  • that was fantastic malkauns! thans for posting this.

  • also the string breaking/impromptu tabla solo thing just pushes their musical symbiosis over the top. incredible

  • Some of you may be interested in avant-jazz-er Don Cherry's version of this raga. One of the few "fusion" guys not to flub it up or turn hindustani into some sort of meaningless exotica instead of the beautiful and intensely human/familiar music that it is.

  • Love his playing style, the guy's a fuckin' fankar and a genius! Exemplary interplay between the Ustad and the tabla player.

  • wt a talent...to keep playing for so long n tht 2 so brillliantly!!

  • Quite fantastic!

  • beautiful melody!!!

  • marvelous and mind blowing Sarod playing by Ustaad Amjadji and wonderful tabla accompaniment.

  • WAH KHAN SAB

    KHOOB BHALO KHOOB BHALO

RAGA MALKAUNS COMPOSED BY USTAD NAUSHAD ALI FOR "BAIJU BAWRA" FILM SUNG BY USTAD MOHD. RAFI

MAN TADPAT HARI DARSHAN KO AAJ

    HARE KRSNA

  • Ustad Amjad Ali Khan is one of the Great classical music player in India. What a Syncro !!! Tabla & Sarod.

  • Wow

    This is great

  • Its really superb piece of work.I enjoy sarod & I am a gr8 fan of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan ,Amaan & ayaan Ali Khan.

  • Malkauns is such a soothing raag, and comes alive in the hands of this master :) Also, the playful, unscripted interactions are routine in Indian classical music - every performance, while following an overall structure, has enough improv to make it unique.

PS: Malkauns in Hindustani === Hindolam in Carnatic

    (sa-ga-ma-da-ni-sa, sa-ni-da-ma-ga-sa in either).

  • I love how they're so obviously really having fun and enjoying the interaction as well. You can really see their appreciation for each other. Such a wonderful thing to witness.

  • Great video...Ustad Amjad Ali Khan is great as usual.

  • I love ICM hes so calm and casual even when his string breaks!! Love that about indian classical just fixes it and moves on!!

  • Great clip, thanks!

  • Long live Indian classical Music!

Down with tertian harmony, embrace the flowing!

    -N.

  • Congrats for being nominated to Grammy!

  • There is a famous bhajan in raga malkauns with this same tune i think sung by Mohammed Rafi? Anyone know that bhajan?

  • The Bhajan is "Man Tarpat Hari Darshan Ko Aaj", in Baiju Bawra, sung magnificently by Md Rafi. A youtube search on Malkauns will bring it up easily enough.

    regards

  • i love raga malkauns

  • Me too.

  • wow...great.

  • So nice to see that classical music gives people real happiness and makes them smile and laugh :)

  • superb piece of work.....i dont understand an thing about classical music, but this piece is definately great.

  • i like music

  • I love the raga Malkauns, knowing it from Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Bismillah Khan, but when i tried to play something resembling it on my guitar and sax it always came out sounding bluesy, as it's very similar to a blues scale on a dominant, but this is the first time i can hear the bluesiness in the traditional playing of the raga, i love it.

    Thanks for posting

  • Amazing performance and the best part is that although the tabla player is equally good as ustadji, he still uses his tabla skills only to support Ustadji rather than try to prove his mastery....Truely Professional!!

  • I agree man!

  • UNBELEIVABLE KAMAL KAMAL WALLA KAMAL

  • youre absolutely right, raga malkauns does resemble the blues scale

  • what a polite tabla player. He plays beautifully.

  • Can anyone tell me who the tabla player is?

    thanks

  • Ustad Sarvar Sabri, of the ajrada gharana. He is the son of the very very great Ustad Sabri Khan sahib. He is about 21 in this video

  • Two Ustads! But I think the original tabla solo is much longer. cenkjeekhan, i would be really happy if you could post the wohle video somehow.

  • most of the song is improvised, and each improvised section or phrase is often ended with a pre-composed set of few notes, or part of a song that was pre-composed. so I would say 90% is improvised.

  • are those interactions near the beginning prearranged? - or is it just improv?

  • all improvised

  • String break was a perfect opportunity for the tabla player.

  • amjadji is awesome....he actually makes sabri dance on his terms!!at one point of time sabri just stops waiting for ustadji to start over again...!!!

and, PK7917, u are sik man/woman..and immatured too.....

  • my fave rag malkauns

  • Do you guys know who the tabla player isÈ

  • It would seem like Gulam Sarwar Sabri

  • I am a Student of sabriji.

  • HOw do you know?

  • Am I right? I just think thats who he is..

  • You are right

  • Nice. How long have you been studying with Ustad-ji? I have started learning the tabla this year!

  • That was a quick fix!

  • wow, amazing how he fizxed the string and it was like nothing happened.

  • that was only possible because of the skill of the tabla player

  • True

  • so beautiful. he plays with the perfect mix of passion and technical virtuosity

  • Ustad Amjad Ali Khansahab is one of the classiest musicians I have ever seen. It is such a great feeling to see such a cultured person creating great music like this.

  • I so agree with you. His music is great as it is but he is also such a beautiful human being it just makes his music very refreshing, peaceful and purifying.

  • just amazing man-it be really great if you can upload more from this concert

Amjadji is just so incredible here

  • the musicianship is astounding!
