I've read interviews with Randy where he felt he hadn't developed his style yet. He felt he was copying Van Halen. I don't see that at all. To me, there's no comparison. Why Randy felt that way is beyond me. Randy's style was complete; a great mixture of modal playing with bluesy swagger. Monster riifs with perfectly constructed solos. I have nothing but great respect for the man. It's tragic he trusted some idiot with a supposed pilot's license.

@guitarslinger32269 there are myriad places whereby randy clearly copies van halen. 1:00 in the live solo--same chords as eruption. his hammer-ons are from VH, and they aren't as good. in addition, Ed is a trained classical musician who who play beethoven and mozart in concert during his solos. randy also uses effects in a great way as did Ed. the on-and-off knob in crazy train? pure VH from VH1..you really got me. i love randy to death, but he did copy Ed/was influenced by Ed.
