O i feel ya. Ok i wuz wrong my bad. But yea see i like those old school songs too. I don't listen to the radio even though i like the songs, they play the same 20 all day and every day for a long time so i just buy albums and download the legal free music. But would be nice to get some diversity on the radio. Hear a little new, a little old. Only problem is that the people that did the authentic old school sht are retired and aint making new stuff. Cept for Common.
1) none of the old school artists are retired, just hushed by mainstream media. artists from old school still doing their shit: -KRS-One (drops an album every year) -Rakim (dropping this year) -Wu Tang (dropped in 2007) -The Roots (dropped in 2008) -Kool G Rap (dropped an EP in 2008) -Big Daddy Kane (features on A LOT of albums) -Percee P (dropped solo debut in 2007) -Jazzy Jeff (dropped in 2007) -Dead Prez (dropped in 2008) -DJ Premier (produces for all the underground cats) etc., etc., etc...
Papoose, Cassidy, Saigon, etc., who have been signed but are also having trouble with their labels are all dope but they aren't getting the pub they deserve.
and then there's the artists i particularly like who are expanding hip hop like crazy but getting no recognition and i don't expect they ever will (Saul Williams, Prefuse 73, DJ Shadow [OK, he got a little], Metaform, Clutchy Hopkins, RJD2, El-P, Aesop Rock [he got some too], etc.).
One song I particularly like from T.I.'s new album though is the song "You Aint Missing Nothing" type it in on google if you have time and read the lyrics over. They may be wrong but for the most part you would probobly understand it. Since he going to jail he did a song tellin all the people currently in to hang in there nd shit. And the beat is awsome. Has pianos, guitars, and cool sounding electronic sht.
alright man, and as i was saying, don't judge immediately. we're the type of people who tell it like it is. if we like something we like it, if we don't we don't. i was personally AMAZED by Lil Wayne (and yes, i recognize he has talent, he just doesn't try and he's arrogant as fuck) with songs like "Georgia... Bush", "Tie My Hands" and "Hustla Muzik" and "1000 Degrees" is kind of dope, plus i've heard a few cuts from TI that were OK, but 1) with my taste in music, personally, i don't like him...
anyways, point is, mainstream hip hop needs more diversity. more knowledge. it's cool that you like that shit, and it shows you are more open than i am. just recognize that the shit on the underground and old school shit has merit too, some more so than most, if not all the shit on the radio today. the corporate powers that be have a choke hold on what music goes into the average listener's ear. THAT my friend, is what my colleagues and i are fighting against.
Yea i have heard it. I do admit, Lil Wayne puts out a mixtape every hour or so, so A LOT of stuff is kinda just put together in like 10 seconds and just put up for FREE download just so it spreads around and people have some new shit to bump or to spin at clubs.
...and 2) most of his content is obviously not there for pure artistic purposes. i don't mind the occasional dance track either, but dance tracks today are so tasteless and bland it's ridiculous. if i want to listen to a decent dance track i either look to golden age hip hop (even a lot of that was quite crass and useless), hip hop infused R&B from the 90's or straight up oldies. btw, i'm HEAVILY influenced by John Coltrane. you into any other music? jazz? funk? rock & roll? classical?
So basically im just rambling about whats in the back of my mind. I dont really mean to insult your shit homie. Just pisses me off how no one takes into consideration and looks over A LOT of things and reasons as to why people like the hip-hop from nowadays.
though artists like Wayne and TI work harder than your average mainstream rapper, they still lack the essence that makes an artist to me. that essence is something that simply lies in one place: a large amount of their work is tailor made to make profit. it fits the mainstream "scheme" if you will. they see what sells and they make music off of what they feel fits that bill.
Yea dude i know what you talking about. I know most of mine are 4 too. But there are many many songs that do crazy awesome things with the beats even though i can tell they 4 and they sound surreal or just go hard and make you feel. And the the delivery is just sick. And especially when its T.I. because all the stuff he says is the absolute truth so when you hear it, it gives you chills from the fact that its all real life and shit you feel me?
i feel you, but i don't feel TI at all. this video was just messing around. yes, 90% of our members (and we are like 300 deep) hate Wayne, and that is why he is in here, but we actually have a few people that liked his old shit but hate his new shit and a few TI fans. i personally dislike TI and as a poetry student, who studies lyrics not just poetically, but from the context they are to be studied, i find TI's lyrics to be quite rudimentary and of little worth. same with MOST of Wayne's lyrics.
and FYI, our movement is simply one to get balance back on the airwaves. artists like Blu and Jay Electronica should be able to share radio and TV time with Wayne, Jeezy, TI, etc. that is all.
