Xhris: This is a good question. The snorkel allows you to breathe while continuing to keep your face in the water on the surface looking downward. This allows you to enjoy the undersea views without constantly pulling your head out of the water to breathe. You simply puff into the snorkle to clear any water from it. The dives you see here to the bottom are lasting only 20-40 seconds. Easy to hold your breath that long. Thank you.
this might sound like a stupid question as i don't know much about this kind of stuff, but what difference does the snorkel make? surely the water just rushes straight through the snorkel into your mouth? don't you need to be able to hold your breath for a very long time?
