I know ehy Cause Communists just love saving those who brake the law. Thats why in every communist state violent offenders are protected by the secret police.
In my mind, it is important to incorporate both methods to most effectively improve this issue. If you have a leak in your house, you dont just leave a bucket to collect the drops of water, you go and fix the problem...that is rehabilitation...the Conservatives are just off to get a bigger bucket
rehabilitation isn't always the answer nick, that's essentially what the previous liberal government banked on and it didn't do much to fight crime. Fact: 70% of convicted offenders will re-offend once released from prison. FACT: MOST crimes that are committed are a re-offence committed by a re-offender. FACT: Japan has a harsh justce system with mandatory minimum sentences, and has one of the lowest crime rates in the industrialized world.
Let me add to this: the "revolving door" of justice means most of those arrested are free in 2 or 3 years, and that's barely enough time for rehab. Moreover, there was this case in Calgary where the guy committed a crime during their sentence of house arrest. So apparently, your idea of rehab is ridiculous.
We need to take criminals off the streets, and any education must be focused on our kids. If criminals aren't going to change their minds, then there's no use rehabbing them. Capiche?
There is no more both methods with the current gang situation. These are hardened crooks who refuse help and rehab, and they're trying to lure more kids into gangs. I say throw the book at them.
The only bucket here is the one you're using to shade your own eyes, as the problem has gotten so big and violent ALL across the country (BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec) that action MUST be taken now. Take some advice from your new leader and support the legislation via a speedy passage.
To suggest that any political party in Canada is soft on crime is absolutely offensive to me. No party is SOFT on crime as many people would like to suggest. No party SUPPORTS crime, that is rediculous. Each party has its different strategy in which to tackle the crime issue. The NDP support a strategy focussed on rehabiliation, the Conservatives support a strategy that focusses on tougher penalties, while the Liberals support a strategy that balances the two methods...
nick its obvious that crime isn't as much a priority for the other parties. you are right, no party supports crime, but left leaning parties would rather use their authority, and go out of there way, to protect the rights and freedoms of criminals. thats what we mean when we say soft on crime. ps. the liberals don't want to "balance" the two, I have yet to hear a coherent thought from that party with regards to crime, and a lot of other issues for that matter.
Oddly enough, today the opposition parties ALL came out not only supporting the new Harper crime bills, they even went as far as saying he didn't go FAR ENOUGH! So who's the one saying rehab or punishment now? Are you saying that the Liberals, by shifting their focus, is now wrong? I say it's the first thing they did in the last little while that actually seemed right, albeit 3 years too late!
Moreover, ALL parties want more police officers, giving them more authority to arrest and pursue criminals, not to mention giving courts more discretion to prosecute and punish them.
Just yesterday, the CBC reported Calgary transit crimes are down despite a spike in ridership, all thanks to more cops, security cameras, and tougher bylaws and ticket fines. I'd go into more detail, but given all you do is throw Liberal propaganda, I doubt you'd be logical or reasonable enough to listen.
It's good that Dion wrote a letter to the governor of Montana--the governor would not have understood a phone call from Dion! (The governor probably would have hung up thinking Dion was a telemarketer.)
Unfortunately, the letter also did not get the governor's correct attention. The governor responded that he was a long-time, very big fan of Dion's and loved his singing in the movie, Titanic.
Ooooo... No, I think the governor may have uncovered Dion's little secret... that totally explains why during every important vote Dion and his band of Merry Men disappear!! They are recording their next big hit... a cover of Dire Straits "Money for Nothing".
You are a little hard on poor Mr. Dion. Not all of his Merry Men are in the band. Dion instructed one of them to step aside so Dion could ask Elizabeth May to join the group!
The fact of the matter is, if Canada's justice system can't even take care of its own citizens, then his priorities are definitely mixed up. I'd like to hope that I'm living in a society where I can walk down the streets without fear of being shot dead. So I agree with Mulder, and that Dion should take care of Canada first, rather than worry about the US, which BTW gave Ronald Smith a fair trial.
To Bracus72, Nicholson has made it very clear that captial punishment will not be coming back to Canada, so there's no worries about it in anyone's minds. I am, however, concerned at Dion's attitude towards the true victimes of crime. His Liberal-dominated Senate turned down various crime bills that would have protected innocent Canadians everywhere, and that worries me.
I'm against the death penalty. I don't care what the perpetrator did. Look at Norway. They have murderers living on an island who work within the community, and who are being rehabilitated. And they have the lowest crime rates in the world. And nobody is being killed to make someone feel better.
Stupid communist Trudeau got rid of the death penalty, giving underserved life to undeserving criminals.
