@Porion491 I think there will always be problems no matter what day and age it is, just because it is better in some aspects compared to years ago does not mean we should ignore the problems that we face today! Those who are apathetic to such issues are blissful due to ignorance, or just lethargic.
Yes let's moan about how terrible this world is, with it's overwhelming literacy levels and astoundingly low poverty levels. It's a nightmare here on this blue rock, especially when you compare it to, say, year 1000!
Do yourselves a favor: grow up and open your eyes. People living now have it easy, no matter their nationality.
just to be an ass how bout ur saying something like this: stop complaining bout gettin raped in the butt twice a week people in the year 1000 got raped in the butt everyday, even though its currently possible today not to get raped in the butt at all !owned!
No matter their nationality? do some research! I agree the majority have an easier life only because of technology other than that not much is different. The ancient Greeks were just as advanced as us socially speaking. Meaning the politics of humanity haven't changed if anything they have become more confusing and dangerous with the introduction of technology. There are genocides going on all over the world 22 major ones as of today!
And how many genocides do you think there were going on even a thousand years ago? Shit, half the bible is written in praise of genocide, nobody felt any shame about it until extremely recently.
It was a pretty common occurrence until human populations got large enough that instead of only killing a few tens of thousands, you were dealing with the logistics of killing tens of millions.
I don't have space to continue, but i hope you can figure it out from there.
side note: The ancient greek citizens owned slaves, killed ethnic classes that were in disfavor (publicly, it was sometimes an honor to kill an untouchable), thrived on child abuse and infanticide, and, of course, had gladitorial arenas.
Just how do you define "social advancement?" Because i have a pretty low opinion of their society.
Not sure what planet you live on, but it's evidently not the same one as I. Where can you legally own slaves, kill people in the street, then pay to watch some good ol' fashioned fights to the death?
Perhaps you don't understand what these things are.
john lennon and a perfect circle were right... we should imagine what they did and make this world a better place, peace to all!
people don't understand that we created our own hell on earth...things shouldn't be this way, we MADE things this way. the world would be abetter place if we pulled our head out of our asses and awakened true peace, freedom, and justice.
What narcissism you portray; "Damn you all for ruining it." What makes you better than anyone?
Condemning billions for something you don't know any of them have specifically done is ridiculous.
The day one video on a free website - posted by one anonymous person that portrayed their translation of what this song means - affects me in a way that I become self-righteous is a day I hope I fucking die.
Damn people like you for fucking with people that don't deserve to be fucked with.
Maynard is nothing short of a brilliant mind. I wish that I was on his level but with covers like these, how he conveys the music like this. It helps me understand his mindset better and allows mind to grow further than it has after years of tool/Apc aside from the rest of the resources.
Thank you for posting this image of the true world.

i really like maynards because it adds more of an epic sound to the lyics and the video is just the truth for your eyes to see the real world that i think john wouldn't have wanted people to see something that disturbing because in a way it make you feel sad in a way and john was about inspiring people in a positive way just my opinion. i think some times you have to see how messed up things are to get involved
im a major beatles/lennon fan, so i usually dont like when people cover their stuff, but i think this is just as good as john lennon's version. in a way, the tone matches the lyrics better. john's was all optimistic.. and sadly, this is more realistic to the world today. :/
My because john Lennon had millions does not mean that he was a hypocrite for saying "imagine no possessions" It was meant as that people in this world can't do without STUFF. He was not a rich child growing up and he just happened to be a HUMBLE FORTUNATE person to have money because he was GENIUS.. John Lennon did a lot for people, and did a lot to spread peace. Is his wife who is still alive a hypocrite for havign money and spreading peace? Some people just don't know shit
It's always easy to bash something you don't understand. It's not a shitty version, just different. This song was Lennon's dream, it never came true. Meynard saw that dream deteriorat, and deteriorated the song to match it. it's beautiful, sad, yet optomistic.
Maynard sure got shit on for covering Lennon, but I prefer the cover over the original.
I thick Maynard's sarcasm best captures the hypocrisy of Lennon's words "could you imagine a world without possessions" asked by a man who's a millionaire.
I guess that's the irony of life...that , greed , deception and hate is so entwined in our society that it's nearly impossible not contribute to the very thing that you're morally against.

