@artregeous New results to be presented this week at a conference in India all but Eliminate the mid-range where the Higgs - if it exists - might be found. @wkrepelin fibonacci didn't come up with the fibonacci number sequence. it was much older occult knowledge going back as far as the early neolithic age. its based on intersecting circles within circles where the numbers are the geometric shapes added together drawn by a compass like a interference pattern of waves. you find a similar pattern in a lotus flower and snakes. galactic currents also produce these geometric structures as well as intersecting circles but in a progression of time.
@coldarc Yeah, that's exactly the kind of bullshit I'm talking about. Can you follow me around and say other profoundly stupid things to help illustrate my many other arguments? Would you be available for that?
@wkrepelin yeah. i rather live in a universe based on geometry that reflect what we can observe bullshit or not than live in a universe based on ad-hoc inventions of particles to save a model full of holes where everything is a accident and a spongy ball undetectable small makes up all the interaction of gravity as the one and only mechanism shaping the universe from a big energetic explosion called the Big Bang.

@opaldragon75 As for you amazing remark regarding the LHC creating new things in order for it to work, new technology etc etc etc...nearly every machine since the sharp stick was made, has done this.As you may well know, every war has created an advance in technological understanding and its amazing how advances in better killing can have positive benefits and aid in better living. Now rather than repeat what they tell you,try and do some work for yourself, you know, question it and rearrange it
@opaldragon75 I see you passed being a memory stick, sorry idiot with flying colours, keep with Time being a dimension and you should do very well. How can blind morons continue to think that gravity isnt a dimension when it controls every aspect of your reality, even time, which may i add is nothing only a particle interaction and nothing else. And to hide this simple fact even more, you create quantum physics theory and field/string and all the other rubbish to justify it. I see no creativity here
Behold, i give you the guy who had us spend billions on a theory of utter rubbish. He may be very bright, but this doesn't justify everyone jumping on the band wagon in search of some magic field that doesn't exist. Turn energy into a dimension and see what you get. Energy is a dimension but its far too hard for humanity to understand or even grasp at the moment. Its all in front of your faces and you cant see it. Never mind, ok im off to see my m8 at the other side of the universe. see ya.
@SASNIGHTCRAWLER You claim to grasp and understand that which is "far too hard for humanity to understand or even grasp..", yet instead of using you remarkable brilliance to contribute to anything but yourself, you spend your time talking shit online and making crackpot statements you can't back up.
@kvakkerr hay, i am humanity, are you?whats crackpot about creating a theory about a few known effects that other dont understand, they only see or observe the reaction, they dont know how it comes to be or what it is, use your brain and visualise the effect and then expand on it..thats called creativity, artists have it, its a shame scientists dont, they solve the math of the picture the artist can see.can you explain what matter is, what gravity is, and most of all, do you know what energy is?
@SASNIGHTCRAWLER energy is mass - mass is energy. Gravity is probably a wave created by the distortion of space-time by mass. It may well be relatively weak because it is "felt" by the existence of a large-mass object in a nearby dimension. Your arrogant responses adds nothing to any discussion- instead it masks any value in your arguments The main point is that people who REALLY know about these things don't verbally abuse each other - unlike us armchair theorists and occasional Trolls
@mebiggles1 probably a wave? a wave of what, some magic energy? you dont know what your talking about m8,i would stay pirched on your armchair if i were you lol REALLY know what they are talking about? they dont know anything, they can observe its interactions and conclude there are maybe other things going on, so look for them, in order to find out how a thing works, but they dont know how anything works yet, Tell me, what is a photon or energy and why does it travel at the speed of light(c)
@megalops07 stop being a dick, my teacher is dead i think. Ask your teacher why light travels or interacts at 186k miles per second, and ask him/her what energy is. Then come back to me.
@mebiggles1 Gravity is a destortion of space time by mass? why not think about this, gravity is part and parcel of a particle of matter, it increases as the particle increases its velocity, which in other words is an effect of particle mass, so gravity should be the particles attraction to others by the form of some electrostatic or magnetic effect, the reason its weak is because single particles make the gravity...people dont know anything, they assume, they are hoping to find a graviton lol
@mebiggles1 i will tell you not even Einstein REALLY KNOWS ANYTHING, he observed the interactions and concluded on the effect they created...yet he doesnt know what gravity is, matter is or how it is created or what energy or light is, and why it travels at 186k miles per second,,,all he knows is that its there, and he looked at what it was doing..im taking all that and trying to work out what it is, because i know what it does ffs...
@SASNIGHTCRAWLER To assume that scientists are in any way less creative in their thinking than artists is extremely arrogant and demonstrates you don't know any scientists personally- or know too few. What a shame. Scientist break many more creativity boundaries than artists. While some are certainly stuck in their old ways many are not. Thinking "outside the box" is a scientific 'invention', like it or not. Artists, like scientists, stretch boundaries by building upon existing knowledge
