from w-ik-i: Seconds is a 1966 American film starring Rock Hudson. Characterized sometimes as a science fiction thriller, but with elements of horror, neo-noir, psychedelia, and drama, it was directed by John Frankenheimer with a screenplay by Lewis John Carlino. The script was based on a novel by David Ely. The film was released by Paramount Pictures and was entered into the 1966 Cannes Film Festival.[1]
@bgbizkit In his time he did pretty much everything, including musical numbers. He was a wonderful actor, vastly overrated. He could do a comic slow burn like nobody in movies, even the peerless Cary Grant (check out his hilarious, pitch-perfect performance in "Man's Favorite Sport?" opposite the marvelous Paula Prentiss). Also loved his comedy as a guest on "The Carol Burnett Show."
Thanks for posting this! This movie deserved an Academy Award for Rock Hudson, the writing and the direction. Ironic line from the gal here "You dirty old man" because he was transformed from an older businessman. Here was the beginning of the end for the character because he was in a party with other "Seconds" and blabbed too much.
Rock Hudson was never less than professional. On every set. Even when the material was far beneath him. He may not have been the most congenial person on the set but he was never a 'drunk'. After his passing the PC people called him an alcoholic just like they did Natalie Wood. It's BS.
BTW, this film was a way ahead of its time and did little business in '66. It may be Rock's best. Deserved an Academy nod.
@JerseySurvivor That's true---and one of the reasons he despised James Dean who often was late or mumbling in one of his Actor's Studio routines...Hudson absolutely deserved a a Academy nod. What's wrong with those people?? Better actor than he's giving credit for. And beyond handsome of course.
This is Hudson portraying a drunken character in a film, not a "very drunk Rock Hudson." Please support this so-called "COoll FAcT," with evidence. You might also explain the relevance of a "COoll FAcTt" regarding any actor. I've heard all the stories about Hudson's alcohol consumption, which suggest he drank heavily. But I have never found ANY stories asserting (again, with credible evidence) that he drank at all on location --
1. I did not know that Rock was portraying a drunken character in this clip....I thought it was just a camera following him in his home :-) ...please get a sense of humor, PLEASE...
2. I'm not insinuating that he was drunk on every movie set. It's a COoL FAcT to me because he did get drunk for this scene because he wanted to do a great job for the movie; he wanted to branch out from the romantic comedies the typecasting studio had him doing after the huge hit "Pillow Talk."
@MrsRockHudson Articles written about the making of Seconds will prove you correct and confirm that in order to achieve an authentic portrayal Hudson did in fact prepare for this scene by getting drunk. This was a very meaningful role for Hudson, and his performance throughout is excellent.
> Proof that Rock was drunk - Go watch the "Seconds" dvd and put it on Director's commentary ((1:07:33-1:08:07 and 1:15:24-1:15:38)). John Frankenheimer WAS THERE and he said Rock had a few drinks JUST for that one (1) singular scene.
He was NEVER, EVER drunk on any other set/scene during his entire career.
Sorry, I was in a bad mood. Please forgive me. And please pardon me for asking the obvious -- is this from "Seconds?" I've only seen part of this film (obviously not THIS part:)), but Hudson's performance therein might be his best in a drama. He was no Olivier, but the guy wasn't just ridiculously handsome -- he COULD act:) -- Well, Frankenheimer should know, no? I only wonder whether Rock was bombed in this scene or only a little high, with his acting supplying the rest --
@stevevandien And people who never did/never will know this man personally should care WHY??? Good lord, he's a dead actor. Get a clue and join the rest of us in the real world. Don't you have anything more important to worry about???
P.S. Maybe YOU should get drunk and lighten up! I'm buzzed right now and it's done wonders for my sense of perspective! LOL
What is this movie scene? I mean, what movie is this,.. he is really drunk, you can see that... I love drunk people. Even drunk he is sooo attractive.
I wonder did he infect any women?

I love you Roy.

@MrsRockHudson If he wanted to break out from being typecast, why didn't he play the part of a sexual pervert who really liked men instead of women?

@MrsRockHudson He is introduced as Mr. Wilson....so your claim does not make sense at all.
