  • @livingthedream4eva Hey! Basically you stretch the pharyngeal or throat muscles the same way you would as if you were yawning. =) And thank you for the compliment! lol!

  • Just what I needed, thank you!!!

  • Wow, you really made me feel special today, I love you TOOO!! =D

  • IIIIIIIIIII LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOVVVVEEEEE UUUUUUUUUUU SSSSSOOOOOO

  • Hey Mr. Dillard! This was an EXCELLENT video! What other suggestion do you have for seasonal allergy suffers to protect their voice? I usually lose my voice when the season change which leave me not vocal for about a week and not able to sing fully for a month or better :-( . Just looking for suggestions. Anyway...I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel. THANK YOU for loving what you do and a heart to help others!!!!!

  • WHY THE F AREN'T YOU FAMOUS!?

  • I have a question. It's actually difficult for me to sing quietly....because I'm used to singing loudly. Not SCREAM, but just project. How do I make my voice more quiet, on songs that require you to decreshendo or mezzo piano...yeah.

  • Freaking Awesome!

  • U ARE THE SHIIIITTTT!! LOL

  • @DeeMitchechelli LMBO!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!! =)

  • @lloyd614 Why would you laugh your biceps off :( :D

  • Hey Erik! First off, i want to say you're an amazing singing! I was trying to use your technique to appear to sing louder, and I can't seem to grasp it. Is there anything i can do to help me learn how to do it?

  • i love your voice:)

  • I love YOU so Erik!!

  • @juiceloose100 And I love YOU!!!!! =)

  • 2:36

the SO.... is that called a high note?

  • How do you "increase your throat size" as you say, here. I mean, your throat size is genetic, right? You can no more increase your throat size, per se, than your shoe size. Please explain more

  • @TheSubwaysurfer relax your tongue and throat and open your throat. If you do a yawning action, look in the mirror and you will see your palate (the top of your mouth, at the back) rise and you will feel your throat open.

  • are you and the online gamer guy related?

  • I love you too ! JK lol you sinq nice(:(:

  • Hi E, tried increasing the size of my throat and i did gain more volume! it was like magic! I must say again...you really do know what you're doing...and giving all this out for free...that's a great thing. You're a great teacher and i always look forward to your videos:-) Take care!

  • Just the one little thing you said about opening your throat made me able to sing louder instantaneously. Other people want you to buy a program to tell you that. I feel like I should send you a check! Thank you.

  • @ :56 My water bottle explode, you going to buy me another one. Thanks for the awsome lesson.

  • I love you so too :)

  • Sir I loved your video about ear training, what a great idea yu have introduced there. I love to learn singing, but only source I have is online and you are a great help. Thank You a lot. My problem is that I have a high pitch voice naturally, when I try to hit high notes I have to close my throat which makes my high notes kin of weaker, I would appreciate any advise.

  • so do u really think that what u did @ 1:10 messes up your vocals? The only reason i asked that question.(I'm not sure if u listen to Gospel or not)Twinkie & Karen Clark do that all the time, and im still trying to figure out how they can do it for so long? Then still stand on stage and keep singing for a whole 7-8 more mins without drinking water or anything?

  • the best vocal coach ever ! ima be a singing machine after i finish watching all these videos. lol you are awesome. im really learning a lot. keep up the good work.

  • i am a beginner singer and like when i sumtimes practice singing, my voice kinda hurts a little bit after i practice alot. is dat normal?? :\

  • Wow you have a great way of teaching- I have kust started singing and have a problem with not opening my mouth enough- any ideas apart from maybe doing exagerrated vowels? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Regards, heather in new Zealand

  • i love your vibrato it's so smooth

  • Thank you!!!

  • This video realy helped me.I have no choice but to save it in my favorites.

  • Subscribed.

  • okay so i know how to use my diaphragm and whatnot but how in the heck do you make your neck wider? i don't get what you mean by that...

  • No worries. Basically you'll want to imitate the same throat size you would have as if you were "yawning". This techniques allows for a nice full sound while the vocal folds are in their largest and most relaxed state. =)

  • No worries,

Basically you will want to imitate the same size with throat as you would if you were yawning. This techniques gives the "fullest" sound because the vocal folds are in their largest, widest and most relaxed state.

I also have a video called "Quick Tip: The Open Voice" on my channel that can further explain this.

    Thnx 4 watching! =)

  • LOL sang boy

  • I am currently in a vocal class which is going kinda disasterous for me. I enjoyed your singing with confidence video clip, because I am having the same issues because everyone expect me to sing like Aretha Franklin and I dont

  • 1:10 makes me laugh so hard XD

thanks for the videos, these are a really big help! :D

  • @YouGotSchenkd: lmfao!! That was funny.

