Religion can be one of many escapes. How many times have you heard people say how they were freed from Alcohol by the power of Jesus? People can turn to many escapes such as drugs or alcohol, or even fantasy novels, anime, furry role play, World of Warcraft, sports, video games, and even workohol.
Having said that, I think people can still enjoy all of these things, including spirituality, and still have the courage to face there "demons".

If I gave "Jesus" or religion credit for prejudice against homosexuals, I would be guilty of observational bias, too. All I can say is that religion has an appeal to the bigoted and the insane, but not every spiritual person is bigoted and/or insane.

Homosexuality wasn't a big issue back then. It was, however, a very important issue to Paul, who was probably much more the fundamentalist then Jesus. Thankfully, I can say there is enough contention between the orthodoxy to say that Paul being considered the founder of Christianity is dubious. I think Paul gets held in such high regard because people like to scapegoat "sinners" for all the problems in society, rather then deal with them..

I came back and watched that lace video. It's pretty tame - and lest we forget it is on Youtube and doesn't violate the TOS. I'd dismiss it just on that basis since I don't think lingerie is against Christian values. Hell, he could be running one of those home businesses SELLING it and not be violating Christian values.

Therefore the brain will manifest lust even if only at a subconcous level for a split second. Feelings cannot be switched on and off , they need to be processed. The old-fashioned woman is obviously on her way to church. Neph is fantasizing how he can manifest the fantasy with call girls.
