They did the same thing for the two weapons Onion Knight wields. Also, Onion Knight is just called the because the original game for the NES had you start off as an Onion Knight.

However, they could have gone with Luneth from the DS version, but oh well...

Anyway, the thing is, the 8-bit FF1 battle theme hardly gives anything to remix at all. The fact that SE can conjure up this epic theme from that is a testament to their godly remix skillz.