In 1945,a young girl named katu lata kulu came over to America in a grey boat from Africa. Exactly its a two way street. It's sad how today government is viewed as society's servant and the "people" no matter how ignorant the plebians may be, are beyond reproach. People serve the government as well. Although that government has to be worthy of that piety. Presently I cannot think of a single government on Earth that meets those standards.
I believe that you are right to say that people are ignorant to understand how the government works but in a democracy people do not serve the government the government serves us "For the people and by the People"
Not entirely true, to an extenet each individual exists to serve the people and society. In theory the governent should be elected and act to stand as the determinant of the people. SO its a balncing act of the two really
then you obviously do not understand that we ourselves should be are own leaders... with respect for all that exists... and our governments absolutely do not posses that quality.
The song depicts the same message but in a different light. John Lennon (brilliant by the way)tried to promote change through hope and vision...Maynard tried to promote change by showing the true despair of our world and to spark action to do something about it, or atleast think about it....its all the same song!!
the original is a great song but this is great as well, it's the same amazing message just presented a little different. I would like this song no matter who sang it, and I think Lennon would love that others are carrying this on

Hey, moron. Pessimistic is exatcly what the song is. That doesn't mean it is bad. It basically means a negative outlook on something. Which is exactly what this song is. lol, with all due respect to what's depicted on the vid, but is this all a joke? Seems like the singer sang it in a comedic style, on purpose? ha ha ha
Comedic? What on earth did you find comedic about it? This is part of why this world is like this- things like this are made light of until they mean nothing.
i think that this version really fits with what has happened ever since he wrote that song. Back in that time there was alot of hope and potential for change, but we all fucked it up and didnt try hard enough and now we have this world.
The original song was long gone to the new generation until this version came out. Until I heard this version and really liked it and the messege it brought forth I heard the John Lennon version and seriously, I'm happy I found it. The messege of peace and unity is being passed throughout the generations, Lennon is probably really happy right now...
Lenin? wtf! I mean, Lenin hated Hitler and Hitler came into power after the defeat of the Russian Revolution - just like Stalin came into power after the Russian Revolution. WTF!!!
I find it incredibly moving when the video cuts to the dolphins from above with the chorus. Reminds me of the innocence and beauty still in this world, but will eventually be wiped and erradicated off the globe if Mankeys keep up their wars.
Love the song(more than the original-ill probably be crucified for my opinion),and if you think the world is in a better state now than it was in Lennons time get your head out of the sand...
a very fitting commentary and exactly the kind of thing Lennon was about. This is about way more than Iraq or even just the middle east. It is the whole human condition and the lack of humanity in the world right now...
yeh . each has its different style.. but as for the "world has never seen as much war at one time than than now.." ahem roman empire, ahem middle ages ahem napolion ahem ww1..ww2..cold war..but ti kinda sounds like you condemned war,a nd said f-117's rule :S
when i first heard the song i thought it was a disgrace to lennon, sounding like something coming from some grade b horror movie, but after awhile it grew on me and now i love it. I still like the original version better, but its hard to compare when they're like 2 completely different songs.
Shows how twisted American perspective is. The world has never been better, and it is far more peaceful than in Lenon's age (The Cold War). Imagine is supposed to be a song of hope anyways. Quit being so angsty. Terrorism is just a stupid fear tactic. You're far more likely to be struck by lightning than to die from terrorism anyways.
Terrorism is not what we are worried about, that is Bush's stupid little cover. This is in a father who beats his wife, then rapes his daughter; a preist who is selling drugs and booze to minors on the side; a young girl who is terrorized at school because of her religion...I admit that we are overmedialized, but there is shit happening. Our world has never been better? Wake up, honey.
Liked the song-cover: hated the video. I thought the images bordered on the pornographic (esp the digitized, singing baby). All in all, the video was a study in excess and overkill, IMHO.
The music worked for me, tho. Singing "Imagine" as a dirge really fits, for the times.
I think it is a pretty good cover, though the original is always better, but i agree that it fits the time more the way they do it. and the video is really great, it makes you think more when you get those pictures along with the lyrics..
f*** all who hate the song....now dont get me wrong its not the orignal but its still good no matter what u say....so if u hate this song easy dont listin to it.........btw i like the orginal just as much if not more
Theres no accounting for some peoples tastes! I can appreciate this won't appeal to everyone. Most of you probably just stumbled upon this while looking for the original so it's no wonder you don't like it. Screw all of you I LOVE IT!
Even though John Lennon's version is a lot more upbeat, This fits the times a lot more. Think about it~ Think about the state of the world and the flow of the song, It fits. While Lennon's version fit when he wrote it.
i have to agree with you man honestly the world of today is quite the sad sad world if you like tihs youll probably enjoy Mad Word the Donnie Darko Film Version