  • Eric, I'll say it again. YOU da Man! I just tuned in today and following everything from the beginning. Even though it's hard, you are encouraging. I'm feeling good about this. I like the inflections, difficult. Great tips, too.

  • i like your voice u should go on X factor your cute too xx ;) tnx 4 your tips very usefull x

  • how the heck do you sing with your diaphragm :( i try to sing with it but i just cant..

  • Hey,

I just put out a diaphragmatic breathing video. Check it out Quick Tip 12.

    ~E~

  • Your videos are so helpful! I made a video using the "I love you so" method to head how I sounded and there was a major improvement. Thank you so much. God bless, honey!

  • my friends always said i've got a nice voice but it sounds sooooo soft :P maybe they can only hear my high notes louder than other notes

  • i emphasized a different word everythime

  • Funny...but he's right;)

  • You handle this type of thing with grace & dignity.

    Show 'em how it's done!

  • giancarloguerrero,

In honesty, I truly feel sorry for you. I'm not sure where all of this hate comes from in you, but if you continue on in this manner, inevitably, it will end in your demise. Hopefully you will change your ways, outlook and self conduct before that day happens.

I pray that you "heal" and grow,

    Erik

  • It's easy to say all of that behind a computer screen isnt it....

  • great video..i love it..thanks to this i know how to use my voice a little better and louder, this culd be a lesson for me for wen i go out and perform =]] thank you so much =]

  • I love how giancarloguerrero favorited this after dissing you. Wow. lmao.

  • @giancarlosguerrero

    Fuck this ignorant wetback

Now GTFO, im trying to listen to Eric

  • @giancarloguerrero hahahaha you are israeli lmfaooo!! that explains a lot of things...well done! you have just supported hitler!... btw erik is awesome, you are a worthless racist scum. OWNED BITCH.

  • Dude you're such an attention whore. Stop being such a racist and go back to wherever the hell you came from.

  • thank you so very much! I have been kind of down in the dumps ever since I lost a role in a musical because I couldn't sing loud enough, and now with your help I am getting louder. I actually just tried what you said and my drama teacher didn't believe it was me because she was three rooms down the hall and she could hear me!

do you have any other tips for singing louder?

    again thanks =D

  • your videos help a lot :-)......when u was singing in the beginning of the video my daughter made the same sound you did (she only two years old) lolz i should get her started

  • Thank you so much for that! LOL!! Yes, please coach the babies as well. =)

  • Your video has helped me so much. I can project better and sound 5X better. Thank you. You're one of the best vocal instructors on the net, no doubt about it!

  • Hey tim23z,

Thanks so much for that feedback!! I appreciate it!

    ~E~

  • thank you for the tips!!

    i'm gonna try the i..love..you..so.. thing. :D

  • can you realy learn how to sing?i think you have to be born with it,it is a talent.i wish i was wrong but i dont think so

  • yeah you really can!its all about building up the muscles of your vocal cords and warming up with exercises and technique!

  • i love your optimism:-) thank you

  • hehe.. yeah some ppl are def born with it..but it is VERY possible to learn how to sing...trust me, I used to be horrible before vocal training in school...honest :o)

but..it requires A LOT of hard work, repetition, and of course a good vocal coach like ur buddy Mr Dillard here

  • thanks for the answer,.well, i dont think im totally hopeless, but in elementary school my teacher told me im tone deaf, but i think its because she was very strict, she was yelling at everybody,so when it was my turn i just couldnt sing my best.but thets when i started to believe i cant sing at all.

  • sometimes i get the same way with the starting to beileve i cant sing too but all i do is push my self and say i can sing and i try and practice every day...i have to sing a solo at my church for the first time and i am very nervous about it but i have to know im doing this for god so even though i put myself down saying i cant sing i have to think positive and maybe later i will feel i can sing

  • but people when they hear me sing along usually comment- you know you are not that bad etc etc.but anyway, where i live there is no vocal trainings, only in faculties of music...and im not that ambitiuos...hahha,so i hope mr dillards lessons will help

  • 1:08 hahahaha

  • erik how can you use the same amount of air from the diaphragm without straining the abdomen? do you have an exercise for it?

  • man you are the man

  • i love you!!!!!

  • Hello Erik,

You're cool and that makes you a great teacher. Thanks.

PROBLEM I love to sing but I I have a bad habit of keeping my throat closed. It's hard to keep it open without sounding weird and also I still have problems with breathing I wish you were here to show me how to sing using my diaphragm properly can you give me any tips on both please?

  • you are amazing oh my god. this is my problem is singing loud i want to be able to sing this way very powerfully.

  • I love the emphasis your lessons have on vibrato, I sing enka and this stuff is very helpful, thank you for taking the time to put it together.

