i want to spear fish so bad. i recently was given a spear gun, i want to use it, the problem is i live in saskatchewan canada aka no where near an ocean.
why is that sometimes I want to start doing this , I love freediving, the ocean.
I know that it is better killing and eating by urself than paying those companies that kill in mass and throw half away. But I dont want to start loving a sport that the objective is to kill. I know that the most natural thing etc,Im not against it, and it looks really fun, thats why i wanna do it...but I dont know if my concious will be ok with that..help me thats the reason why im in medicine, to preserve life

@hansices bloody tree hugger of corse they didn't kill any sharks they are spearfishing and there is that many sharks in the ocean it wouldn't make a difference. :(

@ExopMan 0BAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sharks endangered?????? hell no ive been diving for 3 years and have come up on PLENTY of sharks and they didnt spear it they just bumped him to show aggresivness
@ExopMan LOL what are you yelling about? Who spears sharks? Most of us like seeing sharks, until they get cheeky, then we just move on somewhere else.
man you have the balls to go down there man :Di am twelve years old and i am a spearfisher diving in 10 metres maximum the biggest fish i ever caught was 3 k xD
i went pole spearing just the other week and what do you think i found?a spear gun out of the ordinary.very nice.tomorrow im going to try and shoot something :3
I've only been spearfishing once I'm 15y.o I'm not scared of sharks , marlin is a GREAT fish to eat not so sure about parrot fish but I'm a scuba diver not free diver I got certified when I was 10 and been diving and lobstering since.
Cool video but why shoot the parrotfish and marlin? The parrotfish eats coral and will make you sick and the marlin is just a game fish, no food value,
@nedla15 Some fish are ok in parts of the world and not in others. Barracuda is an example. It depends on what they are eating in the area. And marlin is delicious. I've eaten it at a restaurant, and if I ever catch one, I am going to eat the hell out of it. It said at the beginning that all the fish were eaten. They didn't say whether it made them sick, but I'm assuming they didn't.
@nedla15 what? seriously? marlin is one of the best eating fish out there! parrotfish tho is apparently edible if prepared properly and the right species...
@jeremyrules2 ehm, I spearfish myself and its not easy, you have to train and practise for it. most fishes are not stupid enought to swin right towards you when you swin under water. you got no lay still and pratice in holding your breath and aiming.
@jeremyrules2 Have you spearfished? It isn't as extremely productive as it is made out to be in videos that people post. They aren't going to post the ones of them searching a reef and coming up empty handed for three hours. Furthermore, do you eat beef? Chicken? Do you hook and line fish?
Sorry pal but it's not that easy. Plus, it's not a joke. I would like to see you trying to catch a nice fish plus swimming with sharks as big as those.
today was my first time snorkel diving but I couldn't make it past the rocks because I was a little scared...do you guys float easily when on surface?
Like someone who can't spell buoyant or neutrally? Or use the correct contraction you're meaning you are instead of the possessive your? I think I understand. You've been a tremendous help. Thanks.
Where were these shots taken? I want to try spear fishing for the first time, I live in Hawaii and have all the materials necessary, any tips or pointers i should know?
Just some tips. Never try spearfishing with tank without taking the diving course. Try to not kill any fish that you are not going to eat. Aim for the head of the fish. Don't touch fire corals, in Hawaii there are some species that hurts a lot : ). Never shot a shark, if you have no experience with shark they could bite you and never alow one to get near you, if they get near , poke them with the spear. Everything else is practice.
your all gumbies, it depends on how thick ur wetsuit is, and how bouyant your body is, u want to weight yourself so that ur nuetrally bouyant under the water surface for shallow wat diving eg 20 metres
your all gumbies, it depends on how thick ur wetsuit is, and how bouyant your body is, u want to weight yourself so that ur nuetrally bouyant under the water surface for shallow wat diving eg 20 metres
@xosyer Freediving in general, you don't want too much weight. If you descend on your own with empty lungs it is too much, because if you blacked out you would sink, which is obviously bad.
@xosyer The further down you go, the less weight you should need. Once you pass 66 feet (I think) you go into a descent phase wherein you sink without kicking.
@emannuel321 thanks for the answer...I usually go down on my own and I want to descent without much effort cause I lose a lot of energy descending. I want to try a weight belt and I would like to know the average weight needed to dive from 10 to 14 meters proximately...I'm from Dominican Republic and spearfishers don't use much gear...Lol
@xosyer The average would probably be based on the average person. So many variables relate to your body composition due to the fact that muscle, fat, bone, etc. all have different densities. And your wetsuit, if you wear one, has a big effect. But the short answer for someone living in the tropics that doesn't use a 5mm wetsuit is not much. I don't use any, personally, but I'm a sinker. If you are diving with proper form it shouldn't be too hard to get down.
