  • Thanks well explained, The Bloke in the tackle shop told me to put the spool in a welly boot and wind it up half way, and than turn the spool upside down, put it back in the welly boot and wind the rest on to the spool. I am glad i did not listen to him.

  • Great Vid!!!!

  • so fuccin simple

  • Thanks so much!! I always thought it was issues with the reel or even the quality of the line itself. I have to re-spool 2 of my reels, and I haven't done so in years. Obviously last time I re-spooled them, I did them incorrectly, as I was always getting bird nests and tangles, thereby frustrating me and ruining my day fishing.

  • I have heard of this but never used it. Usually I do what Mr Fircasse suggests. Also, if you have a boat and your line gets loopy, let out a ton and drag it behing the boat. Maybe put one of those water-filled bobbers on the end first. Try extra limp line, Pline or braid, they seem to have the least memory. DON'T OVERFILL YOUR SPOOL!

  • Do NOT do this it will lead to MORE tangles - Let me explain: Yes, if you do this the line will not be twisted at all on the spool, but then every cast you make PUTS THE TWIST BACK into the line!!!! You wind on from a STRAIGHT spool, the line twists as it goes onto the reel, but then when you cast you UNTWIST the line that is not on the reel - a LOT less tangles!. Straight line wound on, twists onto the reel - but casts back off STRAIGHT again. Do not follow this fool's advice!

  • I just bought a new combo reel and 17 lb mono that gets 330 yrds. The rod indicates 17/300. How much line am I supposed to spool? 100 yards is plenty I would imagine... ? Dumb question.. but newbie here... thx.

  • @Unplugged704 Keep the spool at least 2/3 full of line to cast without jerks. also keep the line about 1/8th inch under the lip to avoid the line flowing over the edge when opening the bail.

  • @Unplugged704 sorry so late but that should mean 17 lb. test line/300 yard's the lighter the line you choose,,the more line, you can use. also 17 lb mono is pretty heavy! where are you fishin" and what for? lol you probably know all this by now..-

  • @gregoir - I'm trying to catch stripers @ Lake Norman outside Charlotte, NC.

  • capt. obvious, it´s like you´re teaching mentally disabled persons.

  • @margokallavus Jeepers mister you must be the best fisherman in the world! Better than anyone else! You must know everything there is to know about fishing, that's why you watched this vid right?!

  • This is worthless. It doesn't even show how to do it.

  • knowing this will save you a lot of cursing about birds nests and kinked up line

  • well i never lol

  • hey, im desperate and i need help. my line keeps wraping under my reel, the spinning part. now i have 3 loops and cant get it undone. ive spent hours on it. it seems the line twisted itself around the middle inside the reel. please help thanks

  • @NYmosVids Damn this was six months ago, but what the hell - Don't try to guess what direction the line is wrapped under the reel and save yourself days of fishing time by using this simple method: If your line ever wraps under the reel again, twist the cap that controls the drag until it comes off. Once you remove the cap, you'll be able to lift off the spool that's holding your line, revealing the nasty tangle that wrapped itself around the reel's spindle. Hope this helps!

  • @NYmosVids not mocking mackles @ all he's right but he forgot to say(if it wasnt obvious) sorry..just saw this and trying to help... pull that mess off of the threaded pin thing that you pulled the spool off of, then pull the tangled line of and it should easily untanle, pull your line tight, then put you spool back on and adjust your drag ..it's a pain but it work's..also make sure your line is tight around your spool and you leave room on your spool so the line doesn't go over it.

  • i saw this video about 6 months ago and remembered it....looked over an HOUR for it tonight. this is by FAR the best method! very well explained!!

  • great tip, i never knew this either

  • CRAZY, I NEVER NEW THIS.

  • Hey I've always wanted to try fishing and get into it, but i'm having some trouble with my fishing rod, would you PELASE be willing to watch my only video and tell me what i need to do? I really look foward to go fishing, Thank you so much :)

  • Great!!! I need a more thick line anyways.

  • Best method I know is just buy a new fishing rod with the line already

  • @HakaWog haha! this is actually better because usually those rod's have been sitting for a while and the line either get's dry rot or it get's like a permanent memory, loop's in it and unless your casting heavy weight about 100 feet or more away from you all the time your gonna end up with tangles. haha coincidentally because of that problem I said last year that I wont buy those, or I'll take the line off and save it for icefishing(handline's or tipups) and use new line.

  • another tip if u will cut off your lure or weight and let the line either drift behind the boat all off the spool ,or in a river just let the current take it down all off the spool you can then tightly pinch the line and reel it back on the spool i find that helps alot with the twist.

  • Thanks!!

  • Im pretty sure the line is way too loose when doing this, that will all fly off with a cast,or atleast a quarter of it....

  • Who says you can't teach a old dog a new trick? Many thanks!

  • I did this with some maxima, couldnt bairly fish today cause of line twist. .

  • any knot realy you never use that much line to get close enough for it too snag are mess with your casting .. i think but its all personal preferences.. i use traditional box not..

  • when reeling in a baitcasting reel with out a fish on, do u have to put ur thumb on the spool?

  • no, unless you have little to no weight tied on

  • No. but if ther'e not any resistance with what you're reeling in (like if your line just broke), you'll want to pinch the line ahead of the reel in order to spool it under tension.

  • I'm a fishing guide in Norther Wisconsin and have been doing this for years, it works very well ACCEPT:

    1) When the spool of line comes twisted from the factory OR

    2) The particular make and model of reel actually twists the line as you spool it.

"I've had several and seen a number of clients with the problem.

    3) Using lures that twist your line. Non ball bearing swivels are useless.

The next remedy is to let out a lot of line with no lure and run the motor holding the rod low uncurling it.

  • also I'm thinking you're still going to get a slight amount of twist with this method anyway since the spool of line and the spool of the reel aren't exactly the same diameter.

  • I've never had thought this way... very interesting! Congratulations !

  • THAT'S GONNA GIVE YOU LINE TWIST.....

  • Great. That was the most annoying thing ever! Right when u c a big fish, the line decides to tangle....What knot do u recommend to use to tie the line to the reel? Is it the same for a baitcasting reel?

  • arbor knot

  • Great!

    Thats a good tip!

    Thnx!