Lenin? wtf! I mean, Lenin hated Hitler and Hitler came into power after the defeat of the Russian Revolution - just like Stalin came into power after the Russian Revolution. WTF!!!

I find it incredibly moving when the video cuts to the dolphins from above with the chorus. Reminds me of the innocence and beauty still in this world, but will eventually be wiped and erradicated off the globe if Mankeys keep up their wars.

dude this is one of the best songs of all times i like lennons better then any but this is an amzing song non the less
kikyoisthehottie 5 years ago
For those who seem so against this remake. Do you really think John Lennon would be ashamed that this message was passed the younger generation?
hitekhobo 5 years ago
Love the song(more than the original-ill probably be crucified for my opinion),and if you think the world is in a better state now than it was in Lennons time get your head out of the sand...

Fucking garbage, maynard needs to get his eyes gouged out for being such a piece of crap
GTate888 5 years ago
a very fitting commentary and exactly the kind of thing Lennon was about. This is about way more than Iraq or even just the middle east. It is the whole human condition and the lack of humanity in the world right now...

how do you go about changing your boxers, well and pants too probly too in my case

not my 'cuppa tea' but it is good I love the interpretation and I think the poetic licence was what John Lennon was about.

yeh . each has its different style.. but as for the "world has never seen as much war at one time than than now.." ahem roman empire, ahem middle ages ahem napolion ahem ww1..ww2..cold war..but ti kinda sounds like you condemned war,a nd said f-117's rule :S
theyellowdart12 5 years ago
when i first heard the song i thought it was a disgrace to lennon, sounding like something coming from some grade b horror movie, but after awhile it grew on me and now i love it.

TechnoHamster 5 years ago
I understand what your saying.. but tell that to the ppl that died on 9/11...
lilspite 5 years ago

I think it is a pretty good cover, though the original is always better, but i agree that it fits the time more the way they do it. and the video is really great, it makes you think more when you get those pictures along with the lyrics..
desireDess 5 years ago
Yeah it fits the times when Lennon wrote it and now, his songs are timeless, if you played it then and play it now, it still fits.
No one can do a cover and make it 'fit' more with what the world is today.
And the song was written and played the way it was, not meant to be played like these people did it.
TheHeadShrinker 5 years ago
I like this song because it does fit the time. Look around people look at the shit the world has turned into.

Theres no accounting for some peoples tastes! I can appreciate this won't appeal to everyone. Most of you probably just stumbled upon this while looking for the original so it's no wonder you don't like it. Screw all of you I LOVE IT!
lozie1988 5 years ago
yeah john lennon is rollin in his grave
fenderplayer22 5 years ago
Even though John Lennon's version is a lot more upbeat, This fits the times a lot more. Think about it~ Think about the state of the world and the flow of the song, It fits. While Lennon's version fit when he wrote it.
Excelent. Excelent.
