Yes, Youtube was blocked in China due to videos being posted protesting Chinese involvement in Tibet. The Chinese government demanded that Youtube remove the videos. Youtube refused. The Chinese government then blocked Youtube. But the tech equipment for blocking goes down on occassion thus presenting a window of opportunity.

So......, it is very sad that we will not be seeing you for a year beginning the end of August.

I lived in Shanghai for two years. Nanjing is nearby. It's a great city! You should definitely visit Shanghai too. China is LOADS of fun, and you should definitely be totally open-minded and just have fun. :) Hope you have a blast over there!

She didn't know what Youtube was though lol. My sister lives in Shanghai and uses Facebook. Youtuber worldismarble is in Shanghai at the moment and has been posting videos ... I guess I have to wait and see!

Yeah, might as well wait and see what happens. I can imagine that it's gonna be a pretty long journey. A 5 hour drive from Sheffield to London and a 12-ish hour flight to Shanghai then a coach or train (or is it directly to Nanjing via Frankfurt which is roughly 18 hours). From a load of pics that I've seen, I must say that Nanjing is one gorgeous city!

my friend is in china right now and he said you can use a proxy. they make you "invisible" to china's firewall preventing access to facebook and stuff. my friend is using a proxy "free trial" which last for 3 days. unfortunately you have to pay for the full thing, though i dont know how much.
