The X1 only "won out" because the british government decided that post war spending on their development was wastefull and duely handed over designs and information, the X1 design is actually based on the british design
nazi technology goes a long way...., 2 years after world war 2 and taking all german sientists and equipment and prototypes back to america they have done well.. but i bet teh germans them selves would have been much further ahead say atleast 5-10 years
@manutd233 well then grow older and meet some (american) people that actually live somewhere else. I agree that americans are held stupid by the gouvernment and media. but believe me, there not all the same. those (americans) able to travel around and/or meet other cultures and countries know exactly what I mean! they truly got their eyes open!!! (most)
@chattmataz u saying we are stupid is laughable to me becasue u r listening to what the MEDIA tells YOU about my country. u guys could never achieve what we have technologically,
@BeLikeWater1000 I guess you didn´t understand what I wrote. Otherwise your reply would have been an other. And unfortuantelly you don´t know where I´m from, buddy ;) I´m american my self. But I guess I have a more realistic view of "my country". If you talk about america and technology in one sentence, you probably mean technology they bought, stole or saved from others. except for microchips and operating systems.
the x1 didnt have an all moving tailplain he maintained control using the trim tabs so dont be hating on old chuck, hes a hell of good pilot. God bless America.
It is a known fact that Britain was 'instructed' to give Bell their secrets to stability when transonic = The All moving tailplane, & 'instructed' to keep grounded their supersonic test aircraft 'Miles M.52', under the 'excuse' of budget cuts. Basically, the US forced the Brits to halt their sound barrier experiments in 1946, so that they could claim the glory, as 'payment' towards helping them in the war effort. The Miles M-52 & X-1 are very similar in design.
@xoio they also offered us some good information and then after we gave them the information for this aeroplane they said " o we cant give this information its top secret"
i know this i kinda irrelevant, but in the begining when the narrator says that "chuck yeager hopped aboard the X-1" it is kinda untruehe broke 2 of his ribs earlier and couldnt hop
ive seen this aircraft at national air and space museum, its not even 100 % sure that it was the first to break sound barrier, but its the first documented soundbarrir break. People say the F86 maybee did it first on a testflight
We will never "do light", because it's theoretically impossible for matter to reach the speed of light. Theoretically we could reach 0.9999% of the speed of light, but there is no way load a spaceship with so much energy that it can be done.
When WW2 broke out UK was still paying for US involvement in WW1. Then it took UK till 2006 to pay off WW2.For most of 20th c. US often used economic threats and false promises to force our loyal allies to give us all their hi-tech, Merlins, jets, nuclear, rocketry, aerodynamics, radar, computers, cavity wave magnetron, the list is endless. We also forced them to give up air and naval bases, and land around the world. We became great with UK and German technology and UK money. We owe big time!!!
Denis Bancroft invented the all-flying tail for the Miles M52. We realised that UK was just weeks away from going supersonic. Uk was bankrupt, and it had to pay us back for WW2 until Dec 2006, so our govt used this to force UK govt to close M52 project which was crated up and shipped to Bell, who could not yet deal with control/buffeting. 2 years later the Bell X1 broke the sound barrier. Miles was shut down. No disrespect to Bell/ Chuck Yeager, but folks should know the FULL story
I only wish that Wolfe would have been more honest about Slick Goodlin. He portrays him as a money grubber demanding $150,000 for a single flight, when in fact he wanted to extend his existing contract at Bell for that amount. Goodlin flew 26 missions before the glory went to Yeager who was standing, in essence, on Goodlin's shoulders. Slick deserved a whole lot better than he got.
No the British gave them the research in the hope the USA would do the same which they did'nt.And if they both had the same research and the Brits were ahead of the game,,,,why didnt they go ahead and break the sound barrier??They had almost 2years scince they GAVE the reserch away anyway.
Why would the USA threaten their main ally in a time of unprecedented war-circa May-June 1944???It was a sly move by the States alright don't get me wrong but the Miles Aircraft Company\British Government were idiotic to give away Top Secret information in the hope of something in return."heres my lunch money now can I have yours please"!!!
U.S. efforts progressed apace soon after Britain had disclosed all its research and designs to the U.S. government, on the promise that U.S. information would be shared the other way.The U.S. failed to disclose any information in return, stating the Pentagon had deemed the project Top Secret. They took the technological information provided by the British and began work on the Bell XS-1.
@maddogmcglinchey The X1 only "won out" because the british government decided that post war spending on their development was wastefull and duely handed over designs and information, the X1 design is actually based on the british design ...thanks for that
All Nazi technology !! Everything the USA has today came from the Nazi's stolen scientist after WW2.

The US also forced the cancellation of the TSR.2 in the 60's because it was superior to their F-111

@QuickProfits it's been proven in theory as possible, worked out mathmatically. now the technology has to catch up to theory.
