat you! ;)

  • wtf?

  • Not necissarily a direct translation, but, "De gustibus non disputandum est" generally means our "Personal tastes are not to be disputed". And i agree, let's just sit back and enjoy :)

  • clearly it is ambiguous, as you have misconstrued the meaning?

  • Hey algorilla or whatever you call yerself,

"old fuckers" were around playing and listening to this stuff long before your daycare provider was putting your sorry ass to sleep with Barney videos! If Django were alive today HE'D be an "old fucker" P.S. One day you'll be an old fucker if you're smart enough to stay alive. Have fun with young idiots like you while you can cause you'll all be in diapers again before you know it!

  • clearly you have taken the phrase 'old fuckers' to be negative. what i am getting at is the lack of 'young idiots' watching you fucking whiney whingers. the shining intellect and incisive wit of the Americans strikes again - i guess you never can keep your noses out.

  • Your comment which I had responded to wasn't even remotely ambiguous. It sounded like a put down. Also, two things surface with shallow thinkers; profanity and knocking an entire group of people because of their race, color or country. Your two for two Adolph!

  • How Algorilla (hahaha) can say his single sentance is ambiguous is beyond me. He's on the backfoot because he's simply not very bright and is looking for excuse for his cowardly name calling. Easy to do from behaind a computer isnt it!

  • So right you are 6strings2hands. I just figured I had wasted enough energy on the guy. The only bad thing about youtube is the constant bickering. Sometimes hard to resist when people show massive ignorance.

  • Your right of course. How we are bickering over such wonderful music is crazy. Enjoy the music that people play, if you dont then why bother with an opinion. If its not for you "Old or Young" then say something worthy or not at all! Bye the way I consider myself young but respect my father and grandfather as people with more life experience than me!

  • why are they all old fuckers watching him?

  • Because they have good taste in music.

  • Well, Lagitane was composed By paul @tchan tchou@ Vidal in the sixties, it's not a Django composition

  • His technique is great, lots of clarity.

  • Joschko is a Killer! La gitane here, its almost as perfect as Chan Chou's!!!! So its super!

  • He is great; but I like Angelo Debarre's performance even better.

  • This is truly a fine performance of La Gitane as recorded by Tchan-Tchou Vidal and re-released on the 2006 album "Gypsy Jazz School." Regarding the previous poster's reference to Django, as far as I can tell he did not record this song. The closest to a Django version I can find is a TAB at a French wesite that is attributed to him.

    Others thoughts?

  • I'll bet ten bucks that Django Reinhart was tapping his feet in Guitar Heaven, with a big smile on his face. I sure did. Bravo!

  • Oh my god, I've just lost control of my bowels.

  • Holy Crap! I've been gobsmacked

  • with fingers i suppose :-)

  • lol

  • How can I play like that with no pick?

  • I was turned on to this style of music in Germany about 5 years ago in the Hamburg harbor aboard the lighthouse ship. They have open stage there every Monday. I am so hooked on this now. Great stuff and this guy is just amazing.

  • Master Of Jazz Manouche ! Joscho Powa!

  • this cat is the chit!

  • I love how music can be both technically dazzling, and beautifully melodic at the same time! He is truly a master!

  • its good to see more of them on here recently... their cd is nearly impossible to get ahold of.