  • Erik, thanks for the tips! What I really wanted to learn is to sing in those beautiful scales you use to give words emphasis. Is that something you feel and create, or would that be written somewhere? thanks

  • Hey there Marcel,

There are many jazz scales that you can look up and use in your songs, but most of what I do and singers that "improvise" scales usually come to you more spontaneously and is definitely something that is felt and created.

Keep me posted on ur success!

    ~E~

  • thanks!!!!!!!!!

  • but how do u increase the size of ur throat? can u b a bit more specific?!?! thx!!!

  • Hey carrieamai,

Increasing the size of your throat creates the same "size" as if you were "yawning". You'll want to control this size so that you don't automatically "yawn" every time you open your throat to sing...(laugh). Implement this technique gradually and let me know if you see a difference.

    Take Care,

    ~E~

  • these video's are 10/10 eric. best ones i have come across on youtube-and there's alot! peace.

  • Hey! I really appreciate that! Thanks so much for showing love!

    ~E~

  • Haha, you sounded like a heavy metal singer when you screamed.

  • how come when i raise my volume in my voice it get husky....

  • ...interesting...

  • nah man, you're awesome, and an excellent teacher. you're helping a lot of people

  • can u sing like he can?.. if so do feel free to post vocal lessons on youtube

  • no. i never say that i can say as good as he did

my point is that TO ME this video didnt help much..

that 'rubbish' wasnt describing him but the video..

  • Honestly, when we sing loud, we're not opening the throat bigger. We increase velocity. I don't think you were singing louder but you were only making the sound darker and stronger. But you have a great voice though!

  • This is so neat. I'm not a singer. The voice angle did not bless me with such a gift, but I'm a teacher by trade and nature. I know when I see a good training, teaching tool, and this is one. My daughter is a singer, and studing music in college. She is going to love these lesson as extra, out side of college work, learning tools. Good luck young man.

  • Hi!'ve been singing since childhood..I studied vocal very seriously but now I don't know what to do..I can't sing low notes loud..but i hav to..when i'm trying to sing louder it's hurting..:(:(:( help me ERIK!!!please write me..

  • how do u increase your throat size? do u just push it out?

  • haha.. that was my problem too.

  • Hi i have a question..

i have a problem with breathing so when you sing do you kind of get the air through the nose

  • no, you'll pass out eventually if you keep breathing through your nose

  • i hope this helps me sing really loud cause at the theatre there are no mics at all and they have instruments playing so i must sing loud will the help me better cause i tried it and i never did b4 and it seems to work

  • Your a great vocal teacher you should work at a school to teach kids that. It would keep us of the street because i like singing but im so shy about it incase im rubbish.

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone have any singing lesson videos that includes singing something like Serj Tankian?

  • are you a pro coach

  • you are the greates teacher in youtube really!!! im from mexico

  • You are an angel..that's all I can say! I feel more confident in trying to sing louder with the demonstarion of your technique!

  • Thank you so much!!! I'm so glad the videos are helping you. That means alot!

    ~E~

  • omg omg omg omg I Love the energy of my Professor, you know I am pretty excited, and I want, as all you do, become sucessfull with the stuff I am doing.

    I will tell you later!!!!

    Cheers!!

  • great. This is my first time. I got one point. Please advice me. How to control the voice when step on the peak of sound? Thank you.

  • Hey jabestin,

Thanks for watching. I am indeed a professional. The movements you saw are "theatrics" that can go with a performance. Nothing is wrong with "movement" while singing. The "I love you" so parts show how to combine proper singing technique along with theatrics.

You make excellent observations! =) But, I don't want anyone being mistaken into thinking that singing has to be a "stand-still" activity. Strain and passion are two different things.

    Thanks again so much,

    ~E~

  • Jabestin, you are a hater. A lot of people get into their music by moving and helps it helps them sing. NO one who is really getting into their music has their head and body completely still.

  • You are 100% right. However, if you're being given a lesson, it helps to teach the right way to do things. Which is why I addressed it. The guy who made the video obviously understood where I was coming from so there should be no reason for everyone to be upset at me about stating an observation. And I don't hate on anybody. I merely state what I see. I never said he was a terrible singer, I just said that he looks like he's straining, and he replied that it's to show the passion. Read the facts

  • I'm not a hater. I agreed with his logic. I agree with what you're saying. I'm just saying, if you're gonna TEACH something, teach it the way it should be done. Only people who already know how to sing the right way can move around freely without damaging their voice. Cuz they already know how to control their flow. So I understand why he's moving around and stuff. Makes sense. He's feeling the music. Just that a teacher should teach as if the student doesn't know these things.

  • 1:11 iss farkkingg halerrious.... thanxx soo muchh=D ill post a vid of me singing and show you how much thiss has helped meee.. i am soo greatfull xoxoxoxoxo
