damn that sucks. I've down some mountain flying and you really have to have your head on a swivel so you don't fly into a boxed canyon or like this poor guy run out of altitude, airspeed and ideas all at the same time. RIP buddy.

flying over ascending terrain is especially dangerous, you think you're flying level when you're really ascending, the airspeed is dropping and stalls are more likely.

I live 20 minutes away from Jeffco Airport. I did crowd control there for the airshow with Civil Air Patrol.

This was shown in a mountain-flying seminar of multiple mistakes made by the pilot particularly flying in the center of the valley instead of near the edge where he would have had more room to turn.
