I am Native American and the Tunkasila Wakan Tanka aka Great Spirit is specific to the Lakota tribe and not for all natives. He is not god and they do not consider him god. We don't have religion and we don't have a god or gods. All this great spirit stuff was made up by christians who tried to link our beliefs to theirs in attempts to convert us. We may refer to a creator but how many depends on the nation's beliefs. Mine has only one creator. We don't worship this one either.

If some Native American peoples such as the tribe you are originally from refer to a creator or creators, then what relationship does this creator have with the tribe if it is not seen as a sort of God and is not worshipped. In short, what is the creator's purpose, if there is one?
@slaphaddalztick Well, as I said we do not worship our Creator. In my tribe we are simply saying thank you to him for everything we have been given. But Mu'kat (how we call our Creator) does not influence our way of living or thinking unlike other religions. Our spirituality again is something completely different. It has nothing to do with Mu'kat.
@Innkaris But surely, if you believe that everything that you have has been given to you by Mu'kat, and you are grateful to him, then by treating nature and other human beings with respect, and trying as best you can to live good, wholesome lives, you are in a sense upholding the virtues your creator expects of you, and so to say that Mu'kat has no influence on your way of living or thinking cannot be true, otherwise, what is the point in believing in a creator in the first place.
@slaphaddalztick No, that's actually the difference between our spirituality and other people's religion. We do not believe that Mu'kat is still around like an immortal god. As a matter of fact, according to our creation story he actually got killed by animals and the people of our tribe, lol. He was the one giving us this land, but he was not good minded at all. That's why we do not worship him or anything, but we respect everything that has been given to us.
@Innkaris okay, I'm beginning to understand. People had similar sorts of beliefs before the onset of Christianity, which, being monotheistic, treated all other beliefs and religions as barbaric and almost sub- human.. That is one reason, though not the only one, why the early American European settlers way of life and beliefs were so incompatible with those of your own ancestors. Whilst I'm certainly not blaming Christianity for all of the world's ills, it certainly has a lot to answer for.

They were called Indians because the Spanish had tried to go to India via the Atlantic route rather than taking the long trip around Africa. I am Native American and the Tunkasila Wakan Tanka aka Great Spirit is specific to the Lakota tribe and not for all natives. He is not god and they do not consider him god. We don't have religion and we don't have a god or gods. All this great spirit stuff was made up by christians who tried to link our beliefs to theirs in attempts to convert us. We may refer to a creator but how many depends on the nation's beliefs. Mine has only one creator. We don't worship this one either.

But Mu'kat (how we call our Creator) does not influence our way of living or thinking unlike other religions. Our spirituality again is something completely different. It has nothing to do with Mu'kat.

@Innkaris But surely, if you believe that everything that you have has been given to you by Mu'kat, and you are grateful to him, then by treating nature and other human beings with respect, and trying as best you can to live good, wholesome lives, you are in a sense upholding the virtues your creator expects of you, and so to say that Mu'kat has no influence on your way of living or thinking cannot be true, otherwise, what is the point in believing in a creator in the first place.

As a matter of fact, according to our creation story he actually got killed by animals and the people of our tribe, lol. He was the one giving us this land, but he was not good minded at all. That's why we do not worship him or anything, but we respect everything that has been given to us.

People had similar sorts of beliefs before the onset of Christianity, which, being monotheistic, treated all other beliefs and religions as barbaric and almost sub- human.. That is one reason, though not the only one, why the early American European settlers way of life and beliefs were so incompatible with those of your own ancestors. Whilst I'm certainly not blaming Christianity for all of the world's ills, it certainly has a lot to answer for.

They were called Indians because the Spanish had tried to go to India via the Atlantic route rather than taking the long trip around Africa. when we look the hole issue about race,and what happened here in usa ,its just a bad experience all the ancestres had to go throught,in order to develope our spirit ,not justifiging the killins ,but lerning from mistakes we are still paying hight prices everywere,land dosnt belonge to anybody,we are here as visitors walking and taking everything as granted,....we need to learn alot more ,to underentand what is love compation ,respet,union....

I am American and I wish back for the strength and unity of the Iroquois Nations and the other tribes that long belonged as one to this lovely continent.
If we hadn't been so ignorant and showed enough respect for the Native American culture our land wuldn't be ruled by money, but by humans!

All of you who argue race. You are fools. There are only corrupted mind sets, not skin colors. We are all Human at heart, we are all Human in blood. Arguing amongst ourselves for ignorant and petty reasons is an insult to our creation. We should be united as a people of Earth, but instead we are divided as confused and lost people. This generation should be the one to make this happen, but I do not expect any great miracles from anything. We must prove t ourselves that we are worth it.

After moving to North America I find myself loosing my humanity. No act of mine for I have done no one wrong, just being surrounded by whites who are beast at heart only poising to be human like is causing me to loose my humanity. White people are animals in human like bodies. Can some race wipe white people off the face of the earth and make this a better place to live?

@TheWhiteBuster It wouldnt matter even if the white race was gone, there would still be crude and intelligent people. To say that about a single race for an individuals crude behavior is unjust and close-minded because if you were to look around the world, you would find many people who are educated and uneducated. The world has been plagued by racism long enough lets end it here and now. May peace be with you my friend, best wishes :)

@visionified White people are full of resentments for non whites over very little things too. Their forefathers were savages and whites till today are savages too. It's only the law that is keeping them in check. Whites are the only ones to have organized hate groups.

@TheWhiteBuster My friend i am white but I hold no quarrel with you, I hold no resentment towards any race. I was raised with the ideal that you dont judge a person by the color of their skin but the character of the person. I work with many people of different ethnicites and I treat them as though they are my brothers/sisters because in a since we are all brothers and sisters so whats the point in fighting just because someone looks different. @TheWhiteBuster Ths post makes me so sad. There is no fully evil race, in fact if you listen to scientists there are no races whatsoever. And if you believe in God or gods, most religions believe that all people came from the same beginings and are of the same blood. Yes, North Americans have many flaws and our society seems to be hitting a dark ages, so to speak, but all "Whites" are not evil. There is much good in the nation, I have seen it first hand and lately I've been noticing quite a bit.

@TheWhiteBuster i don't know what your family has tought you, but of one the most hated tribes by whites i have learned one thing. I am Sioux and my people did kill white..but white skin has no special bad medicine that causes them to be animals. I have learned from my people, that its the souls of the man that causes the evil, not the skin....I am half Siox half Irish, I do go to a public school as well as a Native American school. believe me I know the evil that shows, its in all races brother