@kvakkerr i ill tell you, you know nothing, no one does, they only know what it can do...so think past your cup of tea and get your brain working rather than rely on others to think of it which could take, oh lets say another 1000 yrs if they all have the same attitude you do, Creativity is what makes humanity fantastic and different from the others, Anyone can learn a script, its what you do after you learn it that matters, how you can break it down and evolve it into something new.
This is where UK people can feel proud of what the education system used to be. I hope there are still at least some vestiges of it left. Most of what the modern UK school churns out is not very promising, putting it mildly.
Why don't physicists research Mass from the speed of light's point of view? Instead they research Mass with the idea that Mass with in sub-light is the Norm. of the universe.Light is the constant field by which all Mass is gauged in terms of it's Speed/spin/Inertia, so it seems logical that Mass from how it acts looks & interacts from the perspective of light or how Mass looks to something moving at the speed of light would answer somethings about the nature of Mass....
@gadgetable64 I think it boils down to actually accelerating soemthing with mass to the speed of light requires infinite energy and it reaches infinite mass no? when the LHC collides particles at nearly the speed of light, which is what i think you're saying here they are approximately 7000 times their initial mass at rest. I think this implys that as they accelerate their interaction or drag on the higgs increases causing a greater mass.
According to the standard atomic model, without the graviton, one the particles, or the whole of them so constructing the the atom, can be thought of as the cause of gravitation. For mass to have gravity below the inverse of the speed of light, according to Newton all it takes is an absence of mass, and therefore an absence of a number of atoms composing mass, which seems to be the most logical idea.
What keeps mass below the speed of light is the weakness of gravitation. A particle responsible for keeping mass below the speed of light (Higgs Boson) is also the cause of weak gravitation; if such particle indeed exists...
I find it interesting, mdma4life, that you can blame the liberal media for labeling the term 'the God particle.' Seems rather convuluted to me. It's amazing to me the remarkable number of people that put their faith in the most recent scientific 'discovery' or 'theory' which will simply be modified and/or dispelled in the next 10 years.
The LHC is presented to the world as the mechanism for discovering the Higgs boson, the particle responsible for giving matter its mass, but that is only a small easily digestible part of what the LHC can discover. If the LHC can validate supersymmetry, that would be a massive discovery.
I did a little Blender model of a Uni building in Edinburgh recently....if you look carefully there's a brilliant portrait of Peter Higgs in the background...search "Peter Higgs Portrait" and you'll get some better views, it's a cool picture.
This guy is really smart =) but I really hate 1 thing look at the number of visitors in intresting subjects of particle fisics black holes gravity elecromagnestism strong and the weak nuclear forces... etc... look at the number of visitors there and where it sas Large hadron collider black hole its at least triple if its from relativelly same time (posted) and music is in possibly millions =/ hate that in our society that is the reason we arent time traveling much into the future today =(.
Brilliant and humble, a wonderfull combination. His blunt admission that he could be wrong reminds me of Feynman's attitude to discovery => watch?v=lytxafTXg6c
This guy is brilliant. Shame he doesn`t get the recognition like some other people do. If a guy like Peter Higgs was an Americans he would be all over channels like CNN and be world famous even to the ordinary public. While CNN claims to be international it`s as much international as the Freaking KGB was Japanese. Ipod, Ipad, Tiger Woods, Ipad, Obama, Obama, Ipad, Space shuttle, Ipad, American Wind energy, Ipad, Internet speed in America, Ipad, Ipad, International news channel my freaking ass.
@jmc8197 well from 1964 until now, no other field theorist has come with a more compelling theory, or compelling enough to build a billion dollars experiment to prove or disprove it. Maybe the young men players are too busy masturbating with string theory, so Higgs still is relevant :). 2
If anyone is interested, Chp.9 of Brian Greene's "The fabric of the cosmos" does a wonderful job of describing the Higg's field and Higg's boson in a more technical form that anyone can understand. Reading that chapter alone will help in understanding why the existance of the Higg's field makes particles physics much easier to understand.
The mathematics dealing with this level of theoretical construction is difficult. Just when I thought I had a good framework of Quantum Mechanics(3 graduate semesters) I thought I could take Quantum Field Theory(QFT) and was put in my place rather quickly.
One thing has become apparent. As you progress to smaller and smaller scales thing get more and more abstract to comprehand and the mathematics becomes more advanced and abstract.
To understand the Higgs mass and the Higgs Field you must establish an initial inertial frame of reference: a still non-moving point of mass observation where Life started from. You cannot logically ask where mass came from because mass had not moved yet. You can only ask why it moved and the answer is it moved going into oscillation due to it's own gravity. There are two separate inertial frames of reference: the weak force where mass is found and the strong force where mass made space is found