@xosyer i wear a 1.5mm omer suit ( i live in the caribbean ) and for diving about 50 feet i use like 4 pounds and i weigh 135 pounds you have to go from a small amount of weight and and keep adding if you need ,once u find the right amount of weight then use that what i do is if i float up from like 15 feet or so then i find that sufficient weight hope this helps
@gunna1997 I use my cock as a spear but I don't spear actual fish. I spear the tuna dungeons of teen-like girls who need a few bucks. I once stabbed the halibut hole of some girl who started her period. That was a bloody mess, LOL! Hey, since we're talking, is the clear stuff that comes out of your cock before you cum sperm or is it something else? Nice chattin with ya!
Hey, dude epic video but at 3:25 i thought you were gonna drown because you were kinda struggling can you tell me if you were really drowing or you just had a fish and it was hard to get the fish to stop wiggling but anyways epic video
That's a great video. Nice shots, nice fish and most importantly; responsible, sustainable fishing. Thanks for not shooting the sharks... Quite impressive!
LOVE your video and music selection. I love my GoPro Camera too. Check out my videos on yourtube too as I wear my Go Pro on my head for hand free filming. Also have video on vimeo titled Key West Adventure 2010.
Parrot fish eat rocks and coral and produce much of the world's sand... I'd say they're pretty important. Without human interference, there coral intake would be balanced with coral growth, but given the depletion or corals due to human impact, I'm ok with shooting one. The marlin is just rediculous. Considering the rate at which their numbers are dropping and their importance in the food chain, I'd like to think people would be satisfied by the experience of swimming with them.
@emannuel321 and thats beacause of commerical fishing of them, by commerical fishing boats setting lines 3 miles long with a hook every 100 metres or so, not two guys spear fishing one of them !
@lifesaverkid I've never heard of longlining for Marlin. Where do they do that? In the states? Commercial fishermen definitely catch more fish than I do, Marlin or otherwise. That or they're spending much more money than they're making.
@dylpik27 And all fish are important, largely due to their food value, be it for people or other fish. What do we need more sand for? There probably is a real need for it, but I think I would rather have coral at this point.
@dylpik27 where are you from? Alabama? Ohio? You are rediculous. Please dont talk about something that YOU dont understand. Go swim with a marlin and see how long you last.
@kimkemay I don't know the situation where this video took place, but it is probably legal there, they probably taste good, and parrot fish are known eaters of coral. Said coral takes a lot of time to grow to a decent size, and each parrot fish eats an obscene amount, and parrot fish are far from rare.
I have been scuba diving since 1960's..and freediving. Check out Terry Maas at freedive.net This video may have taken place in Australia..per "Mulloway" ..I like the video..I heard different views on the parrot fish. It's def. not legal in the US except HI. Fiji and other places fry it. Some say great, others, nay. Did read a precaution on ciguatera from fishbase.org. It's just so SMALL! Why bother! :) Before you shoot..you have to remember everything looks bigger underwater! Thanks E
@kimkemay Your size point depends on the distance from the camera. Based on the length of a typical spear shaft and comparing the length of the fish to it, I would say the fish was well over twelve inches long, and due to the girth of a parrot fish in relation to its length, I would say that one was definitely a meal for at least one person. I have seen parrot fish that I know weighed at least five pounds. Don't know what you consider big enough though.
Considering the fact that the poster ate the marlin, can any of those people who opposed it give a reason why it is such a big problem? I am having a hard time figuring out why a marlin's life (or a person's for that matter) is worth so much more than a chicken's. And the fact that they are pretty doesn't count.
@TheWhiteGangster635 no only certain species and different rules apply for spearfishing and in different states and from what ppl have been saying he didnt so......shoosh rand
@MrBoomudead Under 16 you don't need a fishing license, but you still have to adhere to the list of fish that are not allowed to be spearfished under the 'Spearing' regulations here in Florida
@victoriaskimboardII You are aware that all these fish probably weren't shot on the same trip, correct? Also, even if they were, people often freeze fish for later when they can only get out once in a blue moon, like most of the population.
@jassyfit What is this a response too? I don't recall suggesting shark shooting. I did say that nobody in the video shot a shark. Is that what you are referring to?
@MrRunescapefullrune Well, MrRunescapefullrune, if that is your real name, I believe you are incorrect. And as you could probably tell by the idiotic number of posts I've made, I've seen the clip several times. This is pretty much the only debate on youtube I have any involvement in.

