The Eagles did a good job originally, but she took it and sang it in such a way that it makes you UNDERSTAND what the song really means..just beautiful..
@zionsdtr It wasn't The Eagles who did "a good job originally" (sigh...) it was Don Henley. It was pretty clear the first time around, come on, it's not that hard, that's why it was such a hit. Covers should turn an original into something new, this didn't.
Example, Mario Winans "I Don't Wanna Know" covered by Florence Welch. Amazing original, cover? a new song. Check it out: /watch?v=8z5X9_3HCRQ
Never mind India, sing along Sade's "By Your Side" /watch?v=C8QJmI_V3j4 no lights, glass of wine
@hookedonjc2003 agreed, except she didn't write this one (that was Don Henley). India definitely knows how to pick a song to cover, though, and man, does she rock it!
I think that love is the root to forgiveness and understanding. Lets face it: WE ARE ALL HUMANS! We all have come short in many aspects of our lives, but when u love, you learn that your actions is the remedy that drives understanding and change. You do not have to broadcast that you have changed because if you have truly have done so your actions will speak for themselves. I had to come to grips that my perfect relationship was not so perfect. Yes, I am hurting, but love is not always perfect.
"The more I know, the less I understand. And all the things I thought I'd figured out, I have to learn again. I've been trying to get down to the heart of the matter, but my will gets weak, and my heart is so shattered, but I think it's about forgiveness, even if you don't love me anymore."
This is SO true. That's what it all comes down to, is forgiveness. We need to start forgiving each other more, before it's too late...
i broke up with my boyfriend two years ago... at tht time i was crying everyday and i found tht he betrayed me with my friend hearing this song,i learnt two most difficult things in this world forgive and forget. love makes us strong love makes us weak love makes us cry love makes us smile love hurts us sometimes love makes us happy anyway, love makes us grow
That song is how I feel about my ex right now. I'm sooo in love with him after all this time but he has moved on. I've been learning to live without him but I miss hime sometimes. It's hard to be in love with somone who you can't be with. But I'm trying to forgive myself for my wrong doings and him for his as well. I believe after loving someone like this you can only become better. This song is right on point! Love India!
True forgiveness requires true humility, the courage to let go move on and not look back, True forgivenss is not about rejection but is about letting go of all the pain and anger to be better, stronger and share deeper love with a heart of forgiveness ♥ .. that was truly beautiful
When you listen to the word of this song carefully, and you remember love one that you have to let go of because of variuos circumstances its hard. But we have to move on and thats how you will know if you have grown
I think it's fine if that's your opinion...I both respect and value your opinion though I disagree. But Henley himself said that Arie's version is better than his. =P
India Arie remade this song a few years ago. The first time I heard it was in my car, on a jazz station. I had to pull over, I couldn't see thru my own tears.
It takes Hollywood much too long to realise a truly great song and artist!!
Love her commentary at the end! I am related to a police officer who was just shot in the line of duty and her comments on forgiveness were very touching.
Nice video & great song I love India Arie. Forgiveness is all that matters but some times it's not that easy to do. You 've given me a new perspective though so thanks for this vid!!!
This is song is amazing. Her voice is so pure and meaningful. It touches my soul. May sound corny, but the truth is the truth. I've memorized the lyrics, even though I haven't even glanced at them. I've sung along, but I will never be like India Arie. She's amazing. Thank you for putting this on youtube.
i really love this song. i can totally relate to this song. its crazy because when you break up with someone that so you wrong you want to hate them and its hard to forgive them but you have to for your self
abrekutu - cant you appreciate more than one flavour of anything? Listen to the smoothness of this voice and let your emotions flow. She is a scribe and her version is like sharing wisdom and like sweet smooth water cascading over you. Dons is more the raw pain and that is beautiful too
Constavlos-some years ago, I heard some rap singer covering "Killing Me Softly," the song immortalized by Roberta Flack. It was the auditory equivalent of someone spraying grafitti on the Mona Lisa. Analogously, I cannot comprehend how anyone could prefer this singer's version to that of an immortal like Don Henley. However, I guess there's no accounting for tastes.
India arie? Who is she? To compare the version of some lowlife, no-talent singer to that of an immortal like Don Henly is both insulting and laughable.
this song is so powerful and i love the beat and the words have so much meaning this is one of her best songs this song is about holding on and having the strenth i love it soooo much
That was so powerful because it was so SIMPLE yet holding onto family and friends through the years can prove to be soooooooooo COMPLEX when the fairytales of childhood morph into the harsh realities of learning deep painful family secrets and being disappointed in others we call friends and family. But we are always fortunate whe we can... get to the heart of the matter! :)
This song has become the discription of my life, right now. I need someone to forgive me right now and I don't know how to get it through to them that I have changed. This song hits to the core of my heart. Thank you Don Henley and India Arie. Video is nicely done

LGBrown Thank you for this video.I loss my 15 year old nephew and watching the clips replacing them with ones of my nephew helped me to forgive his mom and myself for his death God Bless you and India Arie cause I've heard other artist renditions and today from your clips and her voice and GOD spirits I think I can finally forgive and peace will reign in my family starting with me. Bless you both.

Don Henley is probably my favorite performer on the planet.
I love his version, but this is an excellent version as well.
India Arie sings it in the same spirit that it was written.
There isn't the same amount of pain in the performance, but considering why it was written, and who it was written to, that's understandable.