Nazi half brained Schitzo Higgs isn't intelligent enough to read a Right Hemisphere Syn(SINE)aesthesis Bosse Thesaurus Code Book; i.e; 2 Kings 18:18, Sennacherib = Dust, and Hezekiah = Return's, and that's only AFTER you're DEAD and Burried, because ONLY Nature can make Neutrinos with the Earth's Lay Line Grid and the Van Allen, man never shall, and that's a fact!
Gawd - there's some bosos trying to understand this...If you can't take it in, don't take the p**s out of it, you're just showing how ignorant you are!
The only reason why CERN stuck their LHC directly into the Earth's Lay Line Grid, is to distort Neutrinos on a magnetical frequency, and if Science really understood Partical Masses, they'ed have their Own 'Live Coal' Magentic Pineal Gland and have their Own Devil of a Conscience, instead of stealing technology from Syn(SINE)aesthesis children and their Own Vacume packed Diamond Pineal Glands from a Natural Birth, unlike all CERN Scientist's that were all birthed by C-Section with half a brain!

Except instead of Boson, they probably named it like waaki wanga bonk bonk wayayayay!!.. stupid aliens.

Only crazy people can try to create particles with the rest mass more then 1000 masses of nucleon. Hundreds types of particles can be created in the region 1000-7000 aum. Most of them will decay, but some will grow, capturing the ordinary matter. Arrant big-bangers want to touch the particle of God, but thus, they lead us into the magnetic trap of Devil. Magnetic trap is 10^36 times stronger than black hole. Open the criminal cases against global terrorists. Stop Tevatron and close the LHC.
LOL@ anyone who believes the LHC is destructive beyond a proton. I've done the research. I've done my homework. And all I could find was knowledge and anticipation!
Those who believe that the LHC is a massive "bomb", we shall call you Y2K'ists.
I don't know what to say. I'm quite concearned about this thing making black holes too. Not only that, fusion technology is primarily about turning Hydrogen into Helium and the mass given off is fuel. But then that would give us an atmosphere full of helium.
CERN says is safe cause nature does the same with the moon and it is not a black hole. BUT MILLIONS OF MOONS ARE BECOMING BLACK HOLES. A MOON CONVERTED INTO A BLACK HOLE PRODUCES STABLE BACKGROUND RADIATION EXACTLY AT 2.7K, that swamps the galaxy.Since the big bang is not cosmic SINCE FAR AWAY GALAXIES dont leave shadows on it so it is produded in this galaxy only MOONS made into black holes produce by gravitational lensing 2.7k radiation as cern will do with earth in Nov. FRED HOYLE said it.
The Standard Model of particle physics is the most quantitatively precise theory in all of science. All its predictions have been fully verified at CERN and Fermilab to incredible accuracy. The W and Z bosons, were created at CERN in the 80s with the exact masses predicted by the Higgs mechanism. Finding the Higgs is the final piece of the puzzle and requires the higher energies now only possible at the LHC. Much new physics is expected too that will go beyond the Standard Model.
Those people talking about why this or that quantum or classical theory is pure hybris/work of the devil/against god's will do in fact thankfully enjoy the outcome of these very theories, they listen to CDs, use navigation systems, play games on their playstations, drive cars with LED lamps, and write self-contradicting nonsense on youtube with their tunnel effect using computers.

atlas its worst, its a scam, einstein defined mass under the equivalence principle between gravity and acceleration as whirls of space-time, like hurricane ike that attract the faster they turn, so a black hole regardless of size attracts a lot as it turns at c-speed, wilczek found the masses of each quark, the standard model closed, never a particle out of the quark model hs been found but they need funding for bigger machines invented this another mathetmical entelechias to scam 13 billion $,

physicists today play the role of the popes talking latin so people dont know the bible is just a book, their latin is math so you dont know this is a scam. Nambu found that top quarks-antiquarks have the strongest atractive force called strong force. They are the higgs, Higgs reinvented the top quark already discovered to sell an accelerator to reagan as god particle. It didnt work but with the french grandeur worked. They will just make a mass-bomb M=e/c2 as quarks suck in our weak matter.

