@Shade793 This is just a guess, but maybe because he can control it better. He can get the right sound out of playing that way. I am not sure, but there are many techniques to playing just one instrument. Like playing the violin. You have the bow, but you can use your fingers to pluck on the strings.
Wow, this is the best version I've heard of this song. Hisashi's songs are one of the few that seem to get better when a Jazz beat is added. And that's saying something, since he already writes some of the best traditional classical music ever.
@halovir hey there. there's his princess mononoke symphonic suite, bolero, new world 2006. But those are my opinions though. You should check his videos posted here by Nomyo and the rest. Just type Joe Hisaishi's name in and you'll find many. Good luck finding such other lovely pieces! :)
@halovir Ah... I have quite a few but my all-time favourite is definitely oriental wind. He's an awesome composer and actually, quite a numerous number of concert DVDs of his are sold online. I found some on ebay.com. You would be able to see the concert itself with better quality for the videos than of youtube I guess. Oh, more of his videos can be found... you could type in the movies or animes he composed for.
hee -sa-ee-shi (ひ さ い し) (the "a" and "i" are pronounced separately) and there is no stressed syllable... it's hard for native English speakers because all English words have one stressed syllable...
@k3nnyinab0x yeaaaah, I listen to Nujabes. I love his work for Samurai Champloo (such a great series) and also his collabs with people like Uyama Hiroto (very jazzy), Kenichiro Nishihara, Shing... And I was very sad when I heard of his death some months ago. But thank heavens I discovered his music. Thanks to him I have been able to discover the world of jazzy hip-hop from Japan or other places.
@SukoSeiti OMG sorry, that´s completely true... I committed a mistake with nationalities... Hisaishi is japanese, so I was thinking in "japanese, japanese..." and I messed up with things O_oUUU I specially love the erhu solo. Lovely ^3^

my new favourite song of hisaishi's. have not stopped playing it for the past like 48 hours :/ i admit it should be classified as a "bad habit" but i love to disagree. :P GOOOD HABIT listening to actual "music" not that poppy annoying stuff that blurts out your radio.
@OkeyXDokeyXArtechoky justin beiber can never be compared to Joe Hisaishi, even to the tip of the tiniest part of Joe's body...never in his wildest dreams!!! how could you just compare him to such a genius!! >:(
@OkeyXDokeyXArtechoky Did.. Did you just compare one of the greatest pianists in the world with some 12-year-old squeaky, pre-pubescent dickhead who needs to use heavy amounts of Auto tune in order to even HAVE a singing voice? I oughta throw my monitor right at your head.
@OkeyXDokeyXArtechoky This guy said "move over Justin Bieber". He never compared the two, guys. And rightly so, Justin Bieber, no offense, has nowhere near as much talent as this man.
In William Goldman's novel "The Princess Bride," the title "Wizard" is given to an artist so great that not even the title "Master" can begin to describe their incredible skill. Truly Hisaishi is a wizard of music.
Look at him - as soon as the song ends 5:30 he smiles like a fool cause he knows they just nailed it!
This song is awesome - excellent rhythm with almost no percussion, tons of powerful & unconventional chords - i think Mr. Hisaishi really loves this song because he keeps moving with it.
