The truth is, there are certain countries that are overpopulated and certain ones that aren't, that's just a fact of life. The ones that are need to exercise restraint and not act like it's alright to have more children when there are no jobs for them, nowhere for them to live once they're grown, and so on and so forth. The days of needing to have numerous children to tend to the farm are long over and people need to realize that. Nobody needs 5 or more kids, especially in this economy.

I come from a culture where having a lot of children is normal (my grandfather has 22 kids) so I am aware of that. In my culture it is said that children is a poor man's wealth so they have as many children as possible hoping that one of them will make it big and take them out of poverty. In reality it usually keeps them there because they are unable to provide basic things such as education and food.

judging from reading my geneologies in the US it was the same way up to my Grandmother's generation just after the turn of the Century, I am astounded how many children were born to be lost to disease and war, but even today there remains a hope that at least one of your children will care for their elderly parents, that is not so much in societies where the people have nationalized health and eldercare