mente1964. The relgious analogy is very apt. We are not dealing with true scientists with these seekers after the Higgs Boson. What true scientist, as did Brian Cox and his colleagues, pluck out of the air a 90+% "probability" of discovering a TOTALLY theoretically particle? These HiggsBosonists are a quasireligious pseudo-scientific cult to whom we have unwittingly provided the means to build a machine that could conceivably annihilate the planet.
You guys who write about scientists as popes are just dumbasses who understand neither the mathematics nor the theories. As for the 90+ probability, you should consider that this is not the first time a particle was predicted, and then found-- but you'd have to know something before spouting off your ignorant SHIT about popes and armageddon machines, what retards of speculative suspicion, interpreting things based on NOTHING, lost, ignorant, deluded, misguided, fucking stupid-- and annoying.
I have some questions regarding the "w" and "z" bosons - alleged "mediators" of the "weak nuclear force". Where do these particles live? Inside all atoms? Inside all radioactive atoms? Inside some radioactive atoms? Inside no atoms? Do they pervade all space? Where are they exactly?
For all the doubt about Micro Black Holes and CERN saying they are not going to produce LHC MBHs google on these please...
Physicists Hoping To Create Tiny Black Holes At CERN
Lab fireball 'may be black hole'
These were produced unexpectedly at much lower power levels than the LHC can produce.
These experts depend heavily on Hawking's evaporation theory. Of course they never mention evaporation has never been proven as real and remains only theory.
If space has some residual energy itself, i.e. dark energy, perhaps there is some relation between this and the Higgs field? Perhaps they're identical?
If you've ever seen the sequel to 2001... 2010. Dave Bowman's "spirit" answers the question "what's going to happen?" with a rather cryptic, "Something Wonderful."
No one knows for sure... That's the "why" of LHC.
Man is within reach of understanding the things the universe is made of, and strange and wonderful things could happen.
Star-drive... maybe.
Remember later, the day you posted here, and the day the universe changed, and the people who made it happen.
I used to call this field, which gives rise to pair instability and the so called Higgs field, the "Virtual Field" for the simple reason that, as has been stated elsewhere, gravitational fields generate pairs of virtual particles that almost immediately self anihilate each other. At a black hole, they lead to its "fuzziness". Hmm.. that almost makes sense :P
Peter Higgs is a STAUNCH Athiest, and he's REALLY pissed that the media reinvented the name of the particle he has spent his life investigating as the 'GOD' particle.
Its fucking stupid what the media does, and how such a remarkably high number of people follow and believe what the media tells them.
the coinage of the God particle is hardly the doing of the "media." the media is so stupid they couldn't tell a particle from a chicken, let alone coming up with the well-placed implications of the term God. And it's a bit unwarranted that Higgs is "really" pissed according to you. The term is nothing more than a metaphor.
i agree... infact it`s doing him a huge service.. HIS name has now become synonymous with the god particle... MOST particle`s never get much attention from the media.. Who in the media talks about the W and Z particle(bosons)??? No this will bring his name in the history books for shure...
It stemed from Dr Lederman the American renowned physisist when he said if we find "the godam particle" the press hopped on and called it the "God" particle
If we are lucky CERN will see something end of 2008. If positive, the results should be definitely "out" during 2009 and Higgs will get the Nobel Price in 2009 or 2010.
If u dont find the Higgs with the LHC the chance that it exists is quite small.
Very interesting to hear this explained by the man that the particle was named for! Thank you for uploading this video. I'm not sure what would be more exciting, if he were proven wrong, or right? We'll know before long!