Parrot fish eat rocks and coral and produce much of the world's sand... I'd say they're pretty important. Without human interference, there coral intake would be balanced with coral growth, but given the depletion or corals due to human impact, I'm ok with shooting one. The marlin is just rediculous. Considering the rate at which their numbers are dropping and their importance in the food chain, I'd like to think people would be satisfied by the experience of swimming with them.
dylpik27 11 months ago
@dylpik27 At what rate are the marlin numbers dropping?
emannuel321 11 months ago
@emannuel321 and thats beacause of commerical fishing of them, by commerical fishing boats setting lines 3 miles long with a hook every 100 metres or so, not two guys spear fishing one of them !
lifesaverkid 11 months ago
@lifesaverkid I've never heard of longlining for Marlin. Where do they do that? In the states? Commercial fishermen definitely catch more fish than I do, Marlin or otherwise. That or they're spending much more money than they're making.
emannuel321 11 months ago
@dylpik27 And all fish are important, largely due to their food value, be it for people or other fish. What do we need more sand for? There probably is a real need for it, but I think I would rather have coral at this point.
emannuel321 11 months ago
@dylpik27 where are you from? Alabama? Ohio? You are rediculous. Please dont talk about something that YOU dont understand. Go swim with a marlin and see how long you last.

Why shoot a tropical parrot fish?
kimkemay 1 year ago
@kimkemay I don't know the situation where this video took place, but it is probably legal there, they probably taste good, and parrot fish are known eaters of coral. Said coral takes a lot of time to grow to a decent size, and each parrot fish eats an obscene amount, and parrot fish are far from rare.
emannuel321 1 year ago
I have been scuba diving since 1960's..and freediving. Check out Terry Maas at freedive.net This video may have taken place in Australia..per "Mulloway" ..I like the video..I heard different views on the parrot fish. It's def. not legal in the US except HI. Fiji and other places fry it. Some say great, others, nay. Did read a precaution on ciguatera from fishbase.org. It's just so SMALL! Why bother! :) Before you shoot..you have to remember everything looks bigger underwater! Thanks E
kimkemay 11 months ago
@kimkemay Your size point depends on the distance from the camera. Based on the length of a typical spear shaft and comparing the length of the fish to it, I would say the fish was well over twelve inches long, and due to the girth of a parrot fish in relation to its length, I would say that one was definitely a meal for at least one person. I have seen parrot fish that I know weighed at least five pounds. Don't know what you consider big enough though.

I love Spearfishing!!!!

Considering the fact that the poster ate the marlin, can any of those people who opposed it give a reason why it is such a big problem? I am having a hard time figuring out why a marlin's life (or a person's for that matter) is worth so much more than a chicken's. And the fact that they are pretty doesn't count.

Does any1 by chance know how old you have to be to spearfishing in florida, and if you need a permit how to get it?
MrBoomudead 1 year ago
@MrBoomudead Under 16 you don't need a fishing license, but you still have to adhere to the list of fish that are not allowed to be spearfished under the 'Spearing' regulations here in Florida

victoriaskimboardII 1 year ago
@victoriaskimboardII You are aware that all these fish probably weren't shot on the same trip, correct? Also, even if they were, people often freeze fish for later when they can only get out once in a blue moon, like most of the population.

@emannuel321 2:20 pretty sure he did
hughesbf 11 months ago
@hughesbf He didn't. If you look again, the spear is still in the gun and the bands are in place. He startled it, maybe touched it with the point.

@hughesbf if you look the spear didnt leave the speargun so how could he have shot it?

@MrRunescapefullrune Well, MrRunescapefullrune, if that is your real name, I believe you are incorrect. And as you could probably tell by the idiotic number of posts I've made, I've seen the clip several times. This is pretty much the only debate on youtube I have any involvement in.
