@riskotibor80 You are wrong. This is indeed a Semi-Hollow. One does not need "f-holes" to make a semi-hollow guitar...that just makes them easier to recognize.
Considering the audio is recorded via a compact point-and-shoot digital camera, no doubt it sounds even better in person. I see you can even dial in that Black and Decker sound (about 4:00 into the video). Nice.
@1Jn227 Thanks! This video was from a long time ago! I got an actual video camera after about 20 videos...now I'm at about 250...and yes this guitar sounded way better than what you can hear here. I am getting another PRS Custom Semi-Hollow this week (this one's long gone) which has a 24 frets and a regular neck shape which is what I prefer)...so a higher quality demo will be coming soon. I've done a few videos here with my original Green one (look for #300/300) which is similar to the new one.
@SuperGuitarMark You can set the bridge so that it can pull up and yes, a well set up PRS can do all sorts of whammy bar abuse...not quite as extreme as a Floyd can but close (it stays in tune as well but can't go quite as far)...my other green one can go farther than this one (as it has the optional uprouted trem cavity).
@wajang1000 They come stock with a set of 9's (9-42) but 10's are no problem and only a little tweaking is needed...you can use almost any gauge of strings but past a normal set of 10's (10-46) and you will need to widen the nut slots (I used to like 10-52's but switched to 9-46's in the mid 90's and have used them since.
@wajang1000 No problem, today I teach you something, tomorrow perhaps you can teach me something. But this is not to be confused with the current 22 Ltd as that one has an f-hole...the only way to get one like this (aside from finding a used one) would be to order a Private Stock guitar.
@wajang1000 I am probably the biggest PRS fanatic you will ever run into and I am on a first name basis with Paul. These are not available anymore though. These came out as a Special Order option after the Signature Series Ltd.Ed. Semi-Hollow's (there were supposed to be only 300 made) sold out...that was 1990-1991 but this was never offered as an actual model...you had the option to add it to a Standard or Custom (or even the 22 fret versions)...check out my videos of #300/300! Merry Christmas!
@TommyDai1 I LOVE IT! I must have 150 plus demos with lots of different guitars (most way better quality than this one as I got an actual camcorder after about my 20th video)...check 'em out...I changed the speaker out for a Hellatone 30 (pre-aged Celestion G12H30 70th ann) and I added an Avatar 2x12 loaded with another pair of Hellatone 30's and I like it even more. I've owned and used a ton of amps...this one kills them all for great classic Fender cleans and has amazing distortion too.
@DeanJustissWheeler I would love to get my hands on one of those...especially now that I have an actual video camcorder that doesn't sound like crap...oh well...I guess I'll have to wait until someone decides the one they got isn't what they were looking for...
@pnitefly They are my favorite guitars...hands down...I no longer own this one but search my other videos for either "holy grail", "green guitar", "#300/300", or maybe "Semi-Hollow" and you'll see my main guitar since '91 (I ordered it in 1990 and picked out the top from stacks of stashed wood at the factory)...it's 24 frets with an up-routed Trem and a custom wound set of pickups done up in his old Multi-Tap system. If you ever want to sell yours...let me know! Thanks for watching!
@joakoPRIMUS This is not the Korean SE model...those don't have the Trem...it went for like $2200 at auction (Used) from memory...it was almost too good to be true...these WERE (sadly they are discontinued although they just did a limited run of similar guitars with an f hole) amazing guitars!
@BlackBerry7689 If they have an SE Semi-Hollow with a trem out now, then I want one! I don't care if it has an f-hole or not...this one didn't but is obviously more resonant than their standard solid models.
@greengtrs oooh you meant Semi hallow trem SE nah i thought you just stated that the SE model itself does not have a Trem haha, i have one (not semi hallow) but i never use the trem so i just through that off haha
Well I stand corrected then, I didn't know you could do that in a special order, I thought they only made f hole semi hollows. I guess that makes your guitar very unique
@cortem762 Especially since they discontinued the option...they never really advertised the original series of 300 or the option so it never sold well...you can only find them used and rarely see them...I loved this one...just couldn't afford to keep it at the time...
This isn't a semi hollow guitar, Paul Reed Smith only makes an SE semi-hollow, and this is not an SE. And your guitar doesn't have an F hole or anything. Amazing playing bro, but learn more about what type of guitar you have
This isn't a semi hollow guitar, Paul Reed Smith only makes an SE semi-hollow, and this is not an SE. And your guitar doesn't have an F hole or anything. Amazing playing bro, but learn more about what type of guitar you have
@cortem762 Thanks for the compliment on my playing but you need to check out more than the current offerings before making a definitive statement like that. This is indeed a semi hollow guitar (that was introduced with a Ltd Ed series of 300 and then available as a Special Order option) and as for my knowledge of PRS, I don't know absolutely everything (anymore), but you could call Paul himself and ask him what I know...in some cases it is more that he would probably like me to know.
