1) To support the poppy farming and opium production, so the CIA (Crooks In Action) can fund covert operations around the world.
2) To run oil and natural gas pipelines from the Caspian Sea and the other *stan countries into the Arabian Sea.
3) To have another front to launch an attack on Iran.
