  • Good job mate I will use your recipe thanks for the upload

  • Potjie is pronounced poikie? Wonderful recipe. Thanks

  • @1fanger - You are correct. Potjie refers to the pot we use on the open fire. Cast iron pot.

What is more important is the meal inside the pot and the company you share this with - dont forget the red wine :)

  • Thats like a beef stew, looks great.

  • @TheSonofthunder7 Yes, a stew indeed, just done on an open fire.

  • you south Africa????and you moved 2 England?? you got a strong British accent im also south africa and also moved 2 london

  • I think it is best to do the oxtail in a slow cooker for a few hours before starting the potjie. Certain meats are just tough.

  • Hendrik,

I tried your recipe, and it was a moerse success! Only I used oxtail and after 4 and a half hours of potjie, it was still tough. Did I get the wrong tail or what? Overall delicious!!!!

  • Geat exibition. i am going to try your recipe, and as a Boertjie that has never cooked his own Potjie, you will be judged by it! I dont know waht is worst, being judged or the fact that I have never made a potjie. Hey, I live in America, and I am spoiled!!

  • Hello Heindrik,

I am South African as well, and I also live in the UK, well Southampton actually. It's nice here isn't it ? I guess. What capacity is your potjie pot ?

    Tim

  • Good job...

  • Lekker!! Groot poitjie. Ek moet hierdie naweek 'n

  • @highig69er Thanks, sal so maak.

  • @Bokbebliksem sjoe nee, klink interesant, wa kry mens volstuis vleis?

  • @highig69er Hang af waar in SA jy is.

  • How many bottles of wine were consumed during this cooking session? You look rather "relaxed" for lack of a better way of describing it. ;-)

  • @pkdiddy It takes an afternoon to cook...so the "melowness" is a result of sharing a good few bottles with your friends.

  • whats with the funeral music boet?

  • @wildpala No, its just background music. Nobody died :)

  • Konings kos my maat!

  • @wikusdp LOL

  • Hi Hendrik . please help me out here.

What happened to the Oxtail you showed as an ingredient. you never mentioned when to put it it. Can I assume it goes in with the rump steak. ?

Would red wine be okay as well? And some more roughly cut veggies ? Would that go down all right ?

  • All the meat goes in at the same time. Yes, red wine should give it a nice flavour with the red meat. The veggies will give it nice texture. Be creative! Follow your heart and improve on the recipe as you go along. It's fun, enjoy it.

  • @hendrikfreeke i put some sherry in, unbelievable taste

Thanks a lot.

  • Great vid, what size of potjie do you use, how many would it feed roughly. I'm thinking it might be a good investment for our fishing club

  • Johnny, I used no 3 potjie, and it should feed about 8 very hungry fishermen. You should use some rice or similar to bulk it out.

    Good luck, its fun.

  • Dankie Deelman. Dis my ouma se resep en almal hier in die UK is mal daaroor. Geniet dit.

  • Dankie Hendrik! (Ek is 'n laerskool onderwyser). Terloops: baie goed geredigeer!

  • Its times like these that I miss home. I will return someday. Cheers Hendrik. Thank you for the experience bro. Hope you upload more videos soon. Cheers from Cyprus.

  • Well done Hendrik, I use my potjie all the time wile camping in australia. The recipie you have shown sounds fantastic and the passion for what you have used as outstanding.

  • Hendrik, I'm watching from Taiwan and my mouth is watering!! Dit lyk watertand lekker!!

  • The fun is in the time it takes to cook. Geniet dit!

  • Hmmmmmmm.....

  • I soak it with Fairy soap for a day, then give the pot a scrub with wire brush. Dry pot, then coat whole pot (inside and out) with normal cooking oil. Place on wax paper in pantry.

  • Where did u get d packaged oxtail and how much were they? I usually get mine from Dalston mkt and it's so expensive now.

  • Buy mine at Waitrose, £10 a packet....expensive but nice.

  • I used no 3 potjie...use lots of time and layer ingredients as discribed. The wine helps as well. Enjoy

  • ja boet soo gaan dit ,what number pot you got?and what advise you got for me as I want to attemp this for first time before i make a flop, cheers from downunder

  • Jam and orange juice veg and beef !!! ...WOW