This is a really old demo...I kept this guitar a long time but had to let it go...finances...I have gotten better at making the demos and even upgraded the camera after about 20 videos (now I'm at about 145). I talk about the guitars now and play both clean and dirty...
Very nice sounding guitar! I love the sustain on it. Been checking out your other videos as well, I really like your Gibson LP supreme, my word, what a sound that thig has! I bet it would be awsome for playing jazz az well, lots of warm tone. Must break your heart when you have to sell some of these beauties.
Thanks! It does break my heart on a lot of them...this one especially because they are pretty rare and green is my favorite color...I still have my favorite one though...my '91 ltd ed semi-hollow...I've got a few videos here of that one as well...I chose the top from piles of wood and called all the shots on that one (features...pickups, etc.)...that has been my main guitar since I got it. I am blessed to get to play all these cool guitars even if I have to sell them...
Sometimes...I don't really like the wide fat but sometimes they aren't that fat and sometimes the thins aren't so thin...it depends on who sanded it and for how long. I like the regular 24 fret neck profile best on PRS's.
I've personally owned and loved every neck profile that PRS offers...24 fret regular profile is my favorite as I have small hands and like 24 frets. This one was a wide-thin which is my least favorite of all but I still enjoyed it. The wide-fat isn't really that big but some people will think it is (too big)...just like I don't like the really slim Ibanez style necks...they are just not my thing..but I can appreciate how some people would love that sort of shape.
Thanks! Too big of a list for here...but Johnny Winter, Michael Schenker, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Bonnie Raitt (yes...she is really an incredible slide player...aside from having that amazing voice), AC/DC (the whole band...especially Angus and Malcolm), Ritchie Blackmore, and anyone ever connected with Deep Purple, Glenn Hughes, Tommy Bolin, Bernie Torme, Steve Morse, Pat Thrall, Pat Travers, Al Dimeola, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Little Feat, Cheap Trick, Golden Earring, The Beatles, and more!
Sorry for the delay in answering...I must have missed these last few comments...I use a Fender Super Sonic amp and no effects at all...maybe a little bit of reverb on this old video (since it's a great reverb and it's built into the amp). The distortion is just the natural "tube-gain" that's part of the "burn" channel in the amp...check out some of my newer vids because I've got a real camcorder now and they sound better and I don't even use the reverb these days. Thanks for watching!
More resonant and easier to get feedback...I don't think you lose any oomph...they have an extra 1/4" of Mahogany on the back...if anything I think they have a better "fat" sound than a normal PRS Custom. I'm down to 2 green guitars from 6...a cheap Washburn acoustic and the green PRS featured on my Youtube page...the last of the original Ltd Ed Semi-Hollow series. Thanks for watching and for being a green guitar fan!
Remember that the semihollow option is no longer offered by PRS. Too bad, really. I agree with all the glowing comments about the PRS semihollow; I have owned a Custom 22 semihollow (fixed bridge, dots, gold, Gretsch orange, yada, yada) for about 7 years and it is by far the best sounding and playing electric guitar I have ever owned. You got it right, Paul!
well there it is.... the guitar that made me decide to take my playing more seriously. i played one of those with the regular dotted inlays, and a fixed bridge (so i believe it's about 1000 bucks less :P) through a crappy crate solid state half stack that sounded beautiful as soon as i plucked the first note. i have yet to find a better electric guitar.
There should only be a few hundred dollar difference because of the bird inlays...no difference for fixed bridge vs. trem. 10-top will cost more though...
On my country's official PRS dealer's pricelist the bird inlays are listed as 350 euros extra. Its a bit high, but I'm still getting a PRS Custom 24 with the bird inlays (from a cheaper international dealer), because when you get a lifetime partner you shouldn't care much about the price, you just want it all. :)
Sorry for the delay...I must have missed my mail...I hope this helps if you haven't already bought it...I went all out for a few but know that beauty is only skin deep...I spent over $1000.00 USD more for all the "window dressing...birds, artist package, etc...that was at a dealer discount too and it didn't make it sound any better...I would rather have another nice guitar for the extra $1000.00 and believe me there are plenty of life-long caliber great guitar partners for that kind of money.
One day... the transcending beauty of the PRS custom ce that gracefully inhibits our cosmos will be in my hands, while i gently caress it with my swift fingers..
Thanks! I agree...and I miss it (I had to let it go because of financial reasons). The sad thing about it is that the only way you can get one like it (besides getting blessed and finding one of the few used ones that ever make it up for sale) is to order a Private Stock PRS (which will probably set you back 7-10K and will take about 2 years to get). Write Paul and tell (ask) him to reissue this guitar as a model and not just an option! With the right promotion it could become his top seller.
