the x1 didnt have an all moving tailplain he maintained control using the trim tabs so dont be hating on old chuck, hes a hell of good pilot. God bless America.

It is a known fact that Britain was 'instructed' to give Bell their secrets to stability when transonic = The All moving tailplane, & 'instructed' to keep grounded their supersonic test aircraft 'Miles M.52', under the 'excuse' of budget cuts. Basically, the US forced the Brits to halt their sound barrier experiments in 1946, so that they could claim the glory, as 'payment' towards helping them in the war effort. The Miles M-52 & X-1 are very similar in design.

ive seen this aircraft at national air and space museum, its not even 100 % sure that it was the first to break sound barrier, but its the first documented soundbarrir break. People say the F86 maybee did it first on a testflight

Chuck was actually one of the first to score a victory over the Me262 (first jet fighter) in WW2 flying a (much slower) p-51.

We will never "do light", because it's theoretically impossible for matter to reach the speed of light. Theoretically we could reach 0.9999% of the speed of light, but there is no way load a spaceship with so much energy that it can be done.

When WW2 broke out UK was still paying for US involvement in WW1. Then it took UK till 2006 to pay off WW2.For most of 20th c. US often used economic threats and false promises to force our loyal allies to give us all their hi-tech, Merlins, jets, nuclear, rocketry, aerodynamics, radar, computers, cavity wave magnetron, the list is endless. We also forced them to give up air and naval bases, and land around the world. We became great with UK and German technology and UK money. We owe big time!!!

Denis Bancroft invented the all-flying tail for the Miles M52. We realised that UK was just weeks away from going supersonic. Uk was bankrupt, and it had to pay us back for WW2 until Dec 2006, so our govt used this to force UK govt to close M52 project which was crated up and shipped to Bell, who could not yet deal with control/buffeting. 2 years later the Bell X1 broke the sound barrier. Miles was shut down. No disrespect to Bell/ Chuck Yeager, but folks should know the FULL story

I only wish that Wolfe would have been more honest about Slick Goodlin. He portrays him as a money grubber demanding $150,000 for a single flight, when in fact he wanted to extend his existing contract at Bell for that amount. Goodlin flew 26 missions before the glory went to Yeager who was standing, in essence, on Goodlin's shoulders. Slick deserved a whole lot better than he got.