Dude.... its electronic... I doubt you do make your own beats because you cant change the damn pattern every 3 seconds or the beat would take months to make. And even though its repetitive people all around the world love it and it still sounds nice so....
dude fuck off !! suck a horses dick motherfucker !! people love it cause they hear it if u think the music business is based on pure talent then you need to shove a fat cock right up that ass mate ohh and stop acting like a coon you making all of us loo stupid
A fuck you dawg i know what its about. You pretty much saying all artists such as Lil Wayne have no talent and all that bullshit and that you are some sort of hip-hop god that knows everything when any other MC could prove you wrong and take you out.. Well fuck your life, If you feel so strongly then try to get signed and take weezy out. Despite what you low lives think, weezy has earned the respect of millions around the world. So doing your stupid movement is a waste of your sorry life.
once again, you have no fucking clue and i am not going to waste my time arguing with you. and you also don't get it with your other statement in response to mine about changing shit up. i personally can admit i still am at the beginning stages and am nothing compared to true artists, but i know exactly what i am talking about. yes, i know it is electronic. i make beats that have 5 counts, 3 counts, etc. you know what, why am i arguing?
crewkid i think you would change your mind about lil wayne if you heard his new rock single he's just put out. it sucks ass, imo lil wayne sucked all along anyway, though he did used to have a ghost writer.
And trust me im an unsigned musician too. I know what im talking about. I make my own beats and write my own rhymes so i analyze and criticize every single Rapper/MC/Singer and i eventualy come to like/ respect evryone one of them. Some more than others like T.I. for example. But yea every artist brings something different and even if its the same concept as other songs out there, its still something new if that makes any sense.
dude, i'm an MC/producer too and i can honestly say no hip hop producer/artist in the mainstream nor most in the underground is worthy of the title artist. no one can make music today like artists of before. the same old tired 4 count beats that go nowhere, the same drum patterns with a few change ups here and there, no tempo changes, blah blah blah. i've heard VERY FEW artists actually make music worthy of praise like, say, jazz artists of the 60's. once again, foh, you have no clue.
Hmmmmm.... Naaaaaaa see your another dude that dosent think. Look lil wayne nd them make club bangers that are to get down to. They not SUPPOSED to have a deep meaning or anything man. You really wanna party to a song that makes you question the meaning of life? No i dont think many people would. What do you think of T.I. eh? T.I. is my hero/idol and evry song by him is an instant classic. He is a well rounded artist and appeals to all tastes. If you dont like him you dont know what you sayin.
HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!!!!! Lil Wayne is WACK! i'm sorry bro, but you can't come in with moderate skill, not prove yourself and claim you are the best rapper alive. that is NOT hip hop. in hip hop you need to show and prove. therefore, Lil Wayne is basically the anti-hip hop! LOL!
i couldnt have said it better your 100% about that,by the way is this trigger the soldier? if so his fucking awesome iv been looking for places to where i can maybe download his music or remix my own with his anyway great vid
yeah, that's him. he has a new mixtape out. you can get a link to download it for free at myspace/realhiphopforever1520. just look around the page. it's there, but you may have to look around for a minute.
we're trying to really get our message across and get it out to everyone. we'd appreciate as much support as we can get so if you like what you see, the email i mentioned truly exists and that truly is the password. we would really appreciate if you re-uploaded it like i mentioned in the video. thanks bro.

2) i'm referring to new school cats who are dope but get silenced:
-Blu (23 years old, had his first album in 2007)
-Elzhi (in early 20's, dropped first album last year)
-Jay Electronica (31 years old, meaning younger than 50 Cent, is supposed to drop his debut this year)
-Termanology (26 years old, has several albums and a lot of Premo production)
-Joell Ortiz (in his thirties, was signed to Aftermath but didn't work out)
and then there's the dudes who are having trouble debuting...