SASNIGHTCRAWLER 1 year ago
@SASNIGHTCRAWLER energy is mass - mass is energy. Gravity is probably a wave created by the distortion of space-time by mass. It may well be relatively weak because it is "felt" by the existence of a large-mass object in a nearby dimension. Your arrogant responses adds nothing to any discussion- instead it masks any value in your arguments The main point is that people who REALLY know about these things don't verbally abuse each other - unlike us armchair theorists and occasional Trolls
mebiggles1 1 year ago
@mebiggles1 probably a wave? a wave of what, some magic energy? you dont know what your talking about m8,i would stay pirched on your armchair if i were you lol REALLY know what they are talking about? they dont know anything, they can observe its interactions and conclude there are maybe other things going on, so look for them, in order to find out how a thing works, but they dont know how anything works yet, Tell me, what is a photon or energy and why does it travel at the speed of light(c)

SASNIGHTCRAWLER 1 year ago

Mekiwyn 1 year ago
According to the standard atomic model, without the graviton, one the particles, or the whole of them so constructing the the atom, can be thought of as the cause of gravitation. For mass to have gravity below the inverse of the speed of light, according to Newton all it takes is an absence of mass, and therefore an absence of a number of atoms composing mass, which seems to be the most logical idea.
Juefawn 1 year ago
What keeps mass below the speed of light is the weakness of gravitation. A particle responsible for keeping mass below the speed of light (Higgs Boson) is also the cause of weak gravitation; if such particle indeed exists...

1czelaya 2 years ago 3
To understand the Higgs mass and the Higgs Field you must establish an initial inertial frame of reference: a still non-moving point of mass observation where Life started from. You cannot logically ask where mass came from because mass had not moved yet. You can only ask why it moved and the answer is it moved going into oscillation due to it's own gravity. There are two separate inertial frames of reference: the weak force where mass is found and the strong force where mass made space is found

Much new physics is expected too that will go beyond the Standard Model.

Its fucking stupid what the media does, and how such a remarkably high number of people follow and believe what the media tells them.
mdma4life 3 years ago 15
the coinage of the God particle is hardly the doing of the "media." the media is so stupid they couldn't tell a particle from a chicken, let alone coming up with the well-placed implications of the term God. And it's a bit unwarranted that Higgs is "really" pissed according to you. The term is nothing more than a metaphor.
