can you please explain how far apart you mark the armhole, waist line and hip line?do you divide the measurements(such as bust, waist and hip) in 4? thanks.
The preceding video tells how to take those measurements. Watching that video makes this step much easier. You must also understand, that not all sewing projects are easy and it will take practice and knowledge to accomplish some things. This video was fine
I thought "how to" videos where suppose to help anyone. Not people who went to design college. Most of the "how to" videos on youtube work well for teaching people who know nothing about this kind of thing. :( Disappointed.
*@#)???. basic theory of design, first of all, show a picture of what you are making. second, mention illustrated size of particular pattern, third, measurements s/b explained from a vertical and horizontal perspective which they do not do. thumbs down.
First of all, this doesn't show from the beginning how to put the measurements on paper...... from where to where. She should have said you start with drawing two lines, using a metal square. Then proceed, transferring your own measurements onto that paper. Needs much more information to be operational.
First of all, this doesn't show from the beginning how to put the measurements on paper...... from where to where. She should have said you start with drawing two lines, using a metal square. Then proceed, transferring your own measurements onto that paper.
Confused ...after marking the length, she is marking the arm hole, waist and the hips on the paper .... How do you know the distance between each other ...
Try AngelaKanecom - she's very good and is expanding her tutorials all the time. You can even download patterns and print them on your own printer. Give her a try ;0)
Im a fashion design MAJOR and im confused AF expert village videos.... are quite confusing......... SMH........ this is not even what I was taught in class.
@nisah7861 watch the measurement video that'll show how she got the size, but if you make it it will go according to your measurements, so knowing hers wouldnt help too mutch
Hey guys ! I just made a tutorial on how to make a dark blue skirt ! It's very elegant, cute, easy and fast to do ! Pleaaaaaase come check, it's my first tutorial and I need to know by your comments if it's good ! :) THANKS in advance !
For those of you that DON'T know. To know when to put in the measurements of the bust, waist, and hips you need to first measure yourself down the front.
From the base of your neck down to where a short skirt would end at the hem.
That or you can just grab an old tee and some shorts and mark where your middle bust, waist and hips would be.
How do you know how much to go down for the different levels, for example how many inches do I go down from the armhole or how much do I go down from the waistline???????
@fwd1976 - Can you explain to me how far down the centerfront fold do you make markings for the waste and the hip?....do we measure this our selves? im confused :(
@The2V2 for a girl of age upto 25 or 26 the marking for wiste is 13 to 14 inches from the shoulder and from shoulder to hips... well this can be found by measuring your old shirt or take body measurment. it usually is the from shoulder to hip bone. i hope u r no more confused. i can help further if u want xxxxx
What do yoi do when the front not make sence. I give yoi example- Mi daughter she is 5'1 and her chest is a 36'DD and her waist is a 30 but her back measures a 23 4/3 inches?? Down from top to waist it not make sense at all cause when I sew it to gether it not fit???
I saw the first video where you take all the measurements, but this one confused me. How do you know how far apart to make the markings, i must have missed that part. Could you clear this up for me. Thanks.
You can use all kinds of paper. You can buy special pattern paper, but you can also use baking sheets, wax paper, brown paper/paper bags, an old newspaper, gift wrapping paper or whatever you have available. Even the thick paper that painters use to cover the floor can be used, actually, if you want a nice pattern which is easy to trace around with chalk and you have space to store the stiff paper, the painter paper or even card board makes real nice patterns.
Help STOPShouldnt we know first on how to take body measurements from the neck, chest, hips, arms ect ect Then apply them on paper this is so confusing.Help if someone knows of another website please let me know..I just want to learn the basics so I can make a simple dress. HELP
Hey sofia, im Robbie. I aggreed with you on the video. Its been 3 weeks since you have posted anything. Have you found a good website that talks about how to do everything from start to finish.
I'd also like to add that in the book the Oriental way of drafting patterns is done straight onto the fabric. However, the mearsurements are taking, divided accordingly, and then transferred over to the fabric similar to what you are doing on paper.
Thanks a million to you and your assistant. I had been looking for a video to compliment the book "Patternless Fashions" and you have answered the call. The video is awesome!!
In the previous video "How to Make a Dress: How to Take Measurements", they measure from the top of the shoulder down to the bottom of the armhoe, from the shoulder to the waist, from waist to hip, and from the back of the neck to where the hem would be for the total length of the dress.
If u r reading this, then u will find a dead bloody body hanging in ur closet. U will be haunted and killed by her. to stop it posti this to 6 other videos in 30 GOOD LUCK
why they make the video??? stupid type video..nothing is showing clearly and skip most of measurements...just do the video from top...people want see what you are doing not your faces.
AGREE. I've looked at many of their vdos on how to do/make many different things that I'm interested in learning. None of their vdos, that I've seen, titel the clips in # parts. We have 2guess by their titles which one is the next clip to follow. And they don't include details/explanations of the most frequently asked questions nor respond back to those who've actually asked the qns!!! I have no idea why they bother to put up their how to do vdos for us when they don't answer back our qns!
@bebe4c03 : not only that, i find myself getting more and more frustrated and angry as the video progresses! not only don't they sufficiently cover the image, i feel like they are racing to make their tutorials short as possible D=<
this made absolutely no sense to me, i actually do sew and i had no idea of what they were doing all i saw was hands drawing lines and talking about drawing line to line, im sorry but whoever did this video really needs to not do it again or fill in the blanks along the way, we are human not super duper humans
aerial view of whats going on so i can see :-( when he gets closer to his end i dont know what hes doing... i really want to learn how to make patterns! help!
I don't know any books that help to design patterns....but one GREAT one that helps to alter regular printed patterns is "How To Design Dress Patterns" by ADELE MARGOLIS, (not too sure about title...but am about author.) CLASSIC 30 years ago, still in print! G.Luck1
No, they don't have the same measurements. Measurements of clothing follow body measurements. Body measurements are usually not the same in front and back. Hope this helps!
Does anybody know an easy site that I can try and sew (preferabley hand sew..yes, laborious, I know) a dress? I've already drafted a corset pattern for myself before, and that came out all right...please, suggestions! Google is being confusing!
Its actually very easy to draft patterns. I'm a self taught mens tailor. But the woman has not clearly indicated the measurements & how they relate to each other on the drafting paper. The body measurements act as reference points to each other.
Unless you have some previous knowledge in how to make a dress pattern these measurements mean nothing! All I saw were random lines and her saying numbers...boo for me because I'm a beginner sewer!!
