This is why access based lobbying will not work on controversial issues. They are afraid to cross the Chamber of Commerce who think Open Carry will "make the state look backward" or too afraid to hack off other voters.
Only political pain gets there attention. My group walked in the capitol yesterday, sat down with politicians that we had hammered with robo calls and were listened to. About three quarters agreed that a compromise would get their vote on our issue, a tiny compromise.
Beginning at 5:47, Martin said the Oklahoma Constitution requires the legislature to regulate the carrying of arms in Oklahoma. This is not true. The Oklahoma Constitution says that nothing in the constitution shall prevent the legislature from regulating the carrying of arms. First, the regulation is not required, and second, regulation IS NOT POWER TO PROHIBIT! Posted by Bruce Wood
71.86% of all Americans live in a state where open carry is legal in some form. 43 states where open carry is generally allowed, only 14 states require a permits. Of the 28 states that allow unlicensed open carry, only one has an age requirement greater than 18 years of age (New Mexico). Of the 28 states that don't require a license, 20 have laws that define the statutory age limit as 18 years or older. That's 40% of U.S. states and 33.73% of the U.S. population, just for laws similar to SB129.
We've had open carry here in AZ for eons, and nary a problem. Give the people their rights back!
